RE: SharePoint Designer 2010 with Office 2010

2011-09-11 Thread Trent Allday
Hi Paul,

Thanks for your post. Yes, downloading a copy works but this is really not
ideal. I want to be able to open a document from SharePoint, make changes and
save directly back into SharePoint. I also want to use co-authoring
functionality.

I also tried unchecking the box in LAN settings but it seemed to have no effect.

Trent,

Before you go making registry changes do you want to try to things for me?

1.Use Send To --> Download a copy and open the document locally. Does it
open? If so, the problem is with IE, not Office.

2.From IE, go to Tools-->Internet Options-->Connections-->LAN Settings and
uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings".

I’m guessing this will fix your problem.

Paul

Forefront 2010 TMG

2011-06-08 Thread Trent Allday
Hi,

Anyone know why TMG is blocking connections after a period of time. If I reboot
the TMG service all works correctly from my external ip address for a period,
after some time the site no longer responds for that IP address. Looking at the
logs in TMG for this IP address returns the following error:

of the peers sent an RST packet. Source: External (207.46.199.194:15797)

Hi Trent,

I ran into this issue a while back also - and couldn't find an easy
solution. In the end I re-worked my code to use the SharePoint API and get
the file as a SPFile instead (as it was always going to be stored in the
same site collection as the web part that was running the code). It seemed
to work in our scenario, not sure if it's applicable to yours but maybe
worth considering.

Interested to know if anyone has solved it?

Cheers,

Hi Trent,

Just playing with anonymous access now for our public sites. I could be
wrong but.I believe that if you're trying to allow access to content on a
site requiring authentication then you will still need to allow anonymous
access "Lists and Libraries" for the site collection. .which probably means
having to do it at the web app level first.

I have the following code to download images stored in a sharepoint document

Protected Function downloadImage(ByVal imageUrl As String)

Dim filename As String = String.Empty

Try

Dim fileReader As New WebClient()

filename = imageUrl.Substring(imageUrl.LastIndexOf("/") + 1)

Return fileReader.DownloadData(imageUrl)

Catch ex As Exception

HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(ex.Message +""+

Return Nothing

End Try

End Function

Used like this:

The creditials are public variables and are 100% correct. I have other web
apps on this server using the same code (_layouts folder) and works without
a problem. The impersonating user is a site collection admin. If I go to the
image url I am asked to authenticate as expected, if I pass in the
credentials I am using in the code then the image displayed.

I thought maybe it was an iis config issue but I have compared web.configs

to be missing anything.

Can anybody shed some light on this.

Subject: Blogs - Anonymous

Hi Guys,

Bit of weird one. I am trying to setup a public Blog site using out of the box
sharepoint site template. I have got it working 100% on my development
environment (very easily) but the issue is happening on the live environment.

The issue is that anonymous access doesn't seem to be working correctly. I
currently have the entire site working in anonymous access mode and all is
working correctly until I go to look at some blog items. I can hit the blog
home page i.e. /blogs/default.aspx (without login prompt) however I soon as I
click on a heading or category I am prompted for user login.

I have setup the site to inherit permissions and have also tried explicitly
setting the permissions on all lists within /blogs site for anonymous access
yet it still doesn't work. The blog is within the standard masterpage so there
isn't anything on the site that could be causing login prompt.

Has anybody heard of this issue before or is there a MS patch?

Thanks,

Trent

Thanks,

Trent

Data Fetch Error

2009-07-15 Thread Trent Allday
Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone has seen this before...

When you go into this particular sharepoint (MOSS) site and you click any drop
down menu (ie. site settings, list settings, actions etc) you are presented with
the following message.
[cid:image001.jpg@01CA0573.7A446100]

Note that this only occurs in windows IE, not error in FF.

I have googled but there isn't much there.

Just wondering if there are any Excel Service gurus out there that might be
able to help me and my client. We are having trouble getting excel services to
refresh the data onload when connecting to a sharepoint list. Does anybody know
if this is even possible. I have selected the option to refresh data onload
when the connection datasource but it doesn't actually refresh. Even forcing a
refresh through the webpart doesn't accutally refresh.

My client has some fantastic pivot tables working but its displaying out of

Has anybody got this to work before? Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated. Even if I can get a confirmation that it cant be done.

List Attachments

2009-03-17 Thread Trent Allday
Hi Guys,

Just wondering if this is known problem and if there is a workaround:

Sharepoint attachments with server side validation. If a user is to attach a
document when completing a form and accidently misses a required filed, the
page will validate using server side (post back). When the user is brought back
to the form the attachment is gone. The issue we are having is that users are
oblivious that the attachment has not saved. The document should be uploaded
during postback validation.
Is there any way around this?

