There was a slight problem building the Linux binary and the
AcuSolveReaderPlugin, so those are not yet available, but they will be
uploaded as soon as possible. I will reply to this email when they are
available for download.

Please let us know if you run into any problems with this release candidate.

Mathieu,

Do you want to take this one on? I suspect the patch needs some more

I've tried your patch and now it's possible to set real numbers for axis range

differently for real numbers in scientific notation: exponent is ignored when
using dot.

Also, I noticed another issue -- saving animation with two views (one, for

example, with 2D/3D distribution and one with 1D) is not working anymore!
In final movie I see two views but both with the same distribution.

Re: [Paraview] ParaView 5.2 Release Candidate 2 available for download

Hi!

Now, with RC2, fontconfig warns me about blank section:

Fontconfig warning: line 160: blank doesn't take any effect anymore.
please remove it from your fonts.conf

However, that all -- no more new folder "fontconfig" in the running
directory. Thank you, that was really annoying!

Also, lib-dynload is still missing in the lib/python2.7

This appears because we sort of hack up the Python installation which
Python doesn't like. It appears that just creating the
lib/python2.7/lib-dynload directory should suppress this warning. Can
you confirm before I respin a whole binary for it (the warning isn't
showing up at all on my machine)?

Yep, this helped! Thank you, Ben.

Unfortunately it is. FXAA is an approximate anti-aliasing solution that's
applied as a post-processing pass over the rendered scene -- since ParaView
often does distributed rendering, this is really the only way we can
reliably get anti-aliasing without introducing major artifacts at processor
boundaries.

Because it's only working with the rendered pixel data (instead of actual
geometric primitives), there are some occasional issues like this one. In
this case, it's detecting the intersections as aliased edges and attempting
to smooth them out, fattening the line near the intersection as a result.

Dave

Not sure if you're aware, but there is also the option to write out a
screenshot where the background is transparent using an alpha channel.
It also takes into account translucent geometry. It's under the Advanced
settings in the General tab in Settings (search will also find it).
Great! I didn't know, thank you! I've been expecting this feature for a
looong time! Now my life will be better:)

Hi!

I've just tried the 5.2rc and noticed this in the console:

And a fontconfig folder is created in the run directory with a bunch of
cache-files.

test.vtp
AngularPeriodicFilter (with angle = 90 and axiz = Z)
CellDatatoPointData
MergeBlocks

That works. However if you remove CellDatatoPointData from this pipeline
and try to merge the result of AngularPeriodicFilter you'll see the problem.

[Paraview] req: please exclude userguide from binary installers

2016-03-31 Thread Gena Bug

Hi!

Paraview is developed fast and all new features are great! That's why I
download all new releases including RC. However, installation binaries
are huge because they include UserGuide in pdf. Excluding it decreases
archive size from 379 Mb to 204 Mb (almost twice!) I know, most of you
have high-speed Internet and you don't see the difference, however I'm
not so lucky... It'll be great for me if developers exclude userguide
from the installation binaries.

P.S. Userguide included in "Data, Documentation, and Tutorials" type of
download, so there is also a kind of duplication.

Re: [Paraview] can't cmake pv5

Hi, Chuck!

Thank you for the response, unfortunately it doesn't help:
1. during the cmake step now I see a lot of messages:

-- Could NOT find MPI_CXX (missing: MPI_CXX_LIBRARIES)
-- Could NOT find MPI_Fortran (missing: MPI_Fortran_LIBRARIES)
}}}
2. however, I see "Configuring done" message at the end and
3. then a lot of dev-messages like this one:
{{{

4. OK, configuring done, so I type "make" and see this:

There is a better way. Build a multi-block structure that creates enough

this is easy. If you are using vtkStructuredGrids or vtkUnstructuredGrids,
take a look at vtkPeriodicDataArray and its subclass
vtkAngularPeriodicDataArray. If you need other type of periodicity, you may
need to create a new subclass of vktPeriodicDataArray. Also take a look at
vtkPeriodicFilter that can create such a multi-block dataset.

