We looked at AvePoint but considered it too expensive at the time.
We also trialled ROSS (early version) and found there were quite a few glitches
and it wasn't terribly intuitive, so dumped that too.
We also trialled Idera Pointbackup which looked very promising and much more
intuitive, with easy navigation and restoration between farms [see screenshot].
However I believe this also proved too costly. Everyone seems to use a per WFE
licensing model. :(

The free SharePoint Content Deployment Wizard rocks but is pretty manual. It
has features and a reliability factor that more expensive products couldn't
match. But it's pretty basic.
We're now using the CommVault SharePoint agent...I believe we're beginning to
regret this decision.
If I had the money I'd go for AvePoint. It's a proven and relatively mature
product considering SharePoint's lifespan.

You can investigate AvePoint (AveDoc 5). This is a good product and extends the
out of the box content deployment functionality.
Costs are based on how many WFE's you have in the environment(s).

Hi,
I'm doing some critical research in the SharePoint Content Deployment area.
Has anyone been able to evaluate ROSS yet?
http://www.repliweb.com/products/ross/index.php and what are your findings?
Otherwise how does your organisation use Content Deployment, what's considered
best practice, currently?
I've also looked at Chris O'Brien's Content Deployment Wizard on codeplex,
that' seems Ok to me.

Comments and experiences are more than welcome.
Cheers,