Regards,

Trent

Outlook Sync Lists

2009-03-03 Thread Trent Allday
Hi Guys,

I am having a problem syncing with SharePoint lists using Outlook. If I setup a
basic contact list (or any list) and connect to Outlook the information comes
across correctly until I do a send & receive to check for updates. When I do a
send receive I am presented with the following error message:

Task 'Sharepoint' reported error (0x80070005) : 'You do not have permission to
view this SharePoint List ({List Name}). Contact the SharePoint site
administrator. HTTP 302.'

The login used is a site collection admin, so permissions should not be an
issue.
Has anybody experienced this before or have a resolution?

There's no datasheet I've found that compares all of them. Possibly because
they're all so new, with more hitting the market all the time.

Without question, the most comprehensive solution I've seen to date is DocAve
but at those prices it would want to be. Simply too expensive for your
small-medium market.

I've done WebEx demos on all of them (with the exception of Backup Exec agent
which we currently have running). I've never seen DPM in action but it's the
only tool MS mention in their DR white paper. Please to hear it rates well. I
may have to check it out next. :)

But nothing, absolutely nothing, I have seen so far is what I would consider a
compete DR solution. Almost every developer I've ever questioned during a demo
has been blissfully unaware that a file structure even exists, let alone that
it might require backing-up. Then again I could be hoping to much to expect
that I can ever just click the big red button and see everything magically
restored.

The only benefit of any of these tools then is that they allow granular
recovery. Some, like Quest, allow you to do this from existing stsadm back-ups,
you can even search across multiple backups. This for me is a HUGE plus. Pros
and cons everywhere.

I'm doing a demo of Quest Recovery Manager for SharePoint next week. As well as
a search facility it also claims to restore alerts, permissions, metadata and
custom views. You can even search across archived and live recycle bins for
individual documents. Very cool. There's a Flash demo here -
http://www.quest.com/recovery_manager_for_sharepoint/product-demo/chap00.htm -
and more info here -
http://wwwquest.com/recovery-manager-for-sharepoint/<http://www.quest.com/recovery-manager-for-sharepoint/>.

One other solution I forgot to mention is Idera Point Backup. It can't do full
farm backup/recovery but it has this terrific self-service feature that a
web-part interface for users (with permission) to restore their own documents
from backups. It also allows configuring multiple farms and deploying from one
to another through the UI. Still in its infancy but definitely one to watch.

I've also attached a DocAve vs Backup Exec datasheet, worthless as it might be.

What REALLY pees me off about the Backup Exec agent (if you'll allow me the
rant) is that, despite its claims to support MOSS 2007, the documentation only
refers to Portal Server 2003! Their forum provides an ever-growing list of
seriously peed-off users with more questions than answers. And their tech
support is non-existent.

Hi Trent,

Yes it is completely possible to restore to a new "temporary" web application
to retrieve the items you wish to get back.

More information about how to restore can be found at :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262087.aspx

Essentially, you create a new web allocation and restore the backup into there.

Of course this is depends on if your backup is done via Staadm or though
SharePoint, if its a SQL backup then you should be able to create a web
application, delete the database it creates and restore it as the same name.

It really comes down to what backup solution did you use.

HI Guys,

I have a custom web part which accesses list data within sharepoint. The
webpart has the ability to add/delete and modify list items. The problem is
someone has deleted many items and its urgent that we get them back. Because
the list items were deleted through code the items don't go to recycle bin.

We have a backup of the sharepoint environment & sql server content database.

My Question:
Is it possible to restore the backup of the sharepoint environment to another
(new) web application so we can access the list items? We don't want to restore
over the existing environment as too much other information has been put in
since that items were deleted.

RE: SP Designer

2009-01-22 Thread Trent Allday
I should note that the whole web application is playing up not just one site.

The web app was created the way I always create them through central admin.

Regards,

Trent.

How did you create the site?

I had this problem once but cannot for the life of me remember what I did. I
know had something to do SPD evilness though.

Hi,

I am having a great deal of trouble with sharepoint designer and a new site
that has recently been created on our server.

Whenever I try to open a page I get the following message:

[cid:image001.jpg@01C97D5C.C8885190]

I have google'd it and most people are saying to try and recycle the app pool
but this has not worked for me. Does anyone have any other ideas what could be
causing this stupid error.

Thanks

Regards,

Trent

How did you use /_layouts/1033/PickerTreeDialog.js in your webpart? By using

And how you are trying now?

Hi Guys,

I am running MOSS and I am creating a custom web part which allows the user to
click "edit image" link which opens out of the box
/_layouts/AssetImagePicker.aspx. Within the picker the user can select the
image and click ok. I am trying to get the selected image back to my custom
webpart.

I have done similar before with LaunchPickerTreeDialog() using JavaScript
(/_layouts/1033/PickerTreeDialog.js) but cant see how to use the picker js file
- "/_layouts/1033/AssetPickers.js".

If anybody has done this before or if anybody knows how to do this I would love
to hear from them!

Regards,

Trent
