Subject: Cell phone program on notebook/laptop computers

 Hello List!

I own a Cingular 8525 PDA. I understand that this is actually a PC with a
cell phone program. What I don't know is whether or not the phone portion
of this device is the same as a regular cell phone or it is just a program
on Windows Mobile. If this is true; then why couldn't the same type
program be on a notebook or laptop computer? What is the difference? I
hear some notebooks talk of having Windows Mobile operating system on it.
If this program could fit on a notebook, then we could just use bluetooth
to access it on a bus or in a car--couldn't we? If not, then why not. We
could then run Code Factory or a similar program just to work with this
device or maybe JAWS or Window-eyes could do the job. I'm just wondering
since a PDA is a computer too with a cell phone program. Am I just
whistling dixie or is my assumption or perception correct? Do let me
 know!

Re: Wireless transmitter

2007-06-04 Thread Mike Pietruk
Too bad that Denver has a channel 6 as 87.9 often makes for a good
transmission frequency.

www.radio-locator.com

has a nice recent addition to their service in showing potential target
frequencies for a given area.
Go to the main page of www.radio-locator.com

and in the first edit box, enter your zip code.
As I didn't have that info for your particular area of the Denver area, I
entered Denver for the city and CO for the state which produces
a station listening profile for midtown denver.

On the next page click on

Vacant Frequencies

For midtown Denver, it displayed the following:

93.9 FM BEST!
91.7 FM GREAT
88.9 FM GOOD
93.7 FM GOOD
97.7 FM GOOD
Attention:
Before transmitting on an FM frequency, always check to see if the channel is
truly
vacant by listening with an FM radio. Your audio device will work best on an
empty
channel and you will be less likely to cause interference with other people's
radio
reception.

Dependent upon where in the area one is, of course, the target freqs will
vary -- and sometimes greatly.

What the list may not be able to tell you is where you may be dealing with
multipath problems or the image rejection capabilities of the receiver you
will be using to listen the transmitter with.
In problem areas, a good image rejection receiver is paramount.
While we are in a smalltown environment where you wouldn't expect such
problems, as luck would have it, we're within a mile of a transmitter
farm housing a 50kw fmer, a 3kw fmer,
a 1kw Amer, and a low-power fm translator.
After some testing, I've settled on 2 walkman style units with good image
rejection properties for my fm transmitter listening: namely, a Sangean
dt300vw and alternatively

a dt-200v also from Sangean.

These 2 radios seem to effectively cut out much of the image rejection
which most of our other radios cannot deal with.
So, I believe, even in crowded fm areas, finding a channel (perhaps not
the ideal one) usually is workable with perhaps a great deal of
frustration and time required to locate the ideal freq choice.

Plantronics Audio 550 DSP Headset

Manufacturer: Plantronics
Provided by: Plantronics
Price: $119.95 USD

Introduction:

Everyone has heard the phrase, Get your head in
the game. What's a better way to
get into the game than by absorbing the sound and
blocking outside noises? Can a
Plantronics .Audio 550 DSP headset put your head
into the game so that you can play
the game how it's supposed to be played? Let's
get these things on and find out!

Plantronics has been manufacturing lightweight
communications headsets since 1962.
Recently, the company has offered mobile headsets
and next-generation computer audio
headsets. Plantronics continues to pursue being a
trend-setter in its respective
markets.

Closer Look:

The package sets a good tone for the enclosed
product because it looks simple, professional,
and it displays the product. I like to see what
I'm getting into when I purchase
a product, so it was good to be able to see the
headset up close and personal before
I opened the package. The back of the package
lists the specifications and features
of the product with a picture of the headset all
laid out. I was also intrigued by
the message at the top of the back side of the
packaging. It boasts about how a set
of Plantronics headsets were used to communicate
from the first moon landing crew
to NASA in 1969.

Enough babbling, let's get this thing out of the
plastic! Now while it's not impossible,
it is fairly difficult to open the plastic. I had
to pry it open with quite a bit
of force and I almost thought about getting a
pair of scissors. Once it was out,
I could already tell that the cable was going to
be very long, which is a huge plus.

I'm not going to lie, I have a big head, so I had
to make sure the headset could
accommodate me, as well as other users who have
big heads. Below you can see a picture
of one side of the headset pulled down the
farthest it can go, along with the other
side pushed up as far as it can go.

The top of the headset is a very comfortable pad
which can, to an extent, move horizontally,
though it does not move vertically.

The ear cups have the same padding as the top of
the headset but slightly thicker.
The speakers themselves are 40mm large. I like
the red color of the speakers because
it goes well with black and it's discreet.

