This is reproducible with current Packman MPlayer:
MPlayer-config.patch (part of Packman's patches against MPlayer source) assumes
that if vo vdpau does not work, [vo.vdpau] profile will not be used.

I don't know if this is intended to work (I suspect the profile is loaded before
vdpau-initialisation fails), but I can at least confirm that it definitely
doesn't work.

Apart from that:
If joystick is not wanted, it can be disabled at compilation time, no reason to
do it at runtime.
vo=vdpau,xv should not be needed, it is the current default (if this default
changes, there likely will be a good reason)

The bug was reported earlier:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.package-management.packman/5434
Unfortunately, I didn't understand that the user had not manually added the
profile. (I had originally mildly protested against the changed config file,
though.)

Workaround is to either delete /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf or just the lines
vo=vdpau,xv and vc=ff

Its not nvidia.

Sorry, I jumped to conclusion after see your Mplayer output :
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory
[vdpau] Error when calling vdp_device_create_x11: 1

If your system has had an nvidia run package installed at some time you may have some conflicting x and gl libs hanging around. If so you
need to find any libs with nvidia in the name, examine which package the came from and try to remove it with zypper or yast. If it doesn't
belong to anything, delete it. rpm -q --whatprovides fullpath/libname will identify the rpm it belongs to. Especially look in
/usr/X11R6/lib and lib64 in an x86_64 system. You have to refresh your intel driver after doing anything. Mplayer is dependent on libvdpau1
I think.

It looks like vdpau is not (completely) supported by your video card. I had

Should an Intel or ATI card driver support vdpau?

Looks like /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf is broken.
It seems to force vdpau just for the kicks.

[packman] MPlayer broken for .flv files

2011-04-24 Diskussionsfäden Olaf Hering

For me mplayer does not play flv files anymore. This happend after the
packman repo reorganisation from a flat directory to the
Essentials,Extra,Games, etc. subdirs. I dont have a specific date when it
broke. The first version that did not work is this, todays version does
not work either:

...
Name: MPlayer Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 1.0rc4_r33179 Vendor:
http://packman.links2linux.de
Release : 1.pm.1.1 Build Date: Fr 01 Apr 2011 23:23:32
CEST
Install Date: Mi 20 Apr 2011 10:05:00 CEST Build Host: eckhaus
Group : Productivity/Multimedia/Video/Players Source RPM:
MPlayer-1.0rc4_r33179-1.pm.1.1.src.rpm
...

Hopefully this is not a rude form of forcing me to upgrade to 11.3 or newer.
However, I just checked on a 11.3 installation and it does not work there
either.
