Re: New portable hard disk recorder from Edirol

2004-12-08 Thread Jerry Richer
Jim! Here's one of the articles.

San Francisco, CA - October 28, 2004 - EDIROL today announced the R-4, a 4
channel
portable digital recorder and wave editor - all in one convenient unit. The
R-4 is
uniquely designed to offer sound professionals a cost-effective,
high-quality solution
to multi-channel field recording.
The R-4 records directly to an internal 40GB hard drive providing storage
capacity
for 58 hours of 16-bit/44.1kHz stereo recording or over 17 hours at
24-bit/96kHz.
The R-4 can record at audio resolutions up to 24-bit/96kHz on all four
channels,
for total high-resolution multi-channel performance. The unit features a
built-in
limiter and 5 different dynamic processors; 3-Band Parametric EQ, 6-Band
Graphic
EQ, Noise Gate, Enhancer, and Compressor / Desser.
The R-4 includes a powerful array of input and output options including 4
XLR/TRS
combo microphone jacks with phantom power, RCA analog output, S/PDIF Coaxial
Input
and Output, built-in stereo microphones, built-in speakers, and a USB jack
for connection
to a computer. The USB2.0/1.1 port allows the computer to see the R-4 as a
USB Mass
Storage Device for high-speed Drag Drop access to files. Alternatively the
user
can use CompactFlashT memory to give data to colleagues or to transfer data
to equipment
not equipped with a USB interface.
The large LCD display features a Wave-Form Editor with a variety of
functions for
precision editing including trim, append, split, and merge. The R-4 can drop
markers
anywhere within an audio file to quickly skip back and forth to important
points.
It also offers A-B Repeat which allows users to loop any section of audio.
The R-4 includes a Pre-Record Function that is always capturing a few
seconds of
audio to the record buffer. This allows users to press record AFTER they
hear what
they want and still capture the material they really wanted. The R-4 also
includes
an L connector to allow any compatible video camera to sync start and stop
with the
R-4. The R-4 runs on either the included AC Adapter or 8 AA batteries and
includes
a Carrying Case with shoulder strap.
Edirol continues its audio leadership in 2004 and into 2005 with FireWire
and USB2.0/1.1
digital audio interfaces assisting computer-centric audio. It is a natural
progression
for EDIROL to now participate in recording markets that do not require
computer assistance.
The R-4 joins the recently announced R-1 - a handheld, solid-state MP3/WAVE
Recorder/Player
- in clearly establishing EDIROL's strength in the portable/field recording
market.
These two units satisfy many application areas including broadcasting,
location recording,
concerts and reporting.
EDIROL Corporation North America will be exhibiting the R-4 along with the
new R-1
Portable WAVE/MP3 Recorder at the AES show in San Francisco, Moscone
Convention Center,
Booth 1441, October 28-31, 2004.

2004-12-08 Thread Andrew Shipp
Hi all, I have reduced the speed of the burn to half, and it still want

speed by half when I did the CD's for you, I did say that I had turned it
down to a speed of 24, but it wasn't it was 16 speed instead, I just
wish I could sort this out, there isn't another computer in the house that
run the same speed as this one in regarding burning, so I am at a loss.

nero, burning with playlists problem

2004-12-08 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi. I am using Nero 6.6 under xp-sp2 and came across a problem and I'm
not sure how to fix this. Usually if I want to burn a cd from ogg or
mp3 files on my hard drive I start the new cd bit. Choose the settings
for the audio cd, then open explorer, go to the folder which contains
the files I want and arrow to the playlist. I copy it with control-c
and then alt-tab back into Nero and paste the playlist in. the
playlists are usually named something like _playlist.m3u. Most of the
time the playlist is read by Nero and the tracks from the playlist are
added in the correct order and then I can go right ahead and burn the
cd. The problem is that sometimes I get an error from Nero saying that
the wma files are protected and cannot be burned to cd. However when
this has happened it's been with only mp3 or ogg files. I don't have
windows media files on my system and none of my mp3 or ogg files are
protected.

Any ideas?

 Hi,
Do you have CD Creator on your new computer?
I am assuming that CD Creator is the same as Easy CD Creator. Did you use
Direct CD to save these MP3 files to CD?
I could be wrong, but I believe, if you did, you will need direct CD on
your new computer in order to access these files.
That is the only reason I could think of why you could not access these
 files.
 Hope this helps,
 Chris Chaffin
I am sorry that I can't quite explain what my problem is. Let me try
  again.

I have no difficulty playing MP3 files. I am using Windows media player
  10.

I copied these files to a computer from disk using MP3 format. Then I
created disks. I bought a new computer and cannot play the cads. I
used
cod creator to copy the files to disk. The problem I am having is that
I
can't play these disks on my new computer. I have considerable time in
these disks and would very much like to keep these files.

Sorry I rambled on for so long. However, I don't know how to explain my
problem so that it is understand

  Frankly.

  Hi.
If Windows XP doesn't play MP3 files, there must be something wrong
with the files themselves, and conversion will, most probably, not help

What happens when you try to play the files? Have you tried copying the
files to the hard drive and playing them from there? What program is
  being
  used to play the files?
