Re: Accessible Tuners

2005-01-30 Thread ron scott
Hi Mate, I would suggest , if the tuner is on a computer, even if it is
accessible, how practical is it?
If we are talking about going out to gig's,?Like you said in a earlier post,
a tuning fork fits in a pocket. LOL
If we are talking electric guitar, there is head phones, with a built in
amp, that will let you hear the guitar, I don't know to what volume, they
seem to be hard to find though, it's mostly steel players that seem to use
them at all but then sighted people can use those quick tune things that
either show a green light, or a red one, or if it's away off no light: or so
I am told. LOL
If anyone is interested, I can give them a couple of places to look for a
amp-head set.

Hi Kevin.

I've pasted some notes below on ripping music to your hard drive using
cDEX.
If you need any additional assistance, my e-mail address is at the end
of
this message.

Using CDEX to rip CD tracks to your hard drive

1.. Place your CD into any of your CD-ROM drives. Hold down the shift
key
when the CD drawer is being closed to prevent the CD starting to play.
2.. Start CDEX from the desktop or programs menu.
3.. Your screen reader will start to announce the track listing of the
CD
as “Audio Track 1, Audio Track 2”, etc.
4.. CDEX can get the artist, album title and track titles from the
CDDB by
connecting to the internet but you will first need to make the following
changes:
1.. Press F4 to open the Settings dialogue
2.. Press shift tab and then right arrow until you reach the Remote
CDDB
tab
3.. Press tab until you reach a control requesting you to enter your
e-mail address
4.. Key in your e-mail address and then tab to OK
5.. If you’d like CDEX to get CD information automatically each time
you
start CDEX, then check the auto connect checkbox.
6.. Press enter on the OK button to confirm your changes
5.. To retrieve artist name, album title and track titles from the
CDDB,
do the following:
1.. Press alt + D to enter the CDDB menu
2.. Press down arrow until you reach “Read remote CDDB”
3.. Press enter and CDEX will query the CDDB and pull back the
artist
name, album title and track titles
4.. If you’d like to store this information so that you don’t need
to
retrieve from the CDDB again for this CD, press alt + D to enter the
CDDB
menu and then arrow down until you reach “save to local CDDB”. Pressing
enter at this point will save the CD information on your computer.
6.. CDEX can normalise the volume of all tracks being ripped. This
will
result in your tracks being set to the same volume even if they are
taken
from CD’s where the volumes vary considerably. To make CDEX normalise
the
volume of ripped tracks, make the following changes:
1.. Press F4 to enter the Settings dialogue
2.. You will probably be placed on the encoder tab but if not, press
shift and tab and then use the right and left arrow keys until you reach
the
encoder tab
3.. Press tab until you reach the control for “on-the-fly MP3
encoding”
and press the spacebar to uncheck this
4.. Press tab until you reach the encoder tab again and use the left
arrow key until you reach the general tab
5.. Press tab until you reach the control “normalise volume” and
press
the spacebar to check this
6.. Press tab until you reach OK and press enter to confirm your
changes
7.. To rip all of the tracks to WAV format, press F8.
8.. To rip all of the tracks to MP3 format, press F9.
9.. If you don’t want all tracks to be ripped from the CD, use the up
and
down arrow keys in the list of track titles until you reach the track
you
want before pressing F8 or F9. If you want to select a number of
tracks,
you can do this using the standard windows keystrokes of shift with the
up
or down arrow to select contiguous tracks and control with the up and
down
arrow keys to unselect tracks.
10.. You can change the default folder where CDEX will output your
ripped
tracks by making the following changes:
1.. Press F4 to enter the settings dialogue
2.. Press shift and tab and then left arrow until you reach the
filenames tab
3.. Press tab until you reach the WAV>MP3 control
4.. Route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor using the insert + JAWS
cursor keystroke
5.. Use the keystroke insert + left arrow to locate the button to
the
right of the WAV>MP3 control
6.. Press the left mouse button on the numpad to activate this
button
7.. Select the folder where you’d like CDEX to place your ripped
tracks
and open the folder by pressing the right arrow key
8.. Press tab until you reach OK and press enter to confirm the
choice
of output folder
9.. Press tab until you reach OK and press enter to confirm your
changes
11.. You can change the format of the track names and the folders that
CDEX will create when ripping by making the following changes:
1.. Press F4 to enter the settings dialogue
2.. Press shift and tab and then left arrow until you reach the
filenames tab
3.. Tab once to the output file format and directories edit field.
If
you are confident with the naming conventions, you can edit your
preferences
directly into this field. Otherwise, tab once more and press the output
file format and directo

