Re: Strange Error

has already occured by the time you get to this line of code. Memory

BTW, the Metrowerks team is able to start talking about some of the
features in the new CodeWarrior for Palm OS V8 release coming next
month. One of them that would help a lot in situations like this is
watchpoint support. We worked with Keith to get a single virtual
watchpoint added to POSE 3.3; the CW debugger knows how to set it. Once
its set, any write the to data being watched will trigger a break into
the debugger. This can help you find out where a piece of data is being
corrupted -- you see corruption the first time, restart the program,

Now *that's* something I'd pay for (once I get over the pain of paying
US$350 for an incomplete environment).

Now if we can work out why I've got this intermittent target not
registered problem I'll be really happy.

Problem with pilrcui

2001-09-23 Thread Behdad Esfahbod

Hi,

After installing pilrc-2.8p7 on the Redhat GNU/Linux 7.1, it seems
that works, but pilrcui crashes when I try to open a rpc file, with
the error message:

pilrcui: plex.c:99: PlexGetElementAt: Assertion `i pplex-m_iMac' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

What does it mean? and what shall I do now?

Another problem, when I try to compile the pilrc's example, it wants
SDK 3.5, but I have 4.0, do I need every version of SDK installed?
Aren't they backward compatible?

Thanks in advance,

have heard of some of these, but I'm not seeing (but I am not saying I am
right - as many times I'm wrong) any IDE that comes from a known company,
financially stable, has lots of customers, etc.

How about AppForge, from http://www.appforge.com/ ?

AppForge allows you to create cross-platform applications using
Visual BASIC as an IDE, which (last I checked) comes from a known
company, financially stable, has lots of customers, etc. :-)

Internal clock

2001-09-23 Thread Martin Reinfried

Is there an unchangeable (other than by hard reset) internal clock that an
application can make use of in order to allow dispersal of information a
certain amount of time after the user performs an action? I am interested
in writing an app where the user would enter a code, and some amount of time
later (say 30 minutes), a piece of information would become available. If I
just look at the time set by the user, then clearly, the user could just
change the time to 30 minutes later to make the information available
instantly. Is there perhaps an accessible clock that just gives seconds
since the last reset? If so, there would be no way for the user to speed up
delivery of the information (they could slow it down by performing a reset,
but that can be dealt with). I would appreciate any information. Thanks,

Martin

Alliance program Hardware discount

2001-09-23 Thread Jim Duffy

I just went to the Hardware Discount listing in the Resource Pavilion to
order a IIIc for a color app I'm doing for a client only to find that the
500, 505 and VIIx are on the list.

Has anyone else noticed this on the list or it is just me. Not to be
paranoid or anything, but could I have been downgraded as a developer or
something? ;)

The IIIc and many others were on the list just last week...

Re: I hate to say I told you so but..

2001-09-23 Thread Denis Faivre

From: Scott Herman :
 [...]We are
NOT the market. We like the elegance of our cute little bundled apps
and data, and that tight binding works well for consumers using the
appliance model, where the device is an appliance designed to fulfill
a specific need. However the market perception of what these things
are is changing. They are no longer just electronic organizers. They
are now becoming thought of as Hand Held Personal Computers.

[...]The point that Michael is making is that
if Palm wants to continue to be a force in the handheld market it must
provide what the market wants. Palm is relying, in large part on US,
the developers, to provide what the market wants. They are also relying
on us to tell them what we need, in terms of the OS, in order to deliver
 what the market wants.

We, as developers, have alot invested in OS stability. We will tend to
resist the changes that the market demands. We must get OUR heads out
of the sand and talk to more users. [...]

I have got the feeling that the distance between Palm and the market is
progressively increasing. That is even more true here in Europe, where the
installed base is smaller, so that fewer people have enough experience to
decide what is right and what is wrong.

A large part of the problem is market education. Most of us are convinced of
the qualities of the Palm OS Platform. However, lots of people don't know
about PDAs when they buy their first one.

And guess what?

They buy the one with more MHz, more MB, more pixels, more colors, more
applications, simply because they feel more secure (and also sometimes
because the salesperson gets more money from a $700 sale than from a $500
one).

They also buy the machine they read about in the magazines. And magazines
love to talk about machines with bells and whistles rather than simple ones
(and also sometimes because the supporter of the machine buys lots of ads).

That is why I really believe that everyone has to make an effort to make
market education better. Explain to users why less is more, instead of
simply stating it.

After 6 full weeks of trying to log in, I managed to find the
right person to look into my Pavilion issues, and now upon logging in, see
the same three handhelds you see. No cradles, no cradle parts, no
connectors, no other handhelds. Not a conspiracy, must be overly excessive
inventory on those items.

Show the password on the screen, don't mask it. The input methods
are not
accurate enough to prevent mistakes. Besides, the Palm is small
enough so
no one should be looking over your shoulder.
or write your password dialog complete with numeric/alphanumeric
buttons so
the user doesn't use the built-in keyboard or graffiti.

 Hi friends,
For my palm project, I have a text field which takes the
password. But in text field, the characters
We type will be echoed. Do we have any simple method for echoing
asterisks(*) in a text field. By taking
Keydown event and using setText() is a difficult task. Do we have
a simple
 way of doing this?

 Thanks
