Subject: Re: Radio Stations In Winamp?

Hi Dave
That's not exactly what he wants to do.
What he wants to do is to increase the number of stations the Winamp
library shows, and this is easily done. To increase the number of stations
found in the Winamp library, follow these steps.

**be sure to write this down for future reference** can't forget to
mention that at the very beginning so you don't forget, and many people
do, which necessitates asking the same question over again. So copy this
down, put it in a place you'll remember and then if you need it again you
can go find it.
Ok, on with the steps to increase the number of stations.

1. Launch Winamp. The version I'm running is 5.07, but this works for
versions from 5.04 on up to 5.08. so if you have one of those, these
directions will work. If you have an earlier version, the directions are
slightly different but we're focusing on the current version here.

2. With Winamp open on your screen, press control plus p for preferences.
3. Tab until you hear, tree view, or in JAWS it will say, tree 1 tree
view and the current position where you are. It remembers the last place
you were, so it could say any number of things. To get ourselves a
starting point, press your home key to take you to the top.

4. press your down arrow key until you hear, media library,6 of 8.
With other screenreaders other than jaws you may not hear the position of
items, but as long as you hear, media library, you're in the right place.
5. Now here's where things get interesting. When you're positioned on
the media library option, press your tab key twice. Pressing it once will
take you to the close button, and once again you'll land in a list view of
views in the media library. The first one in the list is internet radio.
Check boxes will show if it will appear in this view, and the check box
should be checked. so in JAWS for example, you should hear, manage
streaming media views list view,1 of 4. For some reason, it won't tell you
that internet radio is the first one, but it is.

6.
To get to the button where you change the number of streams listed in the
library, press your tab key twice. Pressing it once will land you on a
button where you can specify ratings for different things which doesn't
apply here. Pressing it once more will take you to a button that says,
modify preferences button. This is where you want to be, so press your
space bar on this.

7. On the next screen, you should see an edit box, and it should say, limit
number of listings fetch to, and the default number here is 500. You can
put any number here you like, so in there I put some rediculously high
number like 25000. This makes sure that all the streams out there will be
fetched. note that when Winamp does this, it may take a bit of time,
especially if you're on a slower connection.
there are a few other radio buttons here for determining how often it
grabs new streams, so you can set that how you like, or leave it at the
defaults. Then simply press the ok button to close this dialogue, and
then the close button. You can then go back to the media library in
Winamp, and then press the refresh button. This button becomes an abort
button while it's downloading the stations. Hope this helps explain
things.

I find them in a very small in number but I heard there are thousands of

Hi Dale,
It will work, and although I'm not running 2 soundcards on my XP machine, I
am on my 98SE machine.
There are other people running 2 cards on their XP machines.
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish,
it may be simple, or more involved.
If you want to contact me off-list, I'll be glad to help out.

Hi,

I know there have been postings by listers who want to run two sound
cards simultaneously. Until now I wasn't interested in following the
Conversation.

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz internal sound card; this past weekend,
I bought a Creative MP3Plus USB external card. I can't figure out how to
make them both play and/or record as I wish. I find it hard to believe
that Windows XP (Home) won't allow two simple devices to operate
independently and simultaneously.
Am I wrong?
I'd appreciate some enlightenment.

Thanks.

Re: studio recorder.

2005-01-27 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
It does work with music, but its settings and features are really geared for
voice recording. It has features such as sentence detection which are handy
for navigating through spoken word files. It does have a nice clean
interface, making it pretty easy to learn and use. And of course, it was
designed especially with screen access in mind, so there's no question about
it being speech friendly.

Re: Delleeting a contact in Skype

2005-01-27 Thread shawn klein
You have to find your contact list by control tabbing
and routing your mouse pointer to PC, it won't tell
you what tab your on so you have to go through them
till you find your list, then you use the mouse keys
to look through the list there. Use the page down key
to scroll it down another screen and look through
those. You could have as many as 4 or 5 alphabetically
organized groups of contacts going down, starting with
the one's you have on line, then starting with a again
as you go through your off line contacts, the last
group hasn't authorized you. When you finally find the
contact you want, right click with the numpadd star.
Then you have a context menu and delete from contacts
is in there. Move through that with the PC cursor and
hit enter on delete, and then yes.

