Deb:
I'm having the exact same problems with FTP and even did the steps on the
web site. I can't even get Skype to work. First of all, you need the updated
scripts for Skype which you can get from www.jfwlite.com The easiest thing
is to extract the scripts to a blank folder, then copy them in to the
explore jaws settings file which is under your jaws under programs.

Hi, My name is Deb Ver Steeg and I am new on the list.
I have two problems.
First, I can not get the software to download for me on the For the People
site. I am using windows xp and running jaws 6.0. It just will not do it. I
do not know why. Any thoughts?
Second, I have the older version of Skype and the jfw scripts for it. How
do I load the scripts into the skype so that I can use it. I am a real
novas with all of this and a very literal learner.

The term is wrong, cross-fading is when you want to fade from one track into
anohter (nearly the same as mixing) whereas if you want gapless playing
(without gaps between tracks) you can ajust the currently installed plug-ins to
fix this problem, also ajust the output setting so that Winamp is playing to
your sound device directly rather than through the Microsoft sound mapper.

Well what happens after eight tracks? If it's something that can't be
avoided, then you could mix down what you have and add to that. There's a
check box that says to decrease volume when tracks are added. I haven't
figured out why you would want it to do that though.
Thanks a lot.

Hi,
Please let the rest of us know what you find out, should you write
to the author. I'm wondering if it is worth updating my ntrack studio. I
am using the one I downloaded at the time of the review.

I have sonar and audition, too, but don't have much luck trying to
use those two more robust programs, but using ntrack studio has not been a
problem at all, with the minor exception of adding more than eight
tracks. If anyone is interested, I can send my first production as an mp3

Hmm. This depends then on what version you're running I guess. I didn't
upgrade to version 4, as the version 3 build I'm using is good enough for
what I need, so maybe things have changed. Unfortunately then, I can't help
with it, and my Main Menu review will not help you until you can get into
the menus. Write Flavio, the program author, and ask him what changes you
have made. He's familiar with my audio review, and with the fact that I am
blind, so if you let him know your troubles, maybe he can give pointers on
how to access it with the keyboard, if indeed he has changed something
around. Let him know that I do not have the latest version of the program,
so I won't be able to help.
Thanks a lot.

Skype and JAWS

2005-02-15 Thread Roger R. Cusson
Hi Listers,

I want to caution anyone wanting to download the latest builds of Skype,
directly from the Skype site. The latest versions of Skype are not yet
supported by Chris Nestrud / Doug Lee, the makers of the Skype Scripts for
JAWS.

On their site, however, you can obtain a slightly older version, 1.0.0.100.
Please use this one, or if you want, I can send you the last build, which
was 1.0.0.106, which was the last 1.xxx build, before version 1.1.xxx of
Skype came out.

If you install the JAWS scripts and the older versions of the Skype program,
things will work as Chriss's documentation describes. If you do not follow
this advice, you will be sadly mistaken, when you install the new versions
of Skype, and things do not work at all as expected.

Those two fine folks are working towards a resolution with the new Skype
versions but --- wait until they are finished.

Anyone wishing to go directly to Chriss's JFW Skype scripts page, please go
to:

http://www.panix.com/~ccn/projects/jfw/skype.php?JFWVersion=600410&ScriptVersion=200&SkypeProgramDate=20041123&WindowsOSVersion=3&SkypeUserName=rcusson&MenuBackgroundColor=010036106

Recording time on the Edirol R-1!

2005-02-15 Thread Jerry Richer
Actually the recording time on the Edirol R-1 is 2.5 hours with it's
two AA batteries. The playback time is 6 hours.
Now someone asked how much recording time the Compact Flash card would
allow. With the included 64 MB card at CD quality or 44,100 Hurtz and 16
bit stereo you would get 6 minutes and 20 seconds. With a 2 GB card at CD
quality you would get 3 hours, 22 minutes and 54 seconds.
 Compact Flash is expensive: 1 GB $110, 2 GB $220, 4 GB $350.
I wish the R-1 had some sort of loud speaker but I can cope with
headphones. My Sony MZB100 has a built-in speaker but most of the time the
environment I'm working in is so noisy that it may as well not be there. I
do not own an R-1 nor have I ever seen one but I will probably end up with
one in a few months. The fact that it shows up on your computer as another
drive makes it very valuable.

You don't need a telephone to use Skype, just your computer, speakers,,
and microphone, and also your broadband.

Subject: a skype question

I'm new to Skype because I haven't had time to mess with it before. I
never followed the conversations about it. Is this a program that you
have to use
your actual telephone for, or is this something that is done via cable
modem? I have high speed access, and I don't think my computer is
currently connected
to the telephone line. So if I don't need to use the telephone line, this
would be great.
