Re: Midi Files?
Ibby! I convert MIDI to WAV by playing the MIDI file and recording the output with Sound Forge. MIDI and WAV are totally unrelated file types. Please find following two posts I wrote to this list in the past. there are programs to convert MP3 and WAV files to MIDI but as I understand it they are very inaccurate. MIDI is nothing like MP3 or WAV. The formats are totally alien to each other. MP3 and WAV files are audio files but MIDI files are series of instructions telling a sound module of some sort what instrument to play, what notes to play, for how long, how loud etc. Converting an MP3 or WAV file to MIDI would be analogous to unbaking a cake and putting all the ingredients back into their storage bins. You'd even have to uncook the eggs and put them back into their shells. Sequencing is the process of recording, editing and playing back music instructions (Musical Instrument Digital Interface, MIDI) that tell a MIDI instrument what to play. MIDI instructions include such information as what note to play, how hard to play it, how long to play it, when to play it etc. In music production it's like the difference between having a cake and baking a cake. When you play music live you have a cake. When you play music through MIDI you are creating a cake in real time from the recipe. You can always change the recipe and bake another cake but when the cake is done you can't undo it and change it. MIDI information can be entered through a computer keyboard, voice commands, through a MIDI musical instrument in real or step time or through a scanner scanning a musical score. Through sequencing one can construct an entire musical score by themselves. Many use sequencing as a method of providing virtual musicians in a band. Many people now perform in clubs and restaurants with a sequencer as their only other band member. They might play a guitar and sing but what you hear is guitar, voice, bass, piano, horns etc. To learn everything you'd ever want to know about sequencing, join the MIDI-MAG list where blind musicians discuss the accessibility of music and audio production equipment and software. Re: Audio Weather
Hi all, I guess I missed something because I did not find the WeatherAloud program at JFWLite. I did find the helpful hint as to how it worked. But I also found the website and am going to purchase the program. Thanks much. Kris H. - Original Message - From: doc [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. DVD Playing
When I play a DVD movie I notice that the volume is somewhat down. Is this normal? I have had a poke round through the configuration menu and there doesn't appear to be a way to increase the volume either in Nero Showtime or PowerDVD. Re: FROM HAVING THE SMALLEST IN THE MARKET TO HAVING THE SMALLEST OF THE SMALLEST IN THE MARKET
Hey, Does this thing for Linux that you use allow you to transfer data recorded from aHiMD Disk? One of the HiMD machiens is the MZNHF800. Thanks, Nick - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2005 8:28 AM Subject: Re: FROM HAVING THE SMALLEST IN THE MARKET TO HAVING THE SMALLEST OF THE SMALLEST IN THE MARKET You're quite right! the point I'm making is that you shouldn't need to convert from MP3 to ATRAC, the player should handle MP3 instantly and without problme, the only thing you can do with MP3 files on this unit is to store them on the in-built hard drive, you can't play them unless you convert to ATRAC first therefore, you do lose quality when converting from one format to the other. As I said previously, this is just such a waste of time compared to other devices such as IPOD and IRIVER which just let you transfer MP3 files etc ready to be played at the press of a button. Now another point that springs to mind. I have a Sony Minidisc machine here which came with the Sonic Stich software. I found this to be rather inaccessible as it used BMP graphic images to display menus etc so I'm wondering just how bad the Sonic Stich software supplied with the player under discussion is. I'm lucky! I use LINUX to do all the tasks I want from my Minidisc player and (I suspect) that much the same sort of LINUX software is available for this player too! but if you're using Windows XP etc then I suggest you don't have much hope in doing the MP3/ATRAC conversion the player requires anyhow, anyone else got thoughts on this? I'm sure we all remember the Sony walkmans cassette player? Well you would have thought that Sony's dominance in this feeld would have continued into the computer age, apparently not. I've just read about Sony's new product which they claim will rival the Apple Ipod, if Sony truly believe that the IPOD is threatened by the new Sony wonder then I suggest they think again. It is accepted as STANDARD PRACTISE these days that the consumer should be able to download MP3 files and transfer them to a portable device (as MP3 files) but Sony's new walkman player doesn't follow this simple principle, you need to use the supplied software to take the MP3's from your computer, transfer them to the walkman unit and then have them converted to Sony's ATRAC compression system. Yes, you can transfer MP3 files to the walkman units hard drive leave them there but that won't do you any good as they cannot be played in native MP3 mode, what an absolute waste of time. Conversion takes 3 minutes per file so speed is a big problem here, with the Apple IPOD, its just a matter of using the ITUNES software supplied to transfer the MP3 files from your PC or download them from the net, that's the end of the process and they're ready to be played instantly. Another problem with the new Sony Hard Drive walkman is power, the only way this beast can be powered is from its power cradle which plugs into the AC mains outlet, the IPOD can be powered in a variety of ways including from a computers USB port but none (to my knowledge) have car adaptors available. -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: PGP 8.1 Comment: A Member Of The TFT BBS Digital Security Initiative iQA/AwUBQe7F5ilBPqY64aUBEQIxswCfSBs07D/Rskzrje0iUZGUKT1R/aAAnR6O jQc2qxuatZJeJdNUH/22syuP =Xb95 -END PGP SIGNATURE- Dane Trethowan http://www.tft-bbs.com/grtdane/ Attachments: (1) http://www.tft-bbs.com/Attachments/grtdane/mdf512.attmdf5 1 2.att 688 bytes No virus found in this incoming message.
