--- Comment #2 from Ville Skyttä 2010-03-18 02:49:33 EDT
---
Thanks for the review.

The bundled COPYING is indeed the GPL v2 text, and it states "If the Program
does not specify a version number of this License, you may choose any version
ever published by the Free Software Foundation." which means that GPL+ is the
right thing to do.

See also the GPL+ entry at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing:

"A GPL or LGPL licensed package that lacks any statement of what version that
it's licensed under in the source code/program output/accompanying docs is
technically licensed under *any* version of the GPL or LGPL, not just the
version in whatever COPYING file they include."

Package Review
==

Key:
 - = N/A
 x = Check
 ! = Problem
 ? = Not evaluated

=== REQUIRED ITEMS ===
[x] Package is named according to the Package Naming Guidelines.
[x] Spec file name must match the base package %{name}, in the format
%{name}.spec.
[x] Package meets the Packaging Guidelines.
[x] Package successfully compiles and builds into binary rpms on at least one
supported architecture.
 Tested on: devel/x86_64
 [x] Rpmlint output:
source RPM: empty
binary RPM:empty
 [x] Package is not relocatable.
[x] Package is licensed with an open-source compatible license and meets other
legal requirements as defined in the legal section of Packaging Guidelines.
[!] License field in the package spec file matches the actual license.
License type: GPLv2+ according to the bundled COPYING file
License type: GPL+ according to the spec
[x] If (and only if) the source package includes the text of the license(s) in
its own file, then that file, containing the text of the license(s) for the
package is included in %doc.
[x] Spec file is legible and written in American English.
[x] Sources used to build the package match the upstream source, as provided
in the spec URL.
 SHA1SUM of source file: 8fa8cf4ebeea239fd2149a94ee607142ddceabb1
mbox2eml-0.1.1.tar.gz
[x] Package is not known to require ExcludeArch
[x] All build dependencies are listed in BuildRequires, except for any that
are listed in the exceptions section of Packaging Guidelines.
[-] The spec file handles locales properly.
[-] ldconfig called in %post and %postun if required.
[x] Package must own all directories that it creates.
[-] Package requires other packages for directories it uses.
[x] Package does not contain duplicates in %files.
[x] Permissions on files are set properly.
[x] Package has a %clean section, which contains rm -rf %{buildroot} (or
$RPM_BUILD_ROOT).
 [x] Package consistently uses macros.
[x] Package contains code, or permissable content.
[-] Large documentation files are in a -doc subpackage, if required.
[x] Package uses nothing in %doc for runtime.
[-] Header files in -devel subpackage, if present.
[-] Static libraries in -devel subpackage, if present.
[-] Package requires pkgconfig, if .pc files are present.
[-] Development .so files in -devel subpackage, if present.
[-] Fully versioned dependency in subpackages, if present.
[x] Package does not contain any libtool archives (.la).
[-] Package contains a properly installed %{name}.desktop file if it is a GUI
application.
[x] Package does not own files or directories owned by other packages.
[x] Final provides and requires are sane.

=== SUGGESTED ITEMS ===
 [x] Latest version is packaged.
[x] Package does not include license text files separate from upstream.
[-] Description and summary sections in the package spec file contains
translations for supported Non-English languages, if available.
[x] Reviewer should test that the package builds in mock.
 Tested on: devel/x86_64
[-] Package should compile and build into binary rpms on all supported
architectures.
 Tested on:
 [?] Package functions as described.
[-] Scriptlets must be sane, if used.
[-] The placement of pkgconfig(.pc) files is correct.
[-] File based requires are sane.
[-] %check is present and the test passes.

=== Issues ===
1. As far as i can see, the source files include no license specification, but
the bundled COPYING is the stock GPLv2+. I think that the license tag in the
spec file must be adjusted according to that. I'll trust your decision about
this.

--- Comment #14 from Andrea Musuruane 2010-03-17 18:37:49

Jon, we are almost done. Everything seems fine except a little glitch in the
upstream Makefile. And since you are upstream you have the privilege to fix it
instead of patching it :-)

$RPM_OPT_FLAGS are passed correctly but you are also using some fixed flag in
the Makefile, as in the following example:

$(CXX) -g -c main.cpp

The "-g" parameters is fixed and cannot be taken out or changed.

I suggest you do something like the following. At the beginning of your
Makefile declare the CFLAGS you "upstream" want to use. E.g.:

CFLAGS = -g

This variable will be overwritten if it is passed in the make invocation, like
you are already doing in the spec file.

Then call the compiler as in this example:

$(CXX) $(CFLAGS) -c main.cpp

In this way you have complete control of the flags, i.e. for both "upstream"
and "downstream".

HTH!

Why are you bundling client.pem and server.pem with other documentation? I
don't think it's a good idea to distribute x509 certificates with private keys
like that. Everybody should always generate their own certificates and private
keys.

psycopg2. I hope the above looks sane to you.

