Re: Apple Ipod Shuffle accessible?
On Behalf Of Debbie Crafts Sent: June 12, 2004 1:23 PM To: 'PC audio discussion list. ' Subject: RE: MP3 Ipod Hello, I won an Ipod at work and have been able to get it somewhat functional. The first step was to ditch the Itunes software, which I found totally unusable. There is a peace of software called Anapod Explorer put out by RedChair software which works like a dream. The URL is www.redchairsoftware.com and It organizes the Ipod in to folders and puts an icon on your desktop which you basically access like just another folder in My Computer. You can either copy/paste or send-to files to this window just like you can a folder on your hard drive, and Anapod even lets you manipulate playlists in an intuitive manner. It doesn't insist on synchronizing the Ipod with a library on your computer as Itunes apparently does. The documentation is called the Omnitome and is on their website. In terms of using the device itself, I found that the remote control is far the easiest interface. There are definite buttons for play/pause, previous and next. You press down on the prev. and next buttons to fast forward or rewind through a selection. I have had limited success in using the unit itself by counting the audible clicks emitted by the Ipod when you access the touch wheel. The second selection on the menu is playlists and then you touch the middle button for enter. If you numerically sequence your playlists in Anapod, you can then count clicks to the playlist you want, enter, then either touch the top of the wheel to play or use the play button on the remote. Not the easiest interface in the world to use, but with a little elbow grease, it can be made to cooperate a little. I highly recommend that anyone interested in using an Ipod check out Anapod explorer. I also found it essential to sit with a sighted person enough to get some guidance in figuring out the interface. Hope these remarks are helpful. Debbie ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What is Album Wrap?
Hello everyone, As my subject says, I'd like to know what Album Wrap is. How does it work? And why would you want to use it? I recently got some CD's, and these files are MP3's. The person used Album Wrap I believe. The files say, ALBW in them, so I'm assuming that means Album Wrap. Anyway, when I try to play these CD's, they will play. However, in certain spots on the albums, my CD player makes this odd noise, and not like the CD's are messed up either. These are live albums, and I hear this noise when the people clap after a song. Also, I had one of these albums on my computer, and when I play it using Real Player, the audio stops whenever the people clap. I don't know if it would start back up on it's own or not, because I never wait for it to. I just rewind it back a bit, then fast forward threw the clapping, until the next song. So, can I change the format of these files, using Goldwave? I want to keep them as mp3's, and I'd like to keep the album as a whole, sense it is live. I'm just not too sure what the best way to do that is. Any help on this will be much appreciated. Thank you, Terri ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: Apple Ipod Shuffle accessible?
hi The more information out there, the better. Don't ever apologize for a lengthy post if it's helpful to someone else, and this sure looks promising. I'm kind of thinking about also looking into a MuVo from Creative labs. From what I can tell, it seems a bit more inexpensive, and if I don't have to use any special software to transfer files from my computer to the MuVo, so much the better. At 06:34 AM 1/23/2005, you wrote: Hi Chris, I got an ipod just after Christmas and -- with a little help from some listers -- I am able to transfer music and manage it once it's on the ipod. I bought a program called Anapod explorer (from a company called Red Chair Software) that allows me to access the contents of the ipod in a tree format just like windows explorer. The program is pretty cheap (around $25) and works great with jfw. The one drawback with anapod is that you need another program to do the ripping and encoding of the tracks. Red Chair Software recommends a program called audio grabber but I'm using Itunes to do the import of tracks mostly because it's ultimately easier despite the unfriendliness of the app in general. The long and short of it is that you can absolutely transfer and manage your music on the ipod. I love the ipod and am not sorry I bought one. My understanding of the ipod shuffle is that, unlike the ipod, you have to load the music in the order in which you want to hear it. In other words I don't think you can do playlists or random play. That's not an issue for me since I load the songs in my preferred order anyway. Sorry for the lengthy post but I hope it was helpful. Hi folks I just returned to the list after a long absence, so it's cool to be back here. Since I just got back, I haven't seen any messages, but I wanted to see if anyone had heard about the upcoming Ipod Shuffle, and if it could possibly be accessible. I'm sure that the unit itself is pretty easy to use, but of course my concern is the ability to transfer files to it. I understand that because it's from Apple, they're of course including the Apple iTunes software, which by all accounts is not accessible with JAWS. I'm just wondering if anyone has developed any other software that may work in place of iTunes, and if so where it can be gotten ahold of and any other info? I'd really love to have one of these Ipod Shuffles, because the price is certainly something I can afford, but if it's not going to be easy to use, I'd rather wait for something better. I've heard about something called Rockbox for the Archos mp3 players, but I'm not sure if that would also work with the Apple Ipods. I would suspect not but I wanted to see if I could find out anything. Any info is most definitely appreciated! and once again if this has been discussed ad nausium on the list my apologies. thanks! Panasonic Accessible Products
