And that's where the problem lies. It's been a while, but here's what I
recall that you have to overcome:

-Find a way to create a 'virtual' serial port, over USB
-Create the PPP bridge, over the virtual serial port you just created
-Get Palm OS to connect

It does work, but it's kind of a pain to get setup. And it's not something
that's going to 'just work', like a conduit would.

I'd recommend making a conduit (remeber how avantGo used to work?). It's
more standard, and a lot less of a bother. Plus, IIRC you can't sync while
the connection is active; could be an issue for you, I don't know.

There's software out there (softick, mocha ppp, etc), that will do this for
you; however, it's obviously not redistributable.

I'm a former palm developer & user, that has switched to using iPhone OS
(not developing yet though). And seriously, as much as I hate to say it, it
isn't that bad (I don't like Apple).

The SDK is terribly limited, but in OS 3.0 it will get a little better. At
any rate, I'd rather start over with iPhone OS than Web OS (JavaScript? You
gotta be kidding).

If someone like Dmitry would develop for it, that would be so great...

Sure. Just register for the notification after the device has finished
resetting.

Read the Docs for more info, there is a launch code IIRC (may be a
notification instead/in addition to).

Sorry, but I don't see why it matters. Just email it off list; unless it's

Sure, it's probably 'illegal', but it won't matter if he's actually allowed
to have it (registered pdn, whatever).

When you upload it to a website or file sharing site/btorrent, then you
could get it trouble. Email prob isn't considered 'making available' the
file.

You could redirect the output to the headphone jack only. Then, when the

paused...

Ok, that looks good. I never really understood much about pointers and
casts... :-(

So, IF that works, then I still have the 'problem' of two notifications. I
haven't found this to be the case yet, but maybe they are being missed. The
problem I see here would be that the first notification may be the power,
thus getting ignored. The second may be the serial/usb, and may get
missed... ?

Also, I don't exactly know what to do with the hex (?) values. Can I just if
(device == 0x0010) or should I convert it to decimal somehow? Or is it dec?
Sorry for my total ignorance...

Well, I'll see what happens..

Thanks a lot!

sysExternalConnectorAttachEvent: NotifyDetailsP

2008-07-31 Thread Christopher Stamper
I'm writing an application that uses the sysExternalConnectorAttachEvent
notification. When I respond to the notification, I need to determine what
kind of device was connected.

The docs say:

"The notifyDetailsP field points to a UInt16 that identifies which type of
device was attached."

So, I've done something like this in PilotMain:

UInt32 PilotMain(UInt16 cmd, MemPtr cmdPBP, UInt16 launchFlags)
{

UInt16 DeviceType = 1;

switch (cmd)
{
 case sysAppLaunchCmdNotify:
  If (((SysNotifyParamType*)cmdPBP)->notifyDetailsP == &DeviceType)
//Do action for that device 1
  and so on...
}
}

Is this how I should do it?

If so, what values should I use for DeviceType? I've searched the headers,
and I can't find any references to this. Shouldn't there be some constants
that I can use? Or do I really have to use the trail-and-error method for
determining device type numbers(isn't working so far)?

Basically, I only want to be sure that the device is a sync cable (usb,
serial, etc) and not just a charger/modem/whatever else.

Thanks!

Re: CodeWarrior 9, Command Line Builds with Visual Build Pro

2008-04-19 Thread Christopher Stamper
Are errors and warnings outputed to stdio? i.e. printed on the command line
after typing said command?

If so, something like:

cmdide.exe "C:\Builds\CompTracker 5.0\trunk\Palm Program\CompTracker1.mcp"
/s/r/b/c/q > thefile.txt

should work.

(Haven't done anything like this in years! Reminds me of the DOS days...)

Make a seperate app just to do this command, and launch it form the Visual

Re: CodeWarrior 9, Command Line Builds with Visual Build Pro

2008-04-17 Thread Christopher Stamper
What's the point?

Just put the command in a text file called whatever.bat and it will work
just as well.

You should do:

"C:\Program Files\Metrowerks\CodeWarrior\Bin\Cmdide.exe"
"C:\Temp\Reptoids\Reptoids.mcp" /s/r/b/c/q

instead, I think maybe.

If you *need* something more, I could make a quick VB.net app for you

Re: Install to card synchronization failed

2008-04-11 Thread Christopher Stamper
This won't help if your goal is to install it on a real device.

