As this is not a mandatory element for the package I will approve it.

However I strongly encourage you to try to contact upstream further. You are
the one who will get the bug report and being in contact with upstream is
important to be able to fix these bugs.
And having the unit-test running is for sure something that will make your life
as packager safer.

This package is APPROVED.

I think it would be interesting to have the unit-test running in the spec.

Also I am not sure the example folder should actually be tag as %doc since
it contains plugins.
What's your opinion ?

%{name}.spec unless your package has an exemption.

[X] The package must meet the Packaging Guidelines.

  Licensing Guidelines.

[X] The License field in the package spec file must match the actual license.

in its own file, then that file, containing the text of the license(s) for

[X] The spec file for the package MUST be legible.

[X] The sources used to build the package must match the upstream source, as

[X] All build dependencies must be listed in BuildRequires, except for any
 that are listed in the exceptions section of the Packaging Guidelines ;
inclusion of those as BuildRequires is optional.

[NA] The spec file MUST handle locales properly. This is done by using the

[NA] If the package is designed to be relocatable, the packager must state

a directory that it uses, then it should require a package which does
 create that directory.

would
drop the %{__python} for python).

[X] The package must contain code, or permissable content.

[NA] Large documentation files must go in a -doc subpackage.

[X] If a package includes something as %doc, it must not affect the runtime

properly if it is not present.
  Remark: see above

[NA] Header files must be in a -devel package.

[NA] Static libraries must be in a -static package.

[NA] If a package contains library files with a suffix (e.g. libfoo.so.1.1),
then library files that end in .so (without suffix) must go in a -devel
  package.

[NA] In the vast majority of cases, devel packages must require the base
package using a fully versioned dependency: Requires: %{name} =
  %{version}-%{release}.

[X] Packages must NOT contain any .la libtool archives, these must be removed

I would not add all the necessary code to support python3 in your spec as long
as upstream does not support python3.

One can not predict if the project is ever going to switch to python3 and in
the meanwhile it is a quite big overhead in the spec.
Keep it simple ;-)