AngularPeriodicFilter (since 4.4) exist that do the job, isn't it?

Hi Tim,

There isn't any such functionality that exists directly in PV like this. A
long way of doing this may be:

- StreamTracer for first set of streamlines
- Use threshold or cut filter to get last points before they exit the
domain
- Use the Transform filter to move these points to the entrance of the
domain on the other periodic side
- StreamTracer with Custom source using Transform filter as source to
continue the streamlines
- Calculator filter to adjust IntegrationTime and other field values
(if this is important you'll probably need to do this one streamline at a
time).

This may get a bit sloppy and unwieldy but that's the best way I can think
about doing what you want.

If you do this and find a better way, please let us know!

Is there a way to tell Paraview that the domain is periodic and that
streamline integration can continue from the opposite face?

[Paraview] passing argument to pvpython script

2015-11-25 Thread Gena Bug

Hi!

I often write simple scripts for pvpython which take one or more
arguments (usually filenames) and run them so:

$ pvpython myscript.py filename

Till version 5rc1 I parse arguments using simple analysis of sys.argv,
like this:

{{{
...
import os, sys
from paraview.simple import *
paraview.simple._DisableFirstRenderCameraReset()

if len(sys.argv) < 1:
sys.exit('One parameter, name of an input file, is mandatory.')
if not os.path.exists(sys.argv[1]):
sys.exit('Specified file "' + sys.argv[1] + '" does not exists!')

data = OpenDataFile(sys.argv[1])
...
}}}

And this works fine untill I tried new version. In 5rc1 I always get
Segmentation Fault:
Error running
"~/ParaView-5.0.0-RC1-Qt4-OpenGL2-Linux-64bit/lib/paraview-5.0/pvpython"
"myscript.py" "filename"Segmentation fault

Seems, sys module couldn't be imported... Is it problem with rc-version?
How can I correctly pass arguments to a script?

Re: [Paraview] Cell to point, and ghost cells

2014-05-20 Thread Gena Bug

Hi, Scott,

Have you tried to use CleantoGrid first, before CelltoPoint?

On 20.05.2014 01:42, Scott, W Alan wrote:

I have a user that is getting visual artifacts between simulation processor
boundaries when using cell to point. My user is reading two files into
ParaView. He then runs cells to point. He then colors by a former cell
variable, which is now a point variable. He is seeing artifacts at the
boundaries of the two files. I am only on one processor for ParaView.

These artifacts are being created because we don't have ghost cells around each
file's data. I tried turning piece invariant on in the cell to point filter,
but it does nothing.

So, my questions - is this a feature or a bug? Do we want to fix it? How hard
is it to fix?

Thanks,

Alan

Hi!

Found another difference between 4.0.1 and 4.1.0rc1: the last doesn't
respect data ranges with upper bound value less than 1e-5 when coloring the
data. I attached an example that demonstrate the problem: it's a 1D mesh
with 100 hexahedral cells: half region has rho = 1e-11 and another half has
rho = 5e-6. If you open file in 4.1.0rc1 then color map will be from 1e-11
to 1e-5 (not 5e-6), rescaling doesn't help. In 4.0.1 all works fine.

Env: both 4.0.1 and 4.1.0rc1 were downloaded from the site and installed on
Debian testing amd64

(4.0.1) I'm getting much smaller png file (almost 3 times smaller than

Hi!

I've noticed that version for 64bit linux built with libc 2.15 has annoying
delays when zooming data. There is no such delay in version built with libc
2.3.6. I'm using debian testing amd64 with libc (eglibc) 2.17. Am I alone with
this problem?

> Folks,
Hi!

