RE: Roxio5 and CD image files
Talk about going all around the houses. Just open up EZ creator and select either a music or data cd and then select the tracks from within the ap as mentioned below or cut and paste them into the track list and then go to the file menu having put a blank cd in the drive and enter on record. There are a few settings that can be tweaked in here and then you have your cd. No need for the two steps as below. If you really want to keep an image of it it offers you that option once the cd is burned. Maybe this will work for your friend. This is from the jfwlite.com site. Preparation: 1. Close all files running in the "systems tray" that you do not need, especially "virus checkers". 2. Create a new folder on your hard drive, if you don't know how see below. 3. Start your "windows explorer" program. 4. You will be positioned on the line just below the "c" hard drive line. Hit "alt+f" and enter on the first item. Hit enter on "folder" which is the first item. You will be in a edit field enter the name of the folder you wish to create (I used "cdmusic") and hit enter. 5. Return to the desktop. Begin create CD procedure. 1. Do not put a blank CD into your CD writer until instructed. 2. Hit "insert+f11" (system tray) and arrow down to "adaptec create cd" and hit enter. 3. The first item will be "audio sub menu" hit enter. 4. The first item on the next screen will be "audio cd" hit enter on it. 5. This will bring up a screen "Untitled easy Cd creator" and you will be positioned on the "c" drive, in the tree view, right arrow to open. 6. Arrow down to "program files" (I type "pro" and it goes there) right arrow to open. 7. Arrow down to "napster" (I type "n" to get there) right arrow to open. 8. Arrow down to "music" (I type "m" to get there) and hit tab to open the list. 9. Arrow down to the first title you wish to select and hit the space bar to select, now you may hold down the control key and arrow down to the next title you wish to select and hit space bar to select. I wanted all 21 titles in my "music" folder, so I hit "ctrl+a" to select all. 10. Hit "alt+e" (for edit) and arrow down to "add selected" (you may hit "s" to go directly). 11. Tab, this will bring up a edit field "cd title" (this is an optional entery). 12. Tab again this will bring up "Artist name" (this is optional). 13. Tab again this will put you in "cd layout", here titles will be arranged alphabetically by artist then by title, you can cut and paste your titles so as to arrange the order you want the songs on your CD. 14. Now that you have your music arranged in the order you would like it to appear on the CD, hit "alt+f" (for file), arrow down to "create CD image" and hit enter. This will bring up a edit box for "file name", put in your path and file name, (I used "c:\cdmusic\various"). 15. Tab, this puts you in "file type", this is OK as is, proceed to the next step. 16. Tab, this places you on the "save" button, hit enter. 17. Now the "create CD image" has began, wait a couple minutes then route your "jaws to PC cursor", arrow up 3 lines, (I set my screen echo to none), here you can follow the progress of the image creation. When the creation phase is completed you will be positioned on the "OK", hit enter. 18. You are now returned to the "untitled Easy CD" menu screen. 19. You are now ready to burn the CD from the image, place a blank CD in the CD writer and close the drawer. 20. Hit "alt+F" (for file) arrow down to "Create CD from CD image" and hit enter, you will be in a edit box for "file name", type in the path and file name you created in the previous phase (I used "c:\cdmusic\various", this will open the file and begin creating the CD. With your "jaws" cursor you can follow the progress, this will not take as long as the previous phase. When this phase is completed you will have to locate the "OK" and left click on it to begin to close the process. >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 5/24/2005 12:59:15 AM >>> Hi, this is Steve. Hi everyone, Well, my goal is to create a podcast. Forget the rss, forget uploading files, i need help with the most basic of basics. What I want to do is start with music, podsafe music of course. I want to fade it down, talk a little bit, fade it back up, or perhaps fade it out entirely. What software do I need? Can someone give me a senario so that I can accomplish this small yet important task? By the bye I do have Window-eyes and Sound Forge 6.0. If Sound Forge won't work I'm willing to go anywhere, download anything so that I can get this project started. Thanks for your help in advance. Re: recording talking books
