kodi works for me. At least the arte tv plugin. ARD and youtube are not
working.

Please try again if it works with libav*-2.8.2016...rpm.

This would be wrong. kodi worked fine since months.

Hi,
We can also build Kodi with it's internal version of ffmpeg.
version 2.8.6 from https://github.com/xbmc/FFmpeg

We used to do it for some time due to an issue in opensuse ffmpeg version.

Are the pkgs consistent, everything relevant coming from packman?
Today I have upgraded ffmpeg-2.8 to the current release/2.8 state with a
_service file. This should make sure the rpm version of each libav*.rpm
is newer than the old 2.8.6, so zypper should automaticaly pick the
packman version.

Done.
Still I wonder why 2.8 makes trouble just now, its available since October.

That might be but before your request[1] kodi explicitely required
libavdevice 55.0.0 which pulled in all the other stuff.

It required 55 or newer, which was ffmpeg with version 2.8.
So how exactly can I reproduce the crash? I never use kodi.

As soon as I start it it crashes on Leap :-)

The trouble is that 2.6 and 2.8 use the same SONAMEs, so there is little
gain in having a ffmpeg-2.6 pkg.

That's why I said we should figure out how we can have multiple versions
installable side by side :-)

That might fix this particular problem but will leave our KODI users in
the wind whenever they try to get support from the forums...

I think the bug is that kodi links against ffmpeg-2.8 and libX. And
libX in turn links either against ffmpeg-3 or another libY which links
against ffmpeg-3.

I doubt that as simply building against ffmpeg-2.8[1] is avoiding the crash.

It looks like ffmpeg-2.6 is used for this kodi. We can add yet another
ffmpeg variant and force it via pkgconfig() in kodi.spec.

That sounds like a good idea.

Since ffmpeg 2.8 is used since a long time already its not really a new
bug.

14 days isn't really a long time IMHO :-) And as you can see on the kodi
forums, users get sent away with problems that occur with this combination.

I've noticed it on the weekend but it could have happened earlier
because I don't necessarily restart kodi with every package update...

Current kodi-15.2-6 and its dependencies link against ffmpeg-2.8.
Is there perhaps a mix of OBS and PMBS packages? Unfortunately with the
new ffmpeg-2.8 pkg the CI_CNT of the ffmpeg libs dropped from 55 to 1.
This breaks 'zypper dup'. Looks like the only way around is a few dozen
dummy commits in ffmpeg-2.8 to bump the CI_CNT to increase the
version-release number.
