AT&T Natural Voices

2005-11-30 Thread Kiran Kaja
Hi all,

I am not sure if this question is on topic for the list. If not please don't
throw me out! I won't ask again.

I have the AT&T Natural Voices version 1.4 with Mike voice. I have been
having it for sometime now but never actually came to install it. When I
tried installing it now from the Speech applet in the Control Panel, it says
that the voice cannot be played and asks me to either select another voice
or check my sound card device. I have also downloaded and installed
microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 on someone's suggestion. But it didn't work. Any
help for getting this Mike person to speak is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kiran Kaja

Hi all.

I am sorry if this has been beaten to death before but I NEED to come up with a

Thanks in advance. Just FYI, I am running Windows XP home and Jaws 7.0.

Right! well you could try the Windows Sound Recorder and I think its
found in the Entertainment options under Accessaries in the
Programmes group, sorry I cannot be more specific as its been a while
since I've used that tool.

Hi Paul,
Use Sound Recorder, found in:
Start menu,Programs, Accessories under entertainment.
You have only got about 1 minute to make your recording, the first time, but
you can just append another recording to the first one to make a longer one.
If you need help with that, let me know.

Hi Paul!

First of all, thanks for your response. You are always welcome.

In line with your question, you can use Sound Recorder. You can find it by
press your start menu, go to programs, accessories, entertainment, and look
for Sound Recorder. Once you are there, JAWS will announce "Button" without
the quotations. Fto read the buttons, just press JAWS key + F8.

Regards,

Roden

Maybe it would be in the jaws directory, or options. I have no clue, because
I have only one soundcard, the default.

good luck to you,

Re: routing jaws to a second card, need assistance

2005-11-30 Thread R Q J
Yes you can route Jaws to a particular card, by editing the jfw.ini file.
There are instructions on the FS website,in the support section.
However this isn't the only way to get Jaws to use a different card.
It's basically just a matter of telling your other audio applications to use
a different card than Jaws does.

Re: routing jaws to a second card, need assistance

2005-11-30 Thread Brent Harding
I tried the edit to jfw.ini and it makes jaws extremely sluggish for some
reason. Or is that the way that motherboard card is when a second card is in
use at the same time? Some other apps require the default card also and
couldn't be switched. I wonder why FS doesn't add a feature to do it
properly.

Re: routing jaws to a second card, need assistance

2005-11-30 Thread R Q J
Hi Brent,
Unfortunately, either method may not work on every system.
I haven't used the method of editing the jfw.ini file, so I can't really
comment on it.
I can tell you that I have had success with the following audio applications
with 2 soundblaster cards:
WinAmp, GoldWave, and RecAllPro
I have used other apps in this configuration, but I don't have all of them
installed at this time,
so I can't tell you which ones they are for sure.
Any audio software that allows a choice of output devices to be selected,
should work fine with 2 soundcards.
You should be able to do this with on-board audio as well, but I haven't had
the chance to test this yet.

Re: Joint Stereo

2005-11-30 Thread Steve Matzura
Joint_Stereo is a data-saving technique which only keeps one copy of
sound data that appears on both channels, rather than two. On older,
slower machines, regular (vs. joint) stereo MP3's sometimes produced a
wavy effect when playing back because the slower processor couldn't
keep up with encoding what was essentially two streams containing some
common elements and keep them in total synchronization. Joint_stereo
fixes this problem by removing the common data from one of the
channels and copying it from the other one. Files recorded in
joint_stereo are sometimes a little smaller than those recorded in
plain regular stereo.

Can LAME be set to produce stereo (not joint) output? Sure can. What
wrapper do you use for LAME--Easy CDDA Extractor perhaps? This
program lets you configure every known option there is for the LAME
encoder.

Hope this helps.

I just recently encountered this identical problem with Winamp. The
trick is this: If you create a playlist (a .M3U file) and save it in
the same directory where the files in it are, Winamp will not save the
full path information in the .M3U file. However, after creating your
playlist, if you save it to a different directory, such as the one you
talked about creating with all the .M3U's in it, then Winamp includes
the full path data to each media file in the .M3U playlist file.

Short version: Create your playlists as you normally do, but save
them to your special M3U directory, not to the directory where the
music files are.

Hope this helps.
