Sound Forge 8 recording problems

2005-07-07 Thread Matthew Bullis
Hello, I can use version 7 just fine when recording, but when I use version
8, the playback of the recorded file has glglglglglitches in it.
This won't do for live recording. I played around with some of the recording
buffer settings, but since they don't have explanatory blurbs with each
setting, I don't know which ones to tweak. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

Re: Stareo ground hum

I think radio shack sells a device that comes between your AC cord and
outlet that will help in reducing the hum from older systems. Also,
grounding the stereo and computer might make a difference.

ask?

Well!

I can't for the life of me understand why the writer changed the
check/unchecked notification feature at all. It use to work just fine and
it did not do anything bad to the program so why bother with it. I
purchased the program back in early 2000/20001 and that original version
allowed you to just arrow up and down the list and it would let you know
which track was checked or unchecked. In fact, there was an option in the
settings area that asked you whether or not you wanted to use check boxes or
not. With this checked to yes ensured you would have this data read or you
could set things with checkboxes and know whether or not a track was
selected or not. The layout acts the same, so why not put it back. I just
can't understand why programmers feel they must tamper with things that
work. There is absolutely nothing improved in the program by making this
info ungettable.

I would say to the programmer put it back and make the program better for
us all.

2005-07-07 Thread Yardbird
Hi,

I just bought a copy of the new release for myself, and from what I read on
the site it seems that this developer is open to correspondence from users.
I suggest you simply write to him exactly what you've written here, and see
what he says. Maybe no one has made this observation to him yet, and he'll
be happy to learn that it's a problem.

that's terrific to know, Hank. that would make it doable, as we say.
Thanks. I'm starting to lean toward just buying the baby. I mean,
$24.95,
and apparently going to a programmer or a small company that has
integrity
and is more community-minded than the bigger vendors of such
programs. Or

at least that's what it seems like, from reading the stuff on their site.
Thanks again. And Bruce, did you catch that? Maybe it's not all just
dependent on memory, after all, with this selection issue.

if you do the say line feature when selecting a track it will say
track 2
check box checked or not checked but you have to use the say line
feature to

 get that feature to work.

I'm not Steve, but I can't recommend this program enough. The
only problem
I've found from an accessibility standpoint is that when you
are selecting
individual tracks to be ripped, JAWS won't give you the
checked/unchecked
status. I don't know about Window-Eyes, perhaps someone could
respond to

that from a WE perspective. All it takes to get around this is a little
memorization. One really nice feature of Easy CD-DA Extractor is
that it
integrates itself into Windows Explorer's context menus, so
converting a
file or burning it to a CD is as simple as right-clicking or
hitting the

context menu key on a file and choosing the appropriate option.

Subject: Stareo ground hum

In an attempt to get rid of ground hum or electrical hum between the
computer and stereo I moved the computer next to the stereo.
I have two serge protectors next to each other using the same plugin
because

I have a lot of things around that area.

Now I had the computer and stereo plugged in to the same serge and one in
each one and wile the hum seems to be a bit quieter, it is still there.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to filter out this hum. I rent an
older home, but the electrical plugin I am using is new so I would be
limited on what I can try to eliminate this noise.
I did shorten the cord between the computer and stereo, but no difference.

Short of going out and buying a usb external card and hoping that will
some

how work better any ideas?

Thanks.

edirol r1 I took the plunge

2005-07-07 Thread Don Ball
Well folks I took the plunge and ordered the edirol r1.
I Bought it and had it shipped next day so I can play with it this weekend.
I ordered it from sound professionals and with some high capacity NIMH
batterys I should get double the time out of the recorder. I all so
purchased a two gig compact flash card. Wish me luck.

Hi Don,

I returned mine, because it often produced just digital noise, when I
recorded something with it. At www.taperssection.com are messages from
other people with the same problem. So, if you sometimes just hear
noise when you've recorded stuff with the Edirol, you're not alone.

Good luck