To make a real device sync a file to a card, you need to add some pref
records or something to register it. This same method will work on a
simulator, btw.

If you don't want to do the programming, you could use someone else's app
that will do it. Resco Explorer can do it, I believe.

Sorry if that makes no sense. I don't exactly understand what you're doing.

Switching sound output methods

2008-04-07 Thread Christopher Stamper
I'm trying to make an application (NOT for Treo/Cent) that can make an OS 5
pda output sounds, such as MP3's, out of the headhone jack *ONLY*. So if,
when playing an MP3 w/ ptunes, you unplug the headphones, it will *not* play
through the speaker.

I don't want to make a player, just a small application that can 'disable'
the speaker. Maybe even for individual apps, though that's not too
important.

Is that possible?

(I think not, but...)

Re: Is the T3 still relevant?

2008-02-13 Thread Christopher Stamper
Of course the industrial trends are against PDA's. I mean, what do you
expect? There are NO good PDA's on the market anymore. Ever since palm
stopped making them, people stopped *buying* them. They still want them. Buy
what would you get if you already had a TX? An iTouch? Maybe soon.. :-(

So, IMO it's the palm's fault that nobody buys pda's anymore; they just
don't make them.

Re: Is the T3 still relevant?

2008-02-11 Thread Christopher Stamper
I think the T3 is very relevant, for the above reasons and more.

But, more importantly, you need to consider future devices. If palm
*ever*gets smart and makes some new PDA's, you apps definitely should
be
compatible. And, if it won't run on a T3, I doubt it could run on the next
PDA from palm, if there ever is one... ;-)

If you can find out which update package is causing the problem, you can
disable that particular patch. Otherwise, you can disable automatic updates,
but that is very dangerous.

You're probably using a card number other than 0(1?) in one of your function

is only for internal 'cards'.

If I sent you a copy of the SDIO slot driver off of some other palm, would
it work?

It's available, if you want it...

Re: Alternate platforms

2007-12-01 Thread Christopher Stamper
Nice to hear what's going on.

I'm not about to stop developing for palm. But I might start something else
in addition, like android. If only I could use c++...

Palm's not doing so well lately, you know... :-)

Alternate platforms

2007-11-30 Thread Christopher Stamper
I've noticed less activity around here lately. So I'm wondering, are some of
you moving on to another platform?

With ALP, Android and an iPhone SDK coming up, I wonder how many of you are
planning on not developing for palm anymore.

Any comments?

Re: Convert Access Db to Palm application

2007-11-27 Thread Christopher Stamper
You can't.

You should get a palm database application, like MobileDb, and convert your
Access db to a MobileDB format.

I'll let the others comment some more...

Re: source code

You can also download sample code... developerpavilion.com, pdn.palm.com,
etc

I recommend getting a good book, at amazon.com, on palm programming. There
are a few good ones, slightly out-of-date, but could still help a lot..

Re: Treo650 power key

2007-11-15 Thread Christopher Stamper
You may have to check the device type first, and then use the correct bit.
There should only be a few different types, like Tungsten, Zire or
Treo/centro.

Just my thoughts anyhow...

Re: Simulator crash

2007-11-14 Thread Christopher Stamper
Wow, sounds like your doing some serious programming! Maybe you shouldn't
switch??

But I still recommend using a different simluator, the one included with the
sdk is kind of odd. Worked for me with a somewhat similar problem:
pdn.palm.com

Besides that, I have no clue. So please excuse my meaningless bantering, if
it doesn't help. :-)

Re: Simulator crash

2007-11-14 Thread Christopher Stamper
I recommend to switch to eclipse. CW is old, and no longer updated.

As far as the simulator, why are you trying to connect to external hardware?
I don't see any reason to...

Try getting a real device simulator @ pdn.palm.com (sorry to send you to
another site). Something like the new Centro simluator. It could help a lot.

Re: Alarm Silent/Loud on Treo650

2007-11-10 Thread Christopher Stamper
...If all you want is to do this for your own use, Profiles is fine.

What you need to do is change the system volumes. If each app respects the
system volume settings, this would work fine. Not all apps do.

As far as how to do that, it involves setting a system preference. I won't
detail how to do it now, tell us if you want to know later...

What are you trying to do? If you are just setting and responding to an

However, if your doing something with ringtones, I've got no idea.

how do I make the borders of my app's icon transparent in the launcher. Do
