I have it, and it works perfect for me. You need about an hour or to ajust on it but at the end its simple to use. Just make sure if you decide to take it, that you change its firmware to an UMS version. With that firmware you will be able to use the player as a regular usb drive, or otherwise you will not be able to transfer all files to the player and from the player. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
streaming trouble
Hi, I just inherited a computer running XP, am using JFW 4.02 and am having almost no luck trying to play streams. I'm not sure which version of media player I have and cannot figure out how to get it to play in a separate window. 99% of the time nothing happens at all when I click on a station, I just find myself still sitting on the link I tried to play and the one station I can play takes over the window so cannot continue browsing for other stations, but can't do anything like change volume or see any controls of any type. I've tried running the demo of JFW 5.10 with no luck either. I guess that was a very long way of saying I have no earthly idea how to work with this media player and streams and would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions anyone could give. Hello, I have never previously needed to use the cddb facility in Cdex 1.51, and I can't figure out how to configure it. Would someone please take me step by step through this process. Definitions requested and need a question answered.
Hello, I have good success burning either audio or data cds using Nero 5.5. Most of the time, I just use the wizard. But now I am thinking of upgrading to Nero 6.6. I understand there is no wizard in 6.6, yet I know that a lot of people really like it. So what are the advantages of this version over 5.5? Also, I would like definitions for the following cd burning terms: 1. Exaclink. 2. Mount Rainier formatting. 3. Under burn. and 4. m r read and write. I know that Mount Rainier formatting has something to do with the incd packet writing software, but I would like to know the specifics. Thanks in advance for responses. Re: Total Recorder and Winamp
Tim, What OS? I had all kinds of problems with Windows 98, especially if I switched between total Recorder and chat software like ivocalize and Winamp or Winmx and absolutely couldn't record software streams without an external synthe. With XP i'm having none of those error messages and people's results seem to vary somewhat across systems from what i've heard. i'm not sure whether I have the registry patch but I'll look to see if i can find out what it was called. i got it from Dean Martineau, but i'm pretty sure it is available directly from High Criteria's website. I don't know for sure that you need a second sound card, but it sounds like your best bet at this point. As I said, i haven't had problems with Eloquence and TR under XP, but had been contemplating getting a USB soundcard for use with .wav dictation files as a medical transcription student. Fortunately, i found someone who was very anxious to sell a Dectalk Express thanks to a tip from someone on a mailing list and did not have to pay any more than a second sound card would have cost, so guess which option I went with? Hope this helps some and that I haven't been too confusing. Susan - Original Message - From: Tim Walsh [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'PC audio discussion list. Re: help for a friend
Doc, He understands about that, smile. Problem is that he needs to use a dedicated player for the .wav files with a foot pedal, and there's no way to do this within Winamp. The player he has contains some hotkeys for moving through files, but I think you have to move in and out of the player window to use them effectively and there is no way to maintain the level of speed he is used to without a foot pedal. it's a frustrating problem which most transcriptionists solve by either unloading JAWS so they don't blast their ears out when they have to turn the volume up on .wav files, or else those of us who are lucky enough to either have an external synthe or maybe a braille device can get some help there. Would be a great suggestion if it worked. Susan - Original Message - From: Doc [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. Since he cannot control the volume of the .wav files independent of JAWS, he plans to purchase a USB soundcard and needs advice on configuring them to do what he wants. I am not sure what sound card he has, but this message may help the experts figure it out. pasting his message below and will gladly forward any responses to him, or else you can respond directly to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you prefer. Susan Hi Susan, I'm in the process of rejoining Blindtech so as soon as I start receiving messages I will post there, but if you will post to PC-audio for me I'd appreciate it. The person who has the USB card just calls it a USB Creative card so I'm not sure what that means, and I'm not real sure what onboard card I have either, when I go into system properties under device manager I find something called a VIA AC97 Enhanced Audio Controller under sound cards, and there's also a Legacy audio driver so I'm not sure, for all I know neither of those are my sound card. RE: Total Recorder and Winamp
Hello everybody, particularly Susan and Marty, Marty, I always launch total Recorder before my audio source, and I'm still getting the Direct sound version 2.3 error in winamp. Susan, I'm on a brand new PC running XP Pro and Jaws with Eloquence. Funny thing: my old machine's OS is 98 SE, and I never had a problem. My synth on that machine was an old DecTalk Express on life support with a broken on/off switch and a rather suspect headphone jack. My new machine has only one serial port that's clearly for the monitor. I do have a monitor connected, as I have some vision and sometimes use the monitor. I wasn't too concerned about the single serial port, as I was planning to retire the DecTalk Express (given its decrepit condition), and go with software speech on a dedicated soundcard and purchase a high quality second sound card for all other audio. I hope to make that purchase soon. In the meantime, I was hoping to make do with what I have, because I typically archive 6 to 8 hours of streaming radio per week. I don't know what the registry patch is supposed to accomplish. I just saw mention of it on the list. I'm open to more suggestions, be it the patch or otherwise. I have Nero 6, and the only options I'm aware of for using it are either to use the Smart Start interface that isn't Jaws accessible, or, and this is the method I use, just go to the Nero item on the Start/Programs menu, open the submenu, and click on the module you want to use, such as Nero Burning ROM, as opposed to the Backup function or the other one. But if Version 6 has this Wizard thing and it simplifies the procedure for you if you're using a screen reader, I'd love to know about it. Although all controls seem to be pretty well labeled for Jaws, or should I say spoken by Jaws, I get pretty confused trying figure out where I am and on which page or tab is where I'm supposed to click to to begin a burn or a copy. Sometimes, as happened yesterday, I was trying to copy a music CD and it was only after wandering around and around a bunch of tabs and checking settings until I was pleasantly disoriented that I somehow came upon a button to press for Copy. I hadn't even come across it in my several rotations through the tabs for making burn settings and stuff. It's pretty confusing and frustrating this way. So what's up with the Wizard deal? Thanks. posed - Original Message - From: Donald L.
Tim, I don't know how it works technically, smile, but as i remember it is supposed to filter out software speechin conjunction with the TR driver which normally blocks extraneous Windows sounds. Interesting that your problems are with XP, which is the opposite of what I've heard most people report. it's such a great program when it works but seems difficult to replicate problems from one user to another. Anyway, tomorrow I'll try to locate my saved messages referencing the registry patch. i obtained it shortly before backing up some files from my 98 machine to CD so may have saved it but not installed or transferred it to new PC. If not I know where to get the information and it may be worth a try for you, particularly if it saves the expense of a secondary soundcard and the aggravation of configuring it if you had no other reason to consider purchasing one. susan ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: putting midi sequence file on cd?
Hi, Total recorder should do it. You need to play the annalog sound generated from a midi file then record it in a .wav file. Hope this helps. At 04:14 PM 6/18/2005 -0500, you wrote: Hi listers. I know this must be simple but I'm really out of it somehow. I have a midi sequence file that plays on windows media player. I'm trying to figure out a way to get it in to soundforge so I can burn it on a cd. Is there a way to change file type or to get sound forge or total recordder to record this file as it's playing?
