Re: connecting to a sound card
is it possible that you are using a receiver where the tape output is designed to be used as a monitor such that what comes out is then run back through the receiver? If so, turn off the monitor function and it should work well. The tape should still output to the computer without the feedback going back to the receiver. Just a possibility. More on AIWA boombox
Hello everyone, Well after receiving the manual, I looked over the entire thing. According to what I read, you can preset stations into the memory. Though to be perfectly honest, I'm still not exactly sure how. Mainly because I think I need someone to reorient me to some of the buttons again. Once this happens, then I think I might have a better understanding of what to do. The manual is just a bit confusing to me though, because it speaks about the remote, and gives the different functions for it as well. But I don't have a remote, and can't get one. The remote is used with a different model. I'm hoping that sense this manual actually covers two different models, that the storing of stations in memory, isn't meant for just the other model, and not mine. It doesn't say this, so I'm assuming not. And I would think that if these two models were that different that they wouldn't share the same manual. But I do know that when I looked at the other model, it actually stated that there were 30 presets. Where as I've never seen this mentioned about mine. At one point in the manual, I believe the boombox is described. You know, as to which buttons are where. It was rather confusing to read though, and it didn't make too much sense to me. It didn't seem laid out right or something. And I kept getting confused as to which buttons were for the remote, and which were for the boombox. However despite this confusion, I still found the manual helpful, and I'm glad to have it. Well, there was something else I had planned to comment on, but I've done forgot what it was. Anyway, I'm hoping to find out more about this radio soon. Re: More on AIWA boombox
Hi I would like to know how is the recording on that unit. Like when you make a tape off of a cd and then listen to it. Is there a lot of noise between tracks. Or does it make tapes well? Also how well does the radio receive stations. I know with the Sony boom boxes a lot of there radios are really not that good even for local stations. You don't get them in very well. Is this a double cassette unit or a single and can this play mp3 disks or just regular cd's. Anymore information that you can give me on this unit would be a big help. I maybe looking in to this unit to replace one that I already have that is ready to be toss out. Re: More on AIWA boombox
The manual is for the d51 and d55. The only difference between the models is the remote. You have 10 available AM presets and 20 available FM presets, although it does seem harder to use them without the remote, but that could be just that it isn't a good manual. - Original Message - From: "TerriStimmel" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, January 06, 2005 9:11 AM Subject: More on AIWA boombox Hello everyone, Well after receiving the manual, I looked over the entire thing. Re: More on AIWA boombox
Hi Tim and others, I was thinking that the only differences between the two models, was the remote. But I wasn't really sure. Thanks for that info. It does seem like some things are much easier to do, using the remote. But I think once you memorized the steps of adding stations to the memory, it wouldn't be too hard to do. However, I do think that the manual could be better written. Also, when I called AIWA the other night, one of the people I had talked to, wondered if it was possible to get a remote for model 51. He suggested that I call Sony parts, but he said I'd need the part number. He tried to look for it, but was unable to find it. I can't remember now if he was meaning the part number for the boombox, or the remote itself. But I'm thinking he meant the boombox. That would make more sense anyway. Re: More on AIWA boombox
Hello Casey and others, Well, I'll be glad to tell you what I can. I'm afraid that I can't give you an accurate description as to how the stations come in, because it's hard to get FM reception where I live. Some of the stations I can pick up do come in better than others, while some have a lot of static behind them. When I took the boombox over to a friend of mine, who lives more in the center of town, I did seem to get better reception. Though again, some stations came in better than others. I will say though, that I like this boombox better than the first one I tried. I had bought a Sony at first, and I think the reception I got on that was much worse. Also, I didn't feel that the tape deck worked as well on that one, as it does on the AIWA. There is only one tape deck in this unit. I think it works quite well. There is no motor noise with in my recordings, like I have experienced with other boomboxes. As a matter of fact, the tape deck is pretty quiet. When it records the radio, I do think the quality does come out just a bit lower in volume, but not by much at all. I record from the radio every week, and I think it records better than my old boombox ever did. And until I got this boombox, I really didn't think that recording from radio could get any nicer. Now as for recording from CD to tape, I can't tell you anything about that. I know this boombox can do that, but I've yet learned how to do it. As for whether or not the CD player can play mp3 CD's, I believe so. However, I'm not 100 percent sure about this. If I had any of those CD's though, I'd be more than happy to find out for you. But unfortunately, I don't have any. It states in the manual that it will play CD's, CDR's and CDRW's. Well, I hope this has been of some help to you. I appologize that I wasn't able to answer all of your questions as well as I would have liked to. This boombox is very nice in my opinion, and it was definitely worth the money. I paid about $90 for it, but I believe the price has actually gone down just a bit now. Re: More on AIWA boombox
Hello Terri, I was just thinking of something which the C Crain Company does that just maybe you could encourage Aiwa to do. I have two C Crain products, their C Crain plus radio, and their Versa Corder. For both of those products, they have a manual on tape authored by a blind person which describes what all the buttons do, and where they are positioned on the product. Apparently they have quite a following of blind persons, and thought it prudent to acomadate us in that manner. The instructions are not an exact copy of the print manual, but specific for the blind to be able to use the products with as much ease as possible. So give the folks at Aiwa a call, and ask them to do the same, especially since you are promoting that product for use in the blind comunity. Re: More on AIWA boombox