My old python-scripts that works fine with 3.98.1 are now complains about
printing to file-object. May be I do it wrong? This simple script:

import sys
out = sys.stdout
if len(sys.argv) > 1:
out = open('foo.txt', 'w')
out.write('foo\n')
out.close()
sys.exit()

works with 3.98.1 (and previous) but not with 4.0.0rc1:
$ ~/ParaView-4.0.0-RC1-Linux-64bit/bin/pvpython foo.py
foo
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "foo.py", line 6, in
out.close()
AttributeError: 'vtkPythonStdStreamCaptureHelper' object has no attribute
'close'

Can you explain me how to get rid of this error? Thanks in advance!

P.S. Debian testing amd64, paraview 4.0.0rc1 downloaded from the site as binary
for linux 64bit platform

[Paraview] pvbatch and process id

2013-02-04 Thread Gena Bug
Hi!

I'm trying to get a current process id from within a pvbatch script.
I found a solution here
(http://www.paraview.org/pipermail/paraview/2010-April/016759.html)
but this trick doesn't work for me.

I wrote a very simple script:
from paraview.simple import *
sm = servermanager
print 'parts = ', sm.ActiveConnection.GetNumberOfDataPartitions()
print 'my id = ', sm.vtkProcessModule.GetProcessModule().GetPartitionId()

If I run it with custom compiled paraview (with MPI enabled) I get:
$ mpirun -np 2 ~/projects/ParaView-build/bin/pvbatch tst_pvbatch.py
parts =  2
my id =  0

If I run it with pvbatch downloaded from www.paraview.org I get:
$ mpirun -np 2 ~/paraview/bin/pvbatch tst_pvbatch.py
parts =  1
my id = parts =  1
my id =  0
 0

What am I doing wrong?

Sorry for delay, Derek..

What do you mean by 'next step'? It's over, no more steps needed. In the table
volume integrals of your data are presented, one value for each data array.

Can't check because it built with glibc 2.14 but my system (debian testing) has
2.13:
$ ~/ParaView-3.98.0-RC2-Linux-64bit/bin/paraview
~/ParaView-3.98.0-RC2-Linux-64bit/lib/paraview-3.98/paraview: /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by ~/ParaView-3.98.0-
RC2-Linux-64bit/lib/paraview-3.98/libvtkpqApplicationComponents-pv3.98.so.1)
...

Is all new versions of PV will be built with glibc 2.14?

2012-11-09 Thread Gena Bug
Hi!

Thank you for your work! Properties tab is much more convenient now.

Some bugs or smth that I've noticed:
1. Fonts look awful on my Debian testing amd64 (screenshot is attached)
2. After pressing 'Show' button in Color group the error appears "Arguments to
pqLookupTableManager::setScalarBarVisibility cannot be null" if no data were
choosen, but button remains pressed
3. Can't reset view in Line Chart View after moving around with mouse. In
3.14.1
I can reset view by turning off and on again one of an active line, now it
doesn't work.. Also, didn't find an option "Specify the axis range".

Hi!

You can also try this:

[Paraview] Problem with 1D plotting on pyramidal mesh

2012-06-13 Thread Gena Bug
Hi!

I've noticed a bug in the last version of Paraview (3.14.1) on Debian testing
amd64. Plot
over line in pyramidal mesh doesn't show me the lines (I've checked versions
3.8 and 3.12 --
they're both worked as expected).

I created a bug #13238 with an example file. It's a simple pyramidal mesh in a
flat
quadratic region. Try to create a 1D plot over X-axis ({0.0,3.0}, 1.5, 0.0) and
you will see
the problem.

Re: [Paraview] MPI Socket in use

2012-04-17 Thread Gena Bug
Hi!

Some time ago I tried to built ParaView with MPI and noticed that even if
variables
MPI_{CXX,C}_COMPILER pointed to the right compilers (mpicxx and mpicc
respectively), the
compilers from CMAKE_{CXX,C}_COMPILER variables were used (g++ and gcc).

Try turning on CMAKE_VERBOSE_MAKEFILE and look what exactly happens.

P.S. What is the difference between MPI_{CXX,C}_COMPILER and
CMAKE_{CXX,C}_COMPILER
variables?