Hi there, Well, as far as your talking book player from NlS and your handi cassette recorder, you could plug the patch cord into the earphone jack. As far as your stereo, you can either plug it in the earphone jack or if you have them, the line out jack on the back of the unit. Note about using your stereo: Unless you use a program like GoldWave or Total Recorder, you will not be able to use your stereo because your stereo will play the tapes twice as fast as they were recorded. Plus, your stereo will play two sides (tracks) at a time. Hope this helps, Chris Chaffin - Original Message - From: "Allison Mervis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. The length of the recording time is as follows, approximately: High-quality stereo, 1HR 10MN; standard stereo 2HR 20MN; High Quality Mono 4HR 40MN; standard Mono 10HR; and low quality mono 22HR. I use mine all the time. The menus all default to there normal setting after you've used them, so there is only a little bit of memorization in order to operate the unit. Battery life is very nice; and it comes with a USB docking cradle, so you do not necessarily need the USB cord, if you don't want to use it. Also, it can be used as a USB microphone and a USB speaker, which can be good if you are using dictation software such as Dragon of ViaVoice. It also has voice activated recording and mic sensativity selections. On playback, it comes with some different noise cancellation settings. The buttons are fairly big, for the most part, and the speaker sounds pretty good. The ear buds that come with the unit are very decent, and it even comes with a carry-case that is cool, too. Re: Minidisc recorder Drawback
I've had mini disc recorders since 1996 and really love them. I have the sony 505, and even though it doesn't have a mike input, I use it to listen to music while I ring bells during xmas time for the Salvation Army. I do have a sony MZR90. An it's one of the older portable models and it does have a mike input. The only thing is when you get in to the menue, you need to keep track of the amount of times you move the wheel to keep track of which function you want to go too. I also have an MDSJE480 home minidis recorder, and I really love it. That one and the 505 portable will play the LP2 LP4 and the SP sampling rates. But the MZR90 will only play the SP sampling rates. The MDSJE 480 doesn't have a mike input. I do have a stereo tie clip mike I use for the MZR90. It's a cheap mike, but really it sounds quite nice. the only draw back with the MZR90 is that you can't move it around much while in the record mode, or it will mistrack. But over all I like the minidisk format quite well. Kevin On Tue, 24 May 2005 15:49:08 -0600 "Bobcat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > Michael. The new Olympus interests me. Michael. The new Olympus interests me. I just lost my Olympus VN1800 So I'm in the market for another memory aid. Will be nice for recording choir practices too. They finally came out with the sort of recorder I wanted. Only wish it had more memory but 128 megs will do, especially for the aprox $100 price tag. I sure hope it uses multiple beeps for selecting folders the way my 1800 did. It had 1 to 4 short beeps for 4 folders. The other functions on the 1800 had useful audible tons as well. Only thing I could not work was the calendar function. I notice that a model reviewed on Main menu only used one tone so it was harder to keep track of folders. That was a step in the wrong direction from Olympus. I would go for a Mini-disk but it seems they all have some sort of accessability drawbacks. I'll have to figure out a way to keep the new Olympus from getting away from me. Re: Very basic iPodder question, to start with
Hi Christopher, In other words, it's kind of academic for me to be wondering why the operation is called synchronizing (has anyone thought to use the Jaws dictionary to force it to say "sink" instead of pronouncing "synch" the way it does? Drives me nuts). I guess that just refers to setting its schedule for checking a site for new feeds/programs. If that's so, how come when you set a VCR to record a sitcom, you don't talk about synching the VCR to the network "feeds?" Don't get caught up in the question. I'm just fascinated with language. Professional hazard. In any case, I haven't set a VCR for a few years, so I guess that was a nostalgic analogy... Re: Minidisc recorder Drawback
Shane, I know the DS-2 and the WS-200s. The DS-2 has bigger buttons and a bigger speaker. It can only record up to one hour in its S-HQ mode, because it has 64 megs of memory and uses 128 KBPS for its S-HQ mode. The WS-200s can record up to four hours in its S-HQ mode, because it has 128 megs of memory and uses 64 KBPS. None of the two can be used with an AC adapter. One can listen to the end of the last recording with the DS-2 by skipping to it and then pressing back, while in stop mode. This isn't possible on the WS-200s, because the WS is just a note taking recorder, while Olympus sees the DS-2 as a kind of dictation machine. Also, to connect the DS-2 with a PC, one has to use a USB cable, but the WS-200s has a built-in USB plug. <*** Michael Lang ***> You wrote: > Hello, Michael and list. But one thing I think isn't premature to ask is about synchronizing. I've already seen the term used in conjunction with other, related things like the management of downloads from audible.com, but I confess to not understanding what