Hi Steve, John here

I've been downloading programs and other things from the homepage of the
website that you sajusted and don't you or anyone believe what they say, you
know on the sight they say the programs that are on their sight are all
spyware and demo free, I found a cupple of links where they wanted me to go
and buy the programs off them and also as I said about the spyware side of
it nearly every program that I downloaded from the site had all got spyware
my new tool from Microsoft the, Microsoft Anti Spyware found that nearly
every program was infected and that was just a few of them I didn't install
the rest I just uninstalled what I had already installed and then deleted
the setup.x file and then also got rid of the rest that I didn't chance to
install

So it shows how relyable Microsofts new software has turned out to be

RE: Having a problem saving tracks with cdx

2005-01-30 Thread David Truong
HI Peter,

I think the reason why you haven't received any answers on this topic is
because the answer is sort've self explanatory. If you look in the local
cddb options you should find the following:
"Winamp in_cdda.cdb path (Winamp 2.78 format)"
Note the last part of the above quote. (Winamp 2.78 format). So unless you
have Winamp 2.78 or lower installed on your computer and you have retrieved
cddb entries using that version, then I suspect that's why the option is
disabled. You could always try to install version 2.78 of Winamp and
retrieve some entries with it.

Very good detailed info.

One thing that has always baffled me about CDEX, which no-one seems to be
able answer. In the CDDB menu there is an option that says "Read from
Winamp DB". It is greyed out or unavailable. My understanding of this is
that one should be able to read from the Winamp program to fetch the CD
titles which have been retrieved from Gracenote. If I could get this to
work there would be no need for any other program to rip.

Gracenote is better without a shadow of doubt because of its error checking
however both (in my experience) have inconsistencies so one should never rely
on either, wherever possible or (if in doubt about a track listing) then scan
the CD cover yourself and make the data entry into your CD ripper.

Re: Adobe Audition

2005-01-30 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi,
Please read this about your problems.
Brian
http://www.kulgan.net/mick/programming/jfwscripts/audition/
Among the changes are:
* Support for Audition 1.5! However, JAWS unfortunately sometimes fails
to load the scripts when using Audition 1.5. This is not an issue with
the scripts and is beyond our control, though a possible solution is
discussed on the web page and in the bugs file.
* The use of window messages for the execution of most commands, thereby
removing the dependency on Audition's keyboard shortcuts remaining at
their default values, and for the retrieval of the status of certain
controls, thus eliminating the need to use colour information.
Unfortunately, this means that the scripts now require JAWS 5.1 or
above, as support for window messages in the scripting language was not
introduced until 5.1.

Hi
I wrote a week or two ago without reply and thought I'd try again.
Some of us are benefiting from the scripts made for Cool Edit Pro and
Adobe Audition version 1 to make them more accessible especially on the
Multitrack view. I've gone ahead and updated the program to Audition
version 1.5 and of course have discovered that the scripts do not work for
this. I tried contacting the scripts' author without success - even his
webpage does not seem to be available. I don't know how easy the scripts
would be to update but would value anyone's opinion, etc.

Look forward to some feedback.

it has audio for the tones being tuned, but no way of reading the trace, but
very bold display black and white. even with virtually no sight in one non
artificial eye i can use it. haven't tried the latest software with a
screen reader, but i think the screen display graphic could be trained.

when it moves right the note is sharp, and when left the note is flat.

Subject: Accessible Tuners

Hi everyone,
I'm throwing this question out there.
Does anyone know if there are any accessible tuners out there used for
helping to tune guitars? I'm playing a lot more these days and it would
be
nice to have one of those electronic tuner that will tell me if each
string
is in tune.
I know for the regular ones, they have some sort of needle that moves if
one
is sharp or flat.
I just didn't know if anyone knew of a good one that could be used by a
blind person.
If not, well...I guess it's time to start working on one. LOL Jim PS. I
guess this ruins the old stereotype that all blind people have perfect
pitch, eh?

What you see on the outside is nothing compared to what's on the inside.
As I said, Gracenote CDDB has allot more error checking applied whereas FREEDB
is... well... open slather, just take a look at FREEDB sometimes and see how
many matches you'll find for CD'S and (even then) allot of those matches found
don't follow the track list which appears on the cover.

Re: Echoes in Skype

2005-01-30 Thread shawn klein
It's just part of the program. I don't think you'll be
hacking in to it, lol. There's really nothing you can
do. If you're hearing echoes and they bother you, ask
the person you're talking to, nicely, to procure some
headphones. 8 times out of 10 it will not work, either
because they don't own a pair, they don't want to
unplug their speakers to hook up the headphones and
they don't have speakers like I do with a headphone
jack built in, or they just simply don't like wearing
headphones, but you can ask. With practice, you may
just get used to it. Maybe in some future release
they'll put in some controlable perameters for techies
to adjust on the fly to null out the echoes, but
probably not.

hi All

Have been on vacation for the last couple of weeks so have not seen any
emails referring to the status of rock box for the iriver mp3 players.
could someone tell me where I would need to go to find out the status of
the development for the iriver players.