Hi Ray. I forwarded your info about Panasonic accessible products to a friend of mine. I thought you might be interested, and I thought I'd share her letter to Mr. Wenner. Dear Mr. Wegner, I am the current first vice president of the Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired, an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind. I recently received a email copy of a letter from a Mr. Slaton that he sent to you regarding accessibility issues and Panasonic. In your response you asked him to let you know if he could come up with information about the number of people who would be interested in an accessible VCR/DVD player. There are so many people across America who are blind or visually impaired that I believe that such a product would be very welcome. It could be marketed through mail order companies who serve people who are blind along with mainstream stores such as J R Music. IN the past six years Sony offered an accessible talking CD/clock radio, the Sony Sound Machine, which sold for about $130 and was a huge hit among those who have vision problems. Now we have an accessible cell phone, the LGVX4500 which uses a software upgrade to make it accessible. Michigan State University's Electrical Engineering Department recently used its students to develop circuit boards to allow a Whirlpool digital Duet Series washer and dryer to speak so it can be used by someone without any vision. My sister was the recipient of the original prototype of these. These types of engineering projects are often wonderful challenges for students in engineering programs in colleges and universities across America. And of course there is always the possibility of collaborating with companies such as Freedom Scientific, one of the leading developers of talking screen readers and large print computer software for people with vision and reading disabilities. As the babyboomers age, blindness is becoming more common in the form of macular degeneration. I believe it is to every company's advantage to think of the millions of people in America who require adaptations to their products. An affordable talking VCR/DVD player/recorder has been long overdue. It would be nice if you could develop an inexpensive talking universal remote control so that those of us who already own your products could use all of their features. I hope that your company might consider such products, along with others. It is also very helpful to have instruction manuals in alternative formats as well, such as recorded on cassette. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like any further information about ways in which Panasonic can provide blindness accessibility to its products. I have always found your electronic products to be very reliable and own several of them. Thank you for your time. Re: contact info for panasonic
Hi, This is my take on the DVD and VCR and receiver issue. Per the DVD, if when using a menu of optionsto downarrow to particularly ifthere are 2 columns, it should read 1 of 6 and when you down arrow, it says 2 of 6. My DVD remote has 27 buttons. Labelling the 10 x button andthe zoom would be great. Also the DVDs when they are placed side by side in thetray are hard to decipher sincet he tray keeps revolving. Imagine when 20 DVDs sit in that tray what fun we might have. Per the receiver, if there are bands of presets, saying Band A versus Band B could be very helpful as my receiver has 6 different bands of preset radiostations. The VCR thing to me needsto read the imputed numbers like for clock and time set and that is about it as I see it. I mention the multiple DVD issue as I have an earlier SONY CD player which holds200 andthe latest VD/DVD player requires visual reading for using the remote control. All Ih aveto do is type ina number, but SONY brokethat when they cameo ut with their 300 DVD/ CD player requiring vision to select item to playfor enjoyment. getting dvd to play all the way through/Re: DVD Playing
I am new to playing DVD's and have both Power DVD and Windows Media Player which will play these. I tried using Power DVD and am not sure of the Jaws commands to make it play all the way through. This DVD has several episodes on it and I thought there might be away to make it play all the episodes, as you'd play all tracks on a CD by simply hitting play. But only one episode plays and it stops. Are there some good tutorials for Power DVD working with Jaws and what key commands to use? ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
