I don't know specifically about those programs, but I would doubt they
interfere with Nero. If any of them can make a direct copy of a DVD movie,
however, you should no that there was a recent court ruling prohibiting the
sale of such software.

Hi all, I'm having a problem with real player, I subscribed to a
service
on www.nascar.com, and when I was on vacation, it worked perfect, on an
aol dial up connection, now I'm at home on my Comcast cable connection
and every time I try to load that content, it comes up and says
warning
security and there's a close button there and the URL, that's it. I
believe this might be a firewall issue causing this, but has anyone
seen
this? Any ideas on what might fix it? I'm sure it would happen with
other
things as well but I don't use real player much, just when I absolutely
have to. If anyone's seen this, or can offer suggestions I'd appreciate
it, I'd like to get it working if I can't I'll have to cancel it, it's
  costing me money. Thanks,

Iriver mp3 players and AudioFeast

2004-09-24 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
Hello
Can you tell me which Iriver mp3 players are manageable to use
by a blind person. Model numbers please. Can you hook up the
Iriver via USB cable to a computer? Does it come with pc
software program and if so is it useable with JFW 5.10?

I found this service called AudioFeast that allows you to sync
their Audio Library of shows and music channels to their
supported mp3 devices and it includes the Iriver players and I
know some users on this list are using this Iriver player.

The software for the AudioFeast works only for Win 2000 and XP
Home. Requires 1 gb ofspace. 256 mb of RAM. They offer a free 15
day demo fo the service.

I would like to hear from those who try this service with their
software and the Iriver.

The web site is:

Thanks.

2004-09-24 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Folks:

I am using a Delta 66 soundcard as well as the computer's onboard sound chip. When I
boot the computer with JAWS set to load automatically at startup, JFW always loads up
on the Delta 66 soundcard even though the onboard chip is set as the default
soundcard. I have tried adding the Synth1 Port options in the JFW.ini file but had no
success. As it stands, I have to unload and reload JAWS in order to load up on the
internal sound chip.

Is there some way to configure windows so that JAWS will allways load up on the

Re: real player question

2004-09-24 Thread Larry Naessens
John, before you give up your subscription, you might want to consider that
as a rule of thumb, SP2 upgrades your security settings without consulting
you upon installation. Increased security is the primary concern of this
windows version. Whether you've changed security settings yourself or not, I
would encourage you to open those settings in IE and see if they're set
according to your intentions. For instance, something in settings was
blocking me from playing Winamp files, with my screen displaying exactly
what you described seeing in your own case. A message popped up telling me
that in effect, Windows was protecting me for myself. Of course, it didn't
say it in those words but the file was on my own website. Conversely,
Windows played the same file using Windows Media, without so much as a
gentle warning. I was also prevented from opening email attachments after
installing the program until I went in and changed that feature. So if you
want to deal with as few security issues as possible without the need to
adjust settings, Windows Media would probably be your best bet. It is my
experience that windows green lights it over Real, Winamp, or anything else.
I know that a lot of people in our group are not happy with Real, but I
really don't believe it's behind your problem here.

2. Has anyone had any experience using the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS
soundcard using JAWS as well as voice over IP applications?

Thanks all over the place gang.

Has anyone had much success in configuring Media player classic which installs with

Yo Larry:
Thanks for your response.
I have no problem finding wireless headsets, it's the wireless
Mike/Headphone combination that I am having a problem finding.

Thanks.

I believe Radio Shack has several wireless headset models, each permitting
differing distances from the base transmitting unit. If memory serves,
you're in Canada, so you might also check with Future Shop.

Re: Mlb link won't play

2004-09-24 Thread Larry Naessens
Hi Scott. When I had that problem yesterday, I noticed that Real was set to
play WMP content. I unchecked that association in preferences, unchecked the
box that instructed Real to check file associations at startup and then
enjoyed the Cubs victory. That being said, the way it looks to me, the new
Windows XP is far more liberal when it comes to letting WMP stream content
without security warnings. However, I have found that when I'm trying to
open a file and encounter a security warning, tabbing twice and pressing
enter often gets Windows to open the file, whether using Winamp, Real, or
whatever else.

Re: real player question

2004-09-24 Thread John Miller
It won't work on my ham radio computer either with windows 98, same error,
I'll play around a little more with it but if I can't get anywhere, and the
way today's going I won't, I'll just drop the hole thing. Today is 1 of
those days for me so far, I think after I play with the real player
situation for a little longer I'll go back to bed and try today again later.

No, WMP won't play Real Media. But if you adjust your security
preferences in IE, I think you'll be able to play your stream. I have
essentially the same setup as you and I play Real content using Real
Player all the time. Again, have a look at your settings to see if Windows
is blocking your content.

But will WMMP play real media files? I believe this is what I need, no
choices there. I'll try my ham radio computer this weekend when the time
comes too with windows 98, it will take a lot of upgrading to make it
even think about it but that might not be a bad idea. I don't think
windows media player will work with realone subscriptions with the log in
and stuff, some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd seriously doubt with
what I want to do, switching players is an option.

John, before you give up your subscription, you might want to consider
that as a rule of thumb, SP2 upgrades your security settings without
consulting you upon installation. Increased security is the primary
concern of this windows version. Whether you've changed security
settings yourself or not, I would encourage you to open those settings
in IE and see if they're set according to your intentions. For instance,
something in settings was blocking me from playing Winamp files, with my
screen displaying exactly what you described seeing in your own case. A
message popped up telling me that in effect, Windows was protecting me
for myself. Of course, it didn't say it in those words but the file was
on my own website. Conversely, Windows played the same file using
Windows Media, without so much as a gentle warning. I was also
prevented from opening email attachments after installing the program
until I went in and changed that feature. So if you want to deal with as
few security issues as possible without the need to adjust settings,
Windows Media would probably be your best bet. It is my experience that
windows green lights it over Real, Winamp, or anything else. I know that
a lot of people in our group are not happy with Real, but I really don't
believe it's behind your problem here.

I usually do use winamp, but this is a subscription service I'd like to
use and am paying $9.95 a month for, I wish I could use something else
for that but if I don't get it resolved this weekend I'll call anc
cancel. It's a shame though, no point fighting with Comcast though if
it's on their end, I've been that road though if it's the cable modem I
can replace that, I'm renting one and have thought about buying my own
some time anyway.

Hi John,
I think you ought to uninstall it and cancil your subscription. I
think in many ways wmp is a lot better, I have used wmp on the NFB web
site playing their convention banquet speaches and they sound great.
Just uninstall it the whole damn thing and delete the icon off your
screen. Use winap, its a lot better and user friendlyer. Dave

I have never had to try to configure the keys, but I was able to do the
soundcard thing with Quicktime alternative very well. If it doesn't work in
the program, go to the controll pannel that comes with it, if one does that
is.
Thanks,

RE: rm files to wave

2004-09-24 Thread Aman Singer
Hi.
This can be done with three programs. The first, RM converter,
converts Real files to AVI files. For this program, go to
http://www.boilsoft.com
Then use AVIwav
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avi2wav.html
Which will convert the AVI to wav. Finally, use your favourite wav to MP3
converter, I recommend CDEX
http://cdex.n3.net
To convert the wav to mp3.
I've also heard a recommendation to use total recorder
http://www.totalrecorder.com
or another program that can record from the wav/stereo mix function of the
sound system, to record the sound from the sound card while it's playing.
This is good, however, only if you have another sound card, or a system
which you can dedicate to this, as it will tie up the sound card.