Yes, they exist. The Archos studio players and recorders can talk with
the alternative firm wear called rock box, however these players and
recorders aren't made anymore and can only be found on Amazon and EBay.
Now Rockbox is being made for the IRiver players as well. I'll forward
an e mail with the player info. The Iriver players look better then the
Archos. I have the Archos Studio 20 recorder. I like it, but its kind of
big compared to the Iriver and other players.

Howdy Everyone,
A friend is looking for a mp3 player that has speech on it. He asked me
if I knew of one and I don't but I told him I knew where to
ask...(smile) So does one exist?
If not, what is in your opinion, the easiest mp3 player to use as a
blind person?
He does have some limited vision...
Thanks in advance,

Re: Having a problem saving tracks with cdx

2005-01-30 Thread Peter Scanlon
Very good detailed info.
One thing that has always baffled me about CDEX, which no-one seems to be
able answer. In the CDDB menu there is an option that says "Read from
Winamp DB". It is greyed out or unavailable. My understanding of this is
that one should be able to read from the Winamp program to fetch the CD
titles which have been retrieved from Gracenote. If I could get this to
work there would be no need for any other program to rip.

1.. Place your CD into any of your CD-ROM drives. Hold down the shift key

2.. Start CDEX from the desktop or programs menu.
3.. Your screen reader will start to announce the track listing of the CD

connecting to the internet but you will first need to make the following
changes:
1.. Press F4 to open the Settings dialogue
2.. Press shift tab and then right arrow until you reach the Remote CDDB
tab
3.. Press tab until you reach a control requesting you to enter your
e-mail address
4.. Key in your e-mail address and then tab to OK
5.. If you'd like CDEX to get CD information automatically each time you
start CDEX, then check the auto connect checkbox.
6.. Press enter on the OK button to confirm your changes
5.. To retrieve artist name, album title and track titles from the CDDB,
do the following:
1.. Press alt + D to enter the CDDB menu
2.. Press down arrow until you reach "Read remote CDDB"
3.. Press enter and CDEX will query the CDDB and pull back the artist
name, album title and track titles
4.. If you'd like to store this information so that you don't need to
retrieve from the CDDB again for this CD, press alt + D to enter the CDDB
menu and then arrow down until you reach "save to local CDDB". Pressing
enter at this point will save the CD information on your computer.

result in your tracks being set to the same volume even if they are taken
from CD's where the volumes vary considerably. To make CDEX normalise the
volume of ripped tracks, make the following changes:

the spacebar to check this
6.. Press tab until you reach OK and press enter to confirm your changes
7.. To rip all of the tracks to WAV format, press F8.

you can do this using the standard windows keystrokes of shift with the up

Make everyone you talk to buy headphones, lol! Those
echoes are coming from their speakers. Nothing you can
do. Skype has a smart algorithm to cancel out what
comes back through their speakers, but it often
doesn't work. In fact it could stop working in the
middle of a call, so you won't hear any echo, then
whoever it is moves their head the wrong way or

how do you get enhanced cd's to play

2005-01-30 Thread Joanne
I have a few cd's that are apparently enhanced in some way where other files
besides music are contained in them--sort of like a cross between a DVD and
music CD I guess. I have winamp set to play music cd's but it doesn't know
how to play these at all. In fact when I go into the drive where the disc
is, and when I enter on properties it gives me only power dvd as my choice
to play this type of cd. Isn't there another way to get just the music to
play with winamp or media player? I was ripping the tracks with c dex and
luckily c dex didn't have trouble finding the tracks in spite of all the
other enhanced stuff on the disc, but how can I get the music files to play?

Firstly! regarding Peters question aboutthe Panasonic RXED50, its perfectly

Regarding Winamp and slow ripping, the reason for the slow-down is that Winamp

way it interacts with the encoder.

EAC works on a cue system (or can work on a cue system were every track to be
encoded is added to a cue). You can set EAC so that the encoder works whilst
EAC is ripping from CD (encodes in the background) or you can put the cue to
sleep and wake it up to encode what you've ripped when the computer is idel
etc. Easy CD Da Extracto will encode "ON THE FLY" but the ripping speedh slows
down for some reason, no need for that on todays modern-day machines.
Other rippers which can access Gracenote CDDB? Well i think their was a company
called Shampoo Software or something which marketed a product called CD MP3
Studio, I think I have the names right, we're going back a bit in time here.
As far as I know, Easy CD Creator cannot access Gracenote CDDB but I could be
wrong.
Cheers