2005-01-27 Thread russell Bourgoin
Wow!! You are absolutely right, jerry. There's no way, as others here
have alleged, that 4.5 is better than any other version. I'd say that
editing in sf 7.0b is a blazing piece of sound editing software. Plus, the
added features are quite nice. I agree that there are some things that
don't work too well, specifically, the equalizers, all three of them!

Keep us appraised as you learn more details re the sf 8 release.

Hi,
Sure. Roxio and nero will both let you burn directories, excuse
me, folders to a data dvd, just as you could with a cd. You'll be able to
put somewhere around six hundred tunes on a dvd, depending on your
compression rate.

Billy. Making an mp3 dvd is just like making an mp3 cd. It's basically
a data disk with mp3 files on it. If you already have your mp3s ripped
separately into individual songs then simply copy them over in the
folder arrangement you have. I'm hoping this answers your question.

Re: how do you make c dex create artist folder

2005-01-27 Thread Raul A. Gallegos

Joanne. Press f4 to go into the options. From here left arrow twice to
the filenames tab. Tab once and you will be on an edit box. If you
want a folder with the artist and a subfolder with the album and then
the songs in there have it use:

%1\%2\%1 - %4

If you just want artist and no album title then use something like:

%1\%1 - %4

The compressed audio file when using %1 - %4 will be artist name a dash,
and then the title of the song. If you want the track number use %7.
So it may look like this:

%1\%2\%7 - %4

or

%1\%7 - %4

Or even

%1\%2\%7 - %1 - %4

Hope this helps.

HI Guys, just fitted a new DVD Burner. This is my question:
When I'm burning MP3 files onto the DVD disks. Can I burn the files as
albums. What I mean by that: Can the MP3 files be burned as full albums, and
not single mp3's.
I take it, you can burn more than one album onto the DVD disk.

how do you make c dex create artist folder

2005-01-27 Thread Joanne
I cannot find this in the f4 options menu but know it can be done. I want c
dex to go ahead and, when taking tracks off cd's, make a folder within the
folder where the songs are going. It's happened before by accident and at
that time I didn't want c dex to do this, but I think it may be helpful now
and hope someone can help. What it did was, at the bottom of my music
folder, the newly-acquired tracks from c dex would be in an artist folder of
its own. Please let me know how to reinstate it so c dex makes these artist
folders while extracting.

currently using their DSP 300 model and am very pleased with it. I
previously tried about four headsets of the type that plug into the
soundcard, made by different manufacturers and found faults with all
of
them. Using a SoundBlaster Live card, I wasn't able to produce
sufficient
volume from the microphones when recording no matter what I tried.
Another
thing to bear in mind with these types of microphone is: if the
sound on the
computer is built in to the motherboard, avoiding the need for a
soundcard,
noise from fans etc may be picked up by the microphone. This does
not seem
to happen with USB types.
I would suggest you purchase a USB headset. I must have spent sixty

seventy pounds on the other type. Money I could have used towards
obtaining

Good luck.

I use the RFBD Victor Reader Soft.
! I've had installation problems on two different computers but RFBD
always
straightened them out. You're only allowed two simultaneous
installations.
! When using a book that has been produced on more than one CD there's no
good way to get the whole thing on your computer as one book.
! It doesn't Fast Forward or Rewind smoothly enough to make these
functions
effective in searching through an audio book.
! The most annoying thing about it is wading through all the legal
Copy-Rite
nonsense every time you start it, listening to the disclaimers and
entering
your password.
! I haven't tried but I'm sure you can read other DAISY books with it.
! It's certainly well worth $79.00.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the info. I really wanted to know if it was worth the money and
from what you say, it is.

I'll most likely buy the software but I was surprised that it wasn't
available as a download.

Best,

The big problem is that most stand alone dvd players will not play them.
Convert the mp3 to ac3 which also is a compressed format.
And make the dvd as dvd audio.

Billy. Making an mp3 dvd is just like making an mp3 cd. It's basically
a data disk with mp3 files on it. If you already have your mp3s ripped
separately into individual songs then simply copy them over in the
folder arrangement you have. I'm hoping this answers your question.

