Subject: Winamp 5.05 VS Real Player 10+

Hello List!
Recently I downloaded and installed the new Winamp 5.05 Player, following
a
review of the program by Dave Williams on ACB Radio. I should say that,
at
the same time, I have the latest Real Player 10player on my system as
well.

Now, I usually have Real Player play my CD's, MP3 files, Wave Files, and
radio stations. Winamp, I discovered, enjoys playing these programs as
well.
As soon as I installed Winamp, it took over my audio system and plays
everything for me, even though I have Real Player set to play most of
these
types of music.

I also have Windows Media Player 9 Series on my system, but it does not
work
like Winamp.

I like Real Player to play things such as Main Menu and other such
programs
because I can go back and forth easier. I like different programs for
different things to be played (Windows Media Player for ACB Radio; Real
Player for MP3, Wav, and songs stored on my hard drive).

My question to you guys is "How do I keep Winamp from taking over all of
my
system and playing everything? Even when I open up Real Player and set
preferences to play certain files, Winamp ignores this and plays things
anyway."

I like Winamp because of its radio broadcasting features and "sometimes
relative ease of use," but I want it to play what and when I want it to
play. Is there a way to make these players behave and play what we tell
them to play? I'd like to know how this is done.
Thanks again for your help.
Sincerely,
James Robinson

Re: split headphones

2004-09-27 Thread Dave Hutchins
Hi,
I know there is, you can get a adaptor from Radio Shack a Y adaptor, it
needs to be 1/8 inch to into your speaker jack, the other end needs to be 2
1/8 inch females for your head phones and whatever else your using for the
splitting. Dave Hutchins

Subject: split headphones

Hi everyone,
This question came up on another list and has sparked my interest because
I
will soon be in a similar situation.

The list is for blind transcriptionists. The person asking wanted to know
whether there are split headsets that would allow her to hear dictation
played through her soundcard in one ear and software speech in the other,
with separate volume controls for each as would be allowed with an
external
synthesizer. Assuming that such headphones exist and could be easily
configured to whatever PC setup, they might theoretically provide an
alternative to a hardware synthesizer. Someone directed her to Plintronic
headphones that will supposedly do this, but I don't exactly see how it is
possible. I mean, maybe I'm stupid, but on my system with a Soundblaster
Live card and dual speakers I don't think thechannels are split according
to
speaker, so how could this be accomplished via a headset without either
separate speakers or another soundcard, or am I missing something? In
fact,
most of the time I'm not even sure that both speakers are working, or at
least not to capacity, so is this really doable? For myself, I also have
a
four-channel stereo mixer which my techie son helped me to set up so that
I
can easily control my PC volume along with an external transcriber or
hardware synthe and hear them through one pair of headphones, but this
kind
of sounds like the opposite process, if that makes sense. This is
probably
audio 101 for most of you but I really would like to understand what is
possible. Please feel free to write me on or off list if you could either
point me to specific headphones for this and/or suggest how this is to be
done. Many thanks.

Susan

accelerated recording

2004-09-27 Thread Kurt E. Yount
According to the help file you are supposed to be able to record at up to
nine times normal speed with total recorder. However, it says that it
doesn't work if prerecord is checked. The gap thing is different. The
accelerated feature is supposed to be silent when it is working. Other
than that, I can't tell how to do it. Thanks for the suggestions. Kurt

Re: Winamp 5.05 VS Real Player 10+

2004-09-27 Thread Brian Lewis
In your case, you should go into Winamp's preferences and do not hit the
"select All" button. You should check what you want Winamp to play and
uncheck what you want Real to play. I guess they're both the same in that
they both want to play everything, but Winamp has that Select All button,
and you don't want that.

Hi there. Well, I'm actually using Windows ME. Furthermore, I'm using the Sigate

Yes, I do have real player accepting streams, since there are other sites I'm able to

I have an interesting problem. Everytime I try to bring up a feed from
www.cspan.com, I get an illegal operation occuring every time. I tried
this
with Real 1, and it would freez up my computer. So, I installed real
alternative. Same bloody problem. Now, I no it can be accessed, because I
have someone accessing that site with Real player all the time no problem.
But, when I try it, I get the illegal operation, or my pc freezes.

I'm actually trying to access the on demand stuff from CSpan.