   Summary: Review Request: python26-psycopg2 : psycopg2 Postgres
client code for python26 on EPEL5
   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: medium
  Priority: medium
 Component: Package Review
AssignedTo: nob...@fedoraproject.org
ReportedBy: dmalc...@redhat.com

   Estimated Hours: 0.0
Classification: Fedora
Target Release: ---

Spec URL:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-psycopg2.spec

SRPM URL:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-psycopg2-2.0.14-2.el5.src.rpm

Note: this is purely intended for the EPEL5 branch, not for Fedora

Description:
I'm working on a python2.6 stack, parallel-installable with the main 2.4 stack.

This is python-psycopg2-2.0.14-1 from EPEL5 reworked somewhat so that it builds
against python2.6, rather than python2.4

Diff versus that specfile:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/from-python-psycopg2-2.0.14-1-to-python26-psycopg2-2.0.14-2.diff

The rpmlint output is clean, apart from this warning (due to the dist tag):
python26-psycopg2.i386: W: incoherent-version-in-changelog 2.0.14-2
2.0.14-2.el5

The "License" of that package appears to be LGPL version 3 or later, with an
exception. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing says "Please be sure that
any exceptions are approved by emailing them to fedora-legal-l...@redhat.com
first." I haven't done that yet; was this done for python-psycopg2?

The original review request for python-psycopg2 was bug 199784.

installed and test run with Mock and have a clean build.

I have managed to build and test run this but as this is my first rpm I have
some problems I would like some help with.

The release number is different - is this a major issue but it matches upstream

I have problems getting a desktop icon. It is in the original tar.gz but the
python build looses it. Removing this statement breaks the install so I am
confused. Looked at Eric and marave for guidance.

Can anyone help me sort this out and get it into Fedora .

Thanks

Uh? Perhaps I'm wrong, but I can't see them anywhere, neither in the source rpm
nor in the built one in 3.0-0.10.a1. Just to make sure I get you correctly,
you're talking about the files in /release/languages and /release/themes,
right? The languages folder seems to contain only the english-us locale and the
themes folder is apparently empty. 3.0-0.9.a1 still had those in, but I thought
Thibault had fixed this with the new update - am I missing anything?

Ok. Actually removed these files, plus windows libs. (lib/*.a)
Now calls ldconfig at %post and %postun. In the future, we will certainly drop
these shared libs that aren't use by other programs.

Hmm... wonder why they did it that way. Functionality is the important
thing... though it seems confusing to me... most users would assume that
python26-setuptools means setuptools... not distribute. Maybe there was some
reason why they did it that way that I'm missing. Maybe your reviewer can
comment.

Summary: Review Request: python26-mysqldb : Interface to MySQL for python26 on
EPEL5

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=574545

Summary: Review Request: python26-mysqldb : Interface to MySQL
for python26 on EPEL5
   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: medium
  Priority: medium
 Component: Package Review
AssignedTo: nob...@fedoraproject.org
ReportedBy: dmalc...@redhat.com
 QAContact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: nott...@redhat.com, fedora-package-rev...@redhat.com
   Estimated Hours: 0.0
Classification: Fedora
Target Release: ---

Spec URL:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-mysqldb.spec

SRPM URL:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-mysqldb-1.2.3c1-2.el5.src.rpm

Note: this is purely intended for the EPEL5 branch, not for Fedora

Description:
This is the python26-mysqldb package from IUS for EL5:
http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/SRPMS/python26-mysqldb-1.2.3c1-1.ius.el5.src.rpm
http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/SRPMS/repoview/python26-mysqldb.html

reworked somewhat for import into EPEL5

Diff versus that specfile:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-mysqldb-from-1.2.3c1-1.ius-to-1.2.3c1-2.diff

I used this command to fix the encoding of the specfile:
  iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8 python26-mysqldb.spec > tmp.spec

The rpmlint output is clean, apart from this warning (due to the dist tag):
python26-mysqldb.i386: W: incoherent-version-in-changelog 1.2.3c1-2
1.2.3c1-2.el5

My bad: this package doesn't actually install :(

I missed the move of easy_install to easy_install-2.6, which meant that it
shadowed the version from the main stack.

Updated SRPM:

Diff of specfile:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/from-0.6.10-1-to-0.6.10-2.diff

Fixes the shadowing issue; rpmlint output is as before

Spot, thanks for wading through this!

Oh, two things - otherwise this looks good from my side: The source tarball
still seems to contain the files in question. Can you make sure to rebuild the
tarball following the steps at the top of the .spec file and rebuild the .rpm?

You should presumably also run this, since I see two .so files in the .rpm [1].