Closer Look:

The microphone is very unique on this headset.
For starters, it has a very nice level
of resistance when you pull it down. I like that
because it gives you a sense of
sturdiness; it's not going to move when you move
your head or the headset. The mobility
of the microphone isn't as good as I would like
it to be. The image on the left shows
the microphone in its up position, and the
picture on the right shows how far the
microphone can be pulled down. Something that
disappoints me is that the microphone
can't be rotated 360 degrees because I know some
people who like to have the microphone
on the right side of their headset.

Let's examine the cable now. The cable is three
meters long, so it should suffice
for most people. There is a volume control about
a foot down from the headset which
is very cool. It has 3 buttons: volume up, volume
down, and mute. The mute button
is very useful because it mutes only your
microphone, so you can still hear others.
When you have mute on, the outer ring of the button glows red.

Down the wire you'll find an orange band that has
7 different languages telling you
to go to www.plantronics.com/downloads and get
the PerSono software. I think this
is kind of weak because what if you don't have internet access?

Before I forget, the cable is connected via USB.
Near the bottom of the cable is
a little casing surrounding the cable which
displays the Plantronics logo and the
technology that the headset uses (DSP - Digital Sound Processing).

Installation:

To install your headset, just plug it into a free
USB port. The only down side to
installing it is that the headset disables your
speakers immediately. Now, go to
the download page on Plantronics' website and
download the PerSono software and install
it.

Configuration:

The software which you use for the headset is
called PerSono. It is a small program
that goes hand-in-hand with the Windows audio
controls. There are two different tabs
- headphone and microphone. Under the headphone
tab, you can change the balance,
bass, and treble of your headphones, as well as
which style you'd like to have on.
The different

2007-06-04 Thread Steve Pattison
You are probably supposed to get a friend to burn the software on to
a CD for you and install it from the CD. However I've been running
this headset for about a year without the software so the software
isn't essential to be able to use the headset.

My point about using an outdoor antenna was only to point out that in order
to get the maximum distance (a mile or two) you need an outdoor antenna. If
you're just transmitting a short distance the wire antenna that comes with

My point about using an outdoor antenna was only to point out that in
 order
to get the maximum distance (a mile or two) you need an outdoor antenna.
 If
you're just transmitting a short distance the wire antenna that comes with
 the unit should suffice.

Subject: Cell phone program on notebook/laptop computers

 Hello List!

I own a Cingular 8525 PDA. I understand that this is actually a PC with
 a
cell phone program. What I don't know is whether or not the phone
 portion
of this device is the same as a regular cell phone or it is just a
 program
on Windows Mobile.
Do let me
 know!

Will they assemble it for you. Expect to cover one to two miles with a
 good

This site sells AM transmitters for under a hundred dollars.

Decade is a Canadian company that sells FM transmitters that are
ready to go on air out of the box. Frequency is by a series of dip

Another site that you may want to visit is called Hobby tron. Their

Audio CD Burning Software that Works with Windows Vista Home Premium?

2007-06-04 Thread Kenneth Washington
Hi gang,

I'm having major problems trying to get Nero Ultra 7.9 to work under
Windows Vista Home Premium. Everytime I attempt to create an audio CD
using .WAV files, the program hangs and Windows Vista prompts me to
Wait or Close.

I'm sick of it!

Can anyone suggest a good Audio CD burning program that works under
Windows Vista Home Premium. It must allow the creation of Gapless
CDs. Meaning no 2 seconds of silence will be inserted after each
track. I have a lot of Live CDs to burn and having 2 seconds of
silence after every track takes away from the listening enjoyment.

Thanks for any help.

That would explain why I can't find the encoder alone then I guess. That's
too bad.

The encoder is included in the SAM Broadcaster ... They don't sell it
seperately ... That is the reason it is $299.
The reason I know is because I use it.

 Ok,

I went to the spatial audio website and clicked on SAM broadcaster and
 then
clicked on buy and it says $299. Am I looking at the wrong product? I
didn't see anything that cheap there.

Re: SAM encoder for winamp

2007-06-04 Thread Rick Harmon
I'm just not too bright tonight. I got it working at a very low bitrate but
It's working now. I am definately interested in buying it as it's much
easier at first look to use than shoutcast is.. Thanks for putting up with
all my questions. I'm slowly learning here.

Re: transmitters

2007-06-04 Thread Chuck Adkins
Me for sure. The only thing I've heard about the Sstran from someone who
built one is they claimed they were getting a bit of hum and they weren't
sure why.

Also, keep in mind that around your yard during the day, may not be around
your yard at night because of the other stuff on freq during sunset times.

I'm going to be following with interest the appearance of nighttime IBOC
here in the US which I understand is coming up very very shortly, possibly
within 30 to 45 days.
