I have some people saying "stick to the packman subject" here and some that
tell me something else.

I have no idea why i am using fbdev/fbdev2. All i did was install the rpm
from packman and right-click the video file and say "open with mplayer". I
don't know what vo it uses or why (and up until the other day, i did not
know what a vo was). I do, however, have it working now.

You should fix your GTK theming setup...

You are using fbdev/fbdev2 as video output and it does not work. Why are
you using fbdev?

When i run gmplayer as root, it plays (although the video can
not be seen. i think my video resolution has something to do with the
video not looking right). I have been trying to get this working
every-since i enabled "desktop effects" in gnome (3d, wobbly windows and
the like). Can anyone take the time to vnc into my pc so they can see
exactly what is happening? I will gladly setup an account for you. AOL
instant messenger name is carnold0201 and yahoo im is carnolf52000. I am
begging now :)

OK, i got it working. I used gmplayer -vo x11 from the CL and
this played it just like it use to. The question is, how to make it always
use x11?

Here is mplayer -vo help
MPlayer dev-SVN-rUNKNOWN-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz (Family: 15, Model: 2, Stepping: 9)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2
Available video output drivers:
fbdev Framebuffer Device
fbdev2 Framebuffer Device
directfb Direct Framebuffer Device
dfbmga DirectFB / Matrox G200/G400/G450/G550
cvidix console VIDIX
null Null video output
mpegpes Mpeg-PES to DVB card
yuv4mpeg yuv4mpeg output for mjpegtools
tga Targa output
pnm PPM/PGM/PGMYUV file
md5sum md5sum of each frame

I think this "desktop effects" uses directfb.
2 things: 1)how do i tell what i am using now?
2)how do i change to something different?

Thanks for the help Manfred.

There's no special support necessary. There are a lot of output plugins
in MPlayer (and other video players). Try another, if the selected
default dosen't work ('mplayer -vo help' will show you the list)

[packman] MPlayer compilation

2007-09-03 Diskussionsfäden Chris Arnold
I am trying to find out if the rpm at packman site has xgl/compiz support
(my mplayer does not work when xgl is enabled):
rpm -qa MPlayer
MPlayer-1.0rc1try3-1.pm.1

Does mplayer rpm from packman site support xgl/compiz?