As soon as we can make sure that the files in question got really excluded,
we'll need to ask Spot to lift FE-LEGAL, after which I can approve this. :)

Summary: Review Request: python26-setuptools - the "Distribute" fork of

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=574506

Summary: Review Request: python26-setuptools - the "Distribute"
fork of setuptools for the python26 EPEL5 package
   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: medium
  Priority: medium
 Component: Package Review
AssignedTo: nob...@fedoraproject.org
ReportedBy: dmalc...@redhat.com
 QAContact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: nott...@redhat.com, fedora-package-rev...@redhat.com
   Estimated Hours: 0.0
Classification: Fedora
Target Release: ---

Spec URL:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-setuptools.spec

SRPM URL:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-setuptools-0.6.10-1.el5.src.rpm

Note: this is purely intended for the EPEL5 branch, not for Fedora

Description:

This is a python26-setuptools to go with python26 in EPEL5. I haven't been as
conservative as I could, as this is the latest F-13 version of
python-setuptools, with the Python 3 support removed, and with some ideas taken
from the IUS python26-setuptools.

It is a rebase to the "distribute" fork of setuptools.

I haven't split out a separate -devel subpackage, as in the python26 build (see
bug 573151) the files needed at runtime by easy_install are in the core
"python26" subpackage, rather than "python26-devel"

If desired, I could instead be more conservative and simply reuse the
python26-setuptools from IUS.

It contains the .pyc fix referred to in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=573151#c9

I wasn't able to scratch build in Koji, as it needs python26 ("No Package
Found for python26-devel"); is this doable with chain builds?

The rpmlint output is clean, apart from this warning (due to the dist tag):
python26-setuptools.noarch: W: incoherent-version-in-changelog 0.6.10-1
0.6.10-1.el5

[Bug 573151] Review Request: python26 - Parallel-installable Python 2.6 for EPEL5

2010-03-17 Thread bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=573151

--- Comment #9 from Dave Malcolm 2010-03-17 11:53:44 EDT
---
I discovered a problem with .pyc/.pyo files when attempting to rebuild
python26-setuptools: on the build I did on my RHEL5 workstation, the .pyc files
are incorrectly byte-compiled for 2.4, not 2.6 (the first four bytes are 6d f2
0d 0a, which is a 2.4 bytecode file, when it should be d1 f2 0d 0a for 2.6).

The problem is that RHEL5's /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/macros contains a definition of
%__os_install_post which invokes /usr/lib/rpm/brp-python-bytecompile without
any arguments, which leads to all .py files in a package payload being
byte-compiled with /usr/bin/python (rather than, say, /usr/bin/python2.6)

If there's a mismatching "magic" number, Python can't used the cached bytecode,
and will be forced to recompile the .py file (the bytecode _is_ incompatible),
which is slow; if running as non-root the runtime will have to recompile every
time, since it doesn't have permission to write back the .py file. If running
as root the file will get written back, leading to noise from rpm -V and
probably SELinux mislabeling woes.

I believe this will affect anyone building any Python modules as RPMs for
non-standard Python stacks on RHEL5. It looks like IUS builds are affected by
the same problem: specifically, I looked at
http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius/stable/Redhat/5/x86_64/python26-setuptools-0.6c9-1.1.ius.el5.noarch.rpm
and it too has .pyc files erroneously starting with 0x6d (py2.4), not 0xd1
(py2.6).

I ran into this problem with the Python 3 stack in Fedora, and I wrote an
rpmlint test for it:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=531102
which is in rpmlint upstream as of 0.93

We fixed it in Fedora 13 by fixing rpm-build:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=531117

Changing rpm-build for this is not going to be doable in the context of EPEL,
so it looks like we need to supply a script to do this.

The approach I'm following is to add a new macro file:
   /etc/rpm/macros.python26
as part of the core "python26" package, containing a reimplementation of
"__os_install_post" intended to be identical to the standard one, except that
it specifies "python26" when invoking "brp-python-bytecompile".

Then every python26-foo module would need to define __os_install_post to use
the alternate implementation.rpm automatically looks in that directory for
add-on macros, so no further work ought to be necessary.

Hopefully this sounds sane. It looked like there were no lib vs lib64
differences in the implementation of the macro, but I didn't check on every
architecture.

I've tested this in my build of python26-setuptools, using the macro in this
way in python26-setuptools.spec:
%define __os_install_post %{__python26_os_install_post}
and when doing so, the .pyc files in the payload correctly begin with byte
0xd1, rather than (incorrectly) with byte 0x6d.

Updated specfile: http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26.spec
Diff versus last specfile:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/from-2.6.4-22-to-2.6.4-23.diff

Updated SRPM:
http://dmalcolm.fedorapeople.org/epel-packaging/python26-2.6.4-23.el5.src.rpm

Scratch build in Koji:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=2058979

Adds this rpmlint error, which is a false-positive:
python26.i386: E: script-without-shebang /etc/rpm/macros.python26

I had no idea... I think that sounds sane and not a big deal if all the
packagers need to do is define __os_install_post. I assume python26-devel
would provide the macros file?