I use a Plantronics headset microphone combo. If you go to the Skype
store they refer you to a supplier. I got this one for about $30.00.
It is not the usb type but works super plugged into my second sound card
on my machine. I also use this same one for Internet radio
broadcasting. No problems. The USB ones are great too but cost
slightly more. When you think about it though, the ease you get from
simply plugging it into your usb port is worth the 2 or 3 extra dollars.
This should work unless of course you have no usb ports which is getting
to be rare now-a-days.

Re: microphones for computer

2005-01-27 Thread Robert Stokes
Plantronics supply a range of USB Headsets incorporating a microphone. I'm
currently using their DSP 300 model and am very pleased with it. I
previously tried about four headsets of the type that plug into the
soundcard, made by different manufacturers and found faults with all of
them. Using a SoundBlaster Live card, I wasn't able to produce sufficient
volume from the microphones when recording no matter what I tried. Another
thing to bear in mind with these types of microphone is: if the sound on the
computer is built in to the motherboard, avoiding the need for a soundcard,
noise from fans etc may be picked up by the microphone. This does not seem
to happen with USB types.

I would suggest you purchase a USB headset. I must have spent sixty or
seventy pounds on the other type. Money I could have used towards obtaining
a top of the range USB headset.

Good luck.

Re: Radio Stations In Winamp?

2005-01-27 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi Dave
That's not exactly what he wants to do.
What he wants to do is to increase the number of stations the Winamp
library shows, and this is easily done. To increase the number of stations
found in the Winamp library, follow these steps.

**be sure to write this down for future reference** can't forget to mention
that at the very beginning so you don't forget, and many people do, which
necessitates asking the same question over again. So copy this down, put it
in a place you'll remember and then if you need it again you can go find it.

3. Tab until you hear, tree view, or in JAWS it will say, tree 1 tree view
and the current position where you are. It remembers the last place you
were, so it could say any number of things. To get ourselves a starting
point, press your home key to take you to the top.

4. press your down arrow key until you hear, media library,6 of 8.
With other screenreaders other than jaws you may not hear the position of
items, but as long as you hear, media library, you're in the right place.
5. Now here's where things get interesting. When you're positioned on the
media library option, press your tab key twice. Pressing it once will take
you to the close button, and once again you'll land in a list view of views
in the media library. The first one in the list is internet radio. Check
boxes will show if it will appear in this view, and the check box should be
checked. so in JAWS for example, you should hear, manage streaming media
views list view,1 of 4. For some reason, it won't tell you that internet
radio is the first one, but it is.

This makes sure that all the streams out there will be
fetched. note that when Winamp does this, it may take a bit of time,
especially if you're on a slower connection.
there are a few other radio buttons here for determining how often it grabs
new streams, so you can set that how you like, or leave it at the
defaults. Then simply press the ok button to close this dialogue, and
then the close button. You can then go back to the media library in Winamp,
and then press the refresh button. This button becomes an abort button
while it's downloading the stations. Hope this helps explain things.

Subject: Radio Stations In Winamp?

Hi.
How can I get the internet radio stations in Winamp5.8, Please? What I
mean is, if I go to the library and look for the internet radio stations,
I find them in a very small in number but I heard there are thousands of
them. How can I increase that number, please?

Thanks!

silent .wav files

2005-01-27 Thread Randy Tijerina
hello friends.
i will try to explain this to you.
i ripped tracks form a cd that i have.
they are sound effects and they are kind of in a funny way.

For example track one will have more than just one sound track 2 and so on with
silence of course.
What i did was use GoldWave to split this in to separate .wav files.

There are a few files that ended up being silent.
What did i do wrong?
or can anyone help me?
i have the entire huge cd in a big .wav file that i can gladly send to someone
off list through you send it.
thanks to all of you and hope Jeff that you did not mind mentioning you send
it. Randy

Re: goldwave

2005-01-27 Thread Samuel
I think it is Window Eyes that is the problem. I suggest that when you get
to about 80 percent, you shut down Window Eyes. Samuel.

Subject: goldwave

Hi
I've joined the list again after a long time away.
I've been trying to load files in to goldwave to convert to another format.
When
the file opens I get the message "deflashing to disk". When it gets to 99
percent,
my computer locks up and I can't do anything. I've got about 14 gigs on my
hard
drive and the files I'm working with are less than a megabyte in length.
I'm running
win 98se gw version 4.26 and wineyes 4.5
Any suggestions what to do please?
Teri
