If there was a 5.1.5 it wouldn't build anymore, but that version would only have minor changes. If you feel that it is likely to need some work keep it as is. I don't know how to do this. All I want to specify is the use of some 5.1 version of Lua. I tried BuildRequires: texinfo, lua-devel == 5.1, but this happens: $ rpmbuild -ba datalog.spec error: Failed build dependencies: lua-devel = 5.1 is needed by datalog-1.7-2.fc15.i686 I tried lua-devel = 5.1 5.2, but you can't say that. You only get to use one comparison operator. So how to I say use any version of lua 5.1? - You need to create a -devel sub-package to package header and .so (no suffix) files (.so.0.0.0 stays in the main package). I assume the .so.0 stays in the main package too. The address for the FSF has also been updated to the most recent address. I introduced a bug with one of my patches which lead to the problems scanning files you were having.
