RE: SharePoint Designer 2010 with Office 2010
Hi Paul, Thanks for your post. Yes, downloading a copy works but this is really not ideal. I want to be able to open a document from SharePoint, make changes and save directly back into SharePoint. I also want to use co-authoring functionality. I also tried unchecking the box in LAN settings but it seemed to have no effect. Does it open? If so, the problem is with IE, not Office. 2.From IE, go to Tools-->Internet Options-->Connections-->LAN Settings and uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings". I’m guessing this will fix your problem. List Attachments
Hi Guys, Just wondering if this is known problem and if there is a workaround: Sharepoint attachments with server side validation. If a user is to attach a document when completing a form and accidently misses a required filed, the page will validate using server side (post back). When the user is brought back to the form the attachment is gone. The issue we are having is that users are oblivious that the attachment has not saved. The document should be uploaded during postback validation. Is there any way around this? Thanks everyone for their replies. The quest software looks very promising and easy to use. Thanks Paul. Regards, Trent From: ozmoss@ozmoss.com [mailto:ozm...@ozmoss.com] On Behalf Of Paul Noone Sent: Wednesday, 18 February 2009 9:47 AM To: ozmoss@ozmoss.com Subject: RE: Backup/Restore There's no datasheet I've found that compares all of them. Possibly because they're all so new, with more hitting the market all the time. Without question, the most comprehensive solution I've seen to date is DocAve but at those prices it would want to be. Simply too expensive for your small-medium market. I've done WebEx demos on all of them (with the exception of Backup Exec agent which we currently have running). I've never seen DPM in action but it's the only tool MS mention in their DR white paper. Please to hear it rates well. I may have to check it out next. :) But nothing, absolutely nothing, I have seen so far is what I would consider a compete DR solution. Almost every developer I've ever questioned during a demo has been blissfully unaware that a file structure even exists, let alone that it might require backing-up. Then again I could be hoping to much to expect that I can ever just click the big red button and see everything magically restored. The only benefit of any of these tools then is that they allow granular recovery. Some, like Quest, allow you to do this from existing stsadm back-ups, you can even search across multiple backups. This for me is a HUGE plus. Pros and cons everywhere. I'm doing a demo of Quest Recovery Manager for SharePoint next week. As well as a search facility it also claims to restore alerts, permissions, metadata and custom views. You can even search across archived and live recycle bins for individual documents. Very cool. There's a Flash demo here - http://www.quest.com/recovery_manager_for_sharepoint/product-demo/chap00.htm - and more info here - http://wwwquest.com/recovery-manager-for-sharepoint/<http://www.quest.com/recovery-manager-for-sharepoint/>. One other solution I forgot to mention is Idera Point Backup. It can't do full farm backup/recovery but it has this terrific self-service feature that a web-part interface for users (with permission) to restore their own documents from backups. It also allows configuring multiple farms and deploying from one to another through the UI. Still in its infancy but definitely one to watch. I've also attached a DocAve vs Backup Exec datasheet, worthless as it might be. What REALLY pees me off about the Backup Exec agent (if you'll allow me the rant) is that, despite its claims to support MOSS 2007, the documentation only refers to Portal Server 2003! Their forum provides an ever-growing list of seriously peed-off users with more questions than answers. And their tech support is non-existent. RE: Undo - Help!
Thanks Daniel, The backup of the sql database is done using Backup Exec. I am doing some testing now to ensure I can restore the database as a different name. Thanks for your help Regards, Trent Allday From: ozmoss@ozmoss.com [mailto:ozm...@ozmoss.com] On Behalf Of Daniel Brown Sent: Thursday, 5 February 2009 11:06 AM To: ozmoss@ozmoss.com Subject: RE: Undo - Help! Hi Trent, Yes it is completely possible to restore to a new "temporary" web application to retrieve the items you wish to get back. More information about how to restore can be found at : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262087.aspx Essentially, you create a new web allocation and restore the backup into there. Of course this is depends on if your backup is done via Staadm or though SharePoint, if its a SQL backup then you should be able to create a web application, delete the database it creates and restore it as the same name. It really comes down to what backup solution did you use. AssetImagePicker.aspx
Hi Guys, I am running MOSS and I am creating a custom web part which allows the user to click "edit image" link which opens out of the box /_layouts/AssetImagePicker.aspx. Within the picker the user can select the image and click ok. I am trying to get the selected image back to my custom webpart. I have done similar before with LaunchPickerTreeDialog() using JavaScript (/_layouts/1033/PickerTreeDialog.js) but cant see how to use the picker js file - "/_layouts/1033/AssetPickers.js". If anybody has done this before or if anybody knows how to do this I would love to hear from them!
