RE: Name and Price
Hi! Wwish it was as simple as simply using a cable as Peter seems to suggest. If you mean a separate turntable, i.e. one that is not built into a stereo system, you would probably need some kind of pre-amp between the turntable and the computer. If the turntable is built into a stereo system, then you can simply use a connecting cable to connect to the line-in of your sound card and the line out of the stereo system that you connect a tape deck to. Mp3 Players that play WMA files
Hi, all! I work in our local public library system in Louisville, and recently the decision was made to put downloadable audible books on our website. Thing is, the books are in Windows Media format only. Does anyone know what players are available, that are relativiely inexpensive and blind-friendly, to play these things? I know that, blind friendly or no, if you want players that save your place for you in a file, you have to buy more expensive stuff. But any help to know which ones to recommend for us blind readers would be greatly appreciated! Re: Name and Price
Is it possible to use the phono input, if one has no turn table, to hook the computer, xm, etc to? Right now, I have my XM receiver hooked to the VCR input, but if I decided to get Sirius also one day, I'd have no other place to hook it besides phono, as I have a tape and CD player hooked up, and there is no auxiliary on my stereo for one more. I thought, from what I heard, it would make anything that's not a turn table sound bad. - Original Message - From: "Andre Van Deventer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'PC audio discussion list. The problem you will run into is that most phono inputs are amplified. your ouput on your xm and Sirius units are like headphone jacks and all you would get is distortion. hello friends, perhaps i will get my knuckles wrapped for this by the administrator, if you would like to hear the sort of thing we blind people in ireland get up to, visit www.ncbi.ie/focus, i am editor of an audio magazine here in the republic of ireland, it is the magazine of the national council of the blind of ireland, i record it here at home, it is produced every two weeks and goes out to over two thousand blind and vision impaired people throughout ireland and parts of europe, it is produced on a c60 cassette and the magazine called "focus" deals with matters concerning blindness and vision impairment, not only in ireland but in other countries, just take a look, i compose all the "link" music, and would like some of the people on this list to give me feedback, i've been editing the magazine for seventeen years, and love doing it, i use "sound forge" for the editing, anyway, thought i might get some of my friends on the list to take a look, regards from ireland, joe. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Re: Mp3 Players that play WMA files
Kathy, Winamp will play these WMA files for you. Of course, Winamp is not an MP3 player as such or specifically at any rate but it will play WMA files. It is a computer-based program. You may know of the program already but if not, it is available from www.winamp.com You can purchase stand-alone WMA players and the books are supposedly able to be downloaded, copied and played on WMA players. I have listened to 3 or 4 books on my computer using Winamp. You can insert time markers for convenient restarts. - Original Message - From: "Jim Noseworthy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'PC audio discussion list. Re: increasing volume with MP3 Direct Cut
Seems like a cool program. How would one do it for video files in mpeg-2 I record off my tuner card? They tend to be somewhat quiet, and I don't have a copy of Adobe Premier laying around. Extracting the audio with virtual dub seems to make it louder some how, but a long tedious process with a lot of files. It would be interesting if a product existed that I could right-click on a folder and hit send to video to audio converter and have it done in awhile. - Original Message - From: "Rob" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. Re: Mp3 Players that play WMA files
Yes, I am able to play the copywrite protected files on my computer using Winamp. They ask that you don't download these files to a public computer. The files time out after 21 days but you are allowed one renewal for another 21 days. One thing you can't do is copy the file to another format such as from WMA to MP3 or OG vorbus etc. - Original Message - From: "André van Deventer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'PC audio discussion list. RE: Mp3 Players that play WMA files
Thanks! I bought some of these files from a music service over here. This means that I have the licenses on my computer anyway. So I suppose Winamp should not give me a problem then? Re: Name and Price
I think most of the newer turntables have preamps built in to them because the new stereo receivers don't have the phono jacks in them. I never bought one but I was looking for one 2 or 3 years ago and saw that they had their own preamps. Output v DSP Plug-In for Compression
I wasn't looking for this, really I wasn't, but I found a volumizer (for lack of a better term)--you know, AGC + multi-band compresser + eq--whose sound I absolutely have fallen in love with since I installed it. I'll say what it is if that's allowed, Mr. Lister, maybe you'll let me know if it's OK to name names. I'd love to use it for broadcasting. I use it now in the house/office for general playback purposes and it's just an amazing sound. The problem is, it's an output plug-in, not a DSP, so I'm not exactly sure how to use it in conjunction with either a DSP streamer like Shoutcast or stand-alone like Duckstream. In fact, I'm not even a hundred percent sure it *can* be used in a broadcast environment. Further, would it modify other non-Winamp audio such as what comes through the sound card's inputs (microphone or line-in)? I've been testing with it and it seems like the answer is no. This is really too bad because the audio out of this thing is just so superior to anything else I've heard to date for Winamp. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. Re: sam broadcaster
SAM is virtually inaccessible with JAWS, slightly less virtually inaccessible (that is, slightly more accessible) with Window-Eyes. This is because of the screen-drawing package they are using, called Delphi, which uses hot-spots and other kinds of movable objects for sighted folks to click and make things happen. Some of the on-screen controls are recognized by Window-Eyes, but a friend and I have not really gotten far enough with it for either of us to say we're comfortable using it to broadcast with or do a live gig with. And before you go thinking that maybe the manufacturer should hear from us as a user group, don't waste your time, unless you really feel like taking on a project that will require a Herculean effort on your part and staying power like you never thought you had. My friend and I have both been told twice now that Spacial Audio is not interested in re-writing their screen stuff so that we can use it, they're a small company, they don't have the resources, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Mind you, they were very nice about saying blah blah blah, but that's all we got was yackity yack, blah blah, blah blah, thank you very much now please go away. Re: Mp3 Players that play WMA files
I believe it is only the later versions of Winamp that have the ability to play the WMA format. If you have an earlier version of Winamp and it does not play your WMA files, update to the latest version. Of course, you can have more than one version of Winamp on your computer--just put them each in a separate directory.