the concept means, yet. Let me specify how I imagine using iPodder, and then someone tell me where the term synch comes in, if at all, in that scenario: All I imagine doing is setting up iPodder at first so that I can check for new downloads of certain daily or weekly programs on my local NPR station's Web site. I just want to be told if a new program ("feed," should I be saying?) is available, and then, if I wish to, issuing a command to download it to the player. Then I expect to have a choice between either using iPodder to play the file on my computer (couldn't it be played on WMP, Real Player, or Winamp?) or, if I wish instead, to copy it to my .mp3 player to listen to that way. I don't want to leave that player connected to my USB port all the time and have things being copied onto it automatically. It's just a little flash memory player I use for audible.com programs, and I don't even have any idea how large these podcast files are likely to be. It's not as if I have an iPod and can just cram it full of stuff, indiscriminately. So, does what I'm describing fit the term "synching?" Or is there no synchronization involved because I'm only talking about downloading files and later, if I wish, copying some of them onto a mobile device? This is a really basic orientation question, and I hope someone can help me understand the terms here. I can stop and start record, find files, but can't access the sliders for recording volume, and the slider that apparently controlls the mix between mic and music. I use Window-eyes and like I say, have had some success, but without the ability to mix, or regulate mic input the program won't work. It is available from http://www.industrialaudiosoftware.com Click on the podcasting link. You can find the updated version of Winamp 5.091 at www.whitestick.co.uk/download.html. The file is about 5MB in size. I hope this helps. Re: Minidisc recorder Drawback
Hello, Michael and list. Michael, I have listned to all your reviews on Main Menu, so your opinion is very high in my book. I just purchased an Olympus DS2, and I love it. Do you have any reviews of this little machine, and if you don't, do you personally have the recorder? I am very interested in comparisons between the DS2 and the WS200S. Steve, you wrote: > I just checked again. USB for input only. No, one can upload recordings with the MZ-RH910 however, one has to use SonicStage and I often heard, that it sometimes eats uploaded files, after which they're neither on the MD nor on the PC. For relatively high quality speech recordings, you could use the new Olympus WS-200s, a little recorder, which records in Windows Media Audio format 64 KBPS. The machine has a built-in USB plug, so that one can upload recordings to a PC, without having to do any kind of conversion. Don't know what it would cost you, I don't live in the U. S., but it shouldn't be more than $120. But this isn't a music recorder. For a good music recorder with upload capabilities, you'd have to spend $600 or so, that would get you a Marantz PMD660 with track marking, silent skip and so on. <*** Michael Lang ***> ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
creating mp3/data files in Easy CD Creater 5
I want to transfer a number of albums that I have on my hard drive to disk and maintain them in separate folders for each album. I am using Easy CD Creater 5 though I could use 6. When I try to transfer the folder, the files are listed without being retained in their folders. I may be doing this as a data disk. Would it make a difference if I do it as an MP3 disk? Re: Roxio5 and CD image files
Here's how to do it in version 4.2. Foobar2000
Hi, I'm dong something I didn't think I'd do, and that is start to look for alternatives to my beloved Winamp player. The last few versions have been so buggy, and I now have a huge playlist that chokes Winamp, sometimes. What free alternative players can anyone recommend? Does anyone have any experience with the Foobar2000 player? Is it at all screen reader friendly? Any and all suggestions are welcome. And, if there is a way to help Winamp to handle my ever growing playlist size well that would be even better. Thanks. ~Ann --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. Need Advice on Music Download Services
In exploring the world of online music download services, so far, I've found the easiest to use, and the best one-stop-shopping venue, to be Real.com's Music Store. However, I don't like using RealPlayer for playing back or organizing the music files on my hard drive. For that, I much prefer Winamp. So, I'm reluctant to start buying rax files, from Real.com, in any big way, until I understand if/how I'll be able to get generic mp3/wav files out of them, which I can then browse and play with Winamp. will I have to burn my Real.com purchases to CD, then rip them to my hard drive? Is that the best way? So far, at least, I envision doing all of this on my desktop computer, no IPod or other portable devices involved. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