Is it possible to hide tab bar? I think that show it only when needed (when
more than one
tab is open) will be a good solution for those who works only with one tab
(like me) and
those who wants more.

[Paraview] 3.14 RC2, display tab mismatch selected data in the pipeline

2012-02-15 Thread Gena Bug
Hi!

I've noticed that clicking on 'eye' (make data visible) also selects data in
the pipeline
but doesn't update tabs (properties, display and info).

Steps to reproduce:
1. open any data
2. clip it for example (in that case original data become invisible)
3. click on 'eye' to make original data visible (this action will also select
data in the
pipeline)
4. see the props, display and info tab -- they still contain data of previous
selected data.

P.S. Debian testing amd64, ParaView 3.14 RC2 installed from binaries from the
site.

I made a C/C++ code to write VTK Unstructured (vtu) binary files: custom C-
frontend for ZLib and C++ for the rest of the code. I'd also experimented with
C++ ZLib frontend (gzstream) but without luck...

If you want I can send you the code out of the list (my project is source-
closed).

P.S. I should mention one person who helped me to write this code: Sébastien
Blaise

[Paraview] OpenDataFile doesn't work in RC2

2011-11-04 Thread Gena Bug
Hello!

I tried to open a file from python shell in 3.12.0RC2 and got this message:
vtr = OpenDataFile('tmp.vtr')
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
  File "/home/gennadiy/ParaView-3.12.0-RC2-Linux-x86_64/lib/paraview-3.12/site-
packages/paraview/simple.py", line 136, in OpenDataFile
reader = globals()[xml_name](FileName=filename, **extraArgs)
KeyError: 'XMLRectilinearGridReader'

The more explicit expression works fine:
vtr = XMLRectilinearGridReader(FileName = 'tmp.vtr')

In 3.10.1 it works both methods works as expected.

Re: [Paraview] Interpolate data from an unstructured mesh to a structured one

2011-11-02 Thread Gena Bug
Thank you very much -- you've saved me a lot of time!

One question about wavelet source -- can I generate rectilinear mesh with, for
example,
100x100x100 elements in [0, 1]x[0, 1]x[0, 1] extent?

[Paraview] Unable to write PNG file in RC3

2011-11-01 Thread Gena Bug
Hello!

After updating paraview from 3.12RC2 to 3.12RC3 I can't save any screenshots!
This is the
application' output:

libpng warning: Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.5.5
libpng warning: Application is running with png.c from libpng-1.2.46
libpng error: Incompatible libpng version in application and library
ERROR: In
/home/kitware/Dashboards/MyTests/ParaView-master/VTK/IO/vtkPNGWriter.cxx, line
199
vtkPNGWriter (0x85cef0): Unable to write PNG file!

My platform is Debian testing amd64. Package libpng12-0 has 1.2.46-3 version
number.

Re: [Paraview] Interpolate data from an unstructured mesh to a structured one

2011-11-01 Thread Gena Bug
Hello, Robert!

Thank you for quick response! Seems, this plugin is what I'm looking for. But
can you
explain me how can I compile it? I can't find any readme in the repository and
I don't have
enough experience with building paraview plugins. My platform is Debian testing
amd64.

[Paraview] Interpolate data from an unstructured mesh to a structured one

2011-10-31 Thread Gena Bug
Hello!

I have an interesting task -- I need to move the cell data from an unstructured
mesh to
corresponding cartesian mesh. Original domain is an alpha-degree 3D sector
(alpha is a
parameter, sector' angle, may be pi/3, pi/4, ...) with periodic side boundaries
and
unstructured discretization (hexahedral and wedge cells). The target domain is
a cube that
contains the whole cylinder (sum of N sectors: N*alpha = 2*pi). And my task is
to generate
cartezian mesh in the target domain (cube) and interpolate data from the
original mesh to
the cartezian.

I'm almost sure about answer, but I must ask: is there a combination of filters
that can do
the trick?

I think to write a python script that can do this, but I don't know how to:
a) create a cartezian mesh and
b) iterate throw mesh cells and their nodes.