Hello Josh, Now that's really cool that the C Crain company does that. I think you have a good idea, and I will look into this. I have been interested in C Crain products for a long time. And one of these days I'd like to own one of their radios. But they are a bit pricey for me right now. One of these days though, I do plan to have something. I'm actually quite interested in the Versa Corder. Do you find it pretty accessible? I mean, can you set it up to record a radio show, if you aren't going to be there to manually set it up to record? I'm quite curious to see just how well it does pick up AM stations. Thanks a lot for the information. I will see if I can talk to someone at AIWA, and see what I can do. I think it would be really good if their manuals were made more accessible. Hi Tom, No, unfortunately it doesn't have microphone inputs. The only jack it has on it, is an earphone jack. I think they are making most boomboxes like this. Re: More on AIWA boombox
Hi Josh, Where are these blind friendly manuals available? I've got the two products you've mentioned and several others from c crane. Rusty > At 11:29 AM 1/6/2005, Josh N Rivera spake thusly:- Hello Terri, I was just thinking of something which the C Crain Company does that just maybe you could encourage Aiwa to do. Fwd: Cepstral Breaks the 2 MB Voice Barrier: TinyText-to-Speech Voices Poised to Make Big Waves
*** BEGIN FORWARDED MESSAGE *** From: Leon Gilbert [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Blind News Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Market Wire (Press Release) Wednesday, January 05, 2005 Cepstral Breaks the 2 MB Voice Barrier: Tiny Text-to-Speech Voices Poised to Make Big Waves PITTSBURGH, PA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 01/05/2005 -- Cepstral LLC announced a new software release capable of producing fully general, unit selection Text-to-Speech (TTS) voices that are under two megabytes in size on the eve of the Consumer Electronics Show, CES, in Las Vegas. Cepstral's new Swift 3.1 engine is the first high-quality human sounding voice based on unit selection technology to reach this threshold. "This puts high quality Text-to-Speech within reach for consumer electronics manufacturers enabling them to place features onboard such as talking e-mail, talking e-books, spoken reminders, or talking directions," said CEO and co-founder Kevin Lenzo. By scaling high-quality voices down to 2 megabytes, they can potentially fit inside today's compact consumer electronics. This is important because the features afforded by TTS solve several real problems. For instance, there are safety concerns over portable devices being used while operating a vehicle. Text-to-Speech facilitates connectivity by offering a hands-free, eyes-free interface which in turn increases the utility and value of such devices. Devices that help people manage dynamic data are especially well suited for TTS. A synthetic voice offers unconstrained content delivery so whether the device is an email tool, navigation tool, learning tool, or bio-metric tool, Cepstral's TTS engine can speak the results. While tiny in size, these software voices can say anything. Currently, they are available only as male and female US English voices, but will soon be available in a half-dozen languages. Cepstral's voices are platform independent, running on Windows, WinCE, Linux, and Palm powered devices. The voices are scalable by design and can be tailored to meet specific size requirements anywhere from 2 MB and higher. "The bottom line is Swift 3.1 is the smallest high-quality, unit selection TTS engine on the market. Even at that, the Swift engine outperforms competing products that are hundreds of times its size in terms of platform independence, speed, and pronunciation accuracy," said Mr. Lenzo. Cepstral was founded in 2000 by Dr. Alan W. Black and Kevin Lenzo, two renowned speech synthesis scientists from Carnegie Mellon University. The company specializes in producing high-quality, small-footprint TTS for the embedded electronics markets. Hello again Terri, You can most definitely record radio programs with the Versa Corder in your absence. But the thing that has to be programmed is the radio, and with the Versa Corder connected to it, you can, on slow speed that is, record I think up to four hours of a radio program. Russell, All you have to do is call C Crain on their 800 number, and ask for the tapes, and they will be glad to send them to you free of charge. If any blind person orders products from this company, especially the C Crain Plus radio and the Versa Corder, just let them know you are visually impaired, and to please include the taped manuals with the order, and they will do so. boomboxes in general
I am looking for a boombox or mini stereo that plays mp3's and dvds. In australia we have such a thing made by Dick Smith. It plays standard cds, mp3's and dvd's. It is really a small amplifier/tuner/cd/dvd player, but I am looking for something similar I could use in America. a couple of questions
Two questions really. Firstly is there a way to save or bookmark stations in Windows Media, as there is in Real One and Winamp? Failing that can I play Windows Media stations on RealPlayer or Winamp? Cambridge Soundworks is alive and well. As for the hybrid animal, I don't know. You might want to check their website. Or call them. I don't have or know the link or phone number. Re: Hooking Up An FM Transmitter
Hi Rusty. Be careful mate! I bought a second hand one from a list which deals with second hand equipment, and was told that the range was very good. I was hoping to read my mail from the garden but could hardly get further than my study doorway. I paid £35. I think that if you wish something to get out of the house, you will have to pay a lot lot more. Good luck though, perhaps you can let us know how you get on. Best wishes. I was sent model 1 instead of 3 hence very limited transmission. The good wireless keyboard confilicts less with a regular keyboard plugged in using jaws than any other wireless I have tried. The C-Crane transmitter transmits through a steel skyscraper wall extremely well, having tested every brand on the market which did not give the exellent results of this combination. One might give the ebay model a big detour. - Original Message - From: "Kelly Sapergia" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, January 02, 2005 2:17 PM Subject: Re: Hooking Up An FM Transmitter > Hi Tom, > You'll have to plug the transmitter into where the speaker goes on your > sound card.
