RE: sam party dj
To a certain extent yes it will. Unfortunately for us, it uses a delfi interface which means you'll get littlt to no access without doing some jiggery pokery with jaws. However, the playlist queue history and the like are accessible enough to be able to navigate through them. There are keyboard shortcuts for play/pause, stop fastforward press to talk and lock talk so no problems there. Do a Google on UK proxy. There are a few around. While I haven't tried this, I am also advised that Proxify offers a UK proxy at http://www.proxify.co.uk. Strange Winamp=with-JAWS Behavior since Winamp 5.35
I don't know if this is a JAWS issue or a Winamp issue, but I gotta start somewhere, so I picked here. With the introduction of 5.35, I have noticed a difference in the behavior of the jump-to-time dialog (CTRL/J). Formerly, when pressing CTRL/J, JAWS would read the dialog just as it always did, and include the line beneath the edit field that contained the total track length. Starting with Winamp Version 5.35, the line with the total track length is no longer automatically spoken. There are no scripts or frames or anything specific to JAWS associated with this dialog, which is what really puzzles me about this. Why, or how, would this behavior change, or what would cause or have caused it to be changed, and, of course, what can be done to put it back? Now, before you all reach for the reply key and tel me that the information I desire can be gotten from the CTRL+JAWS-key+T screen, I know that, and that's not the point. I'm interested to know what broke the old behavior and how to restore it. I already well know other ways of getting it. Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 10:57 AM Subject: an interesting DVD writing experience Greetings my fellow audio heads, Gotta share this with yall. Recently had an interesting experience with writing data files to a DVD. Every 3 months or so I backup all of my important data files. I've got office 2002 on this thing and I use nero ultra version 6 to do the DVD and CD writing stuff; and I make it a common practice to do a backup of all of my backups just in case something goes awry. Well as the fates would have it something did indeed go quite awry. After creating the primary burn and testing to see if everything came out as it should I found that some of the data files read perfectly while quite a few failed to read at all. Ran every test in the book and still couldn't find any answers to why this happened. I then substituted the secondary backup DVD of the files and found that it not only read the files perfectly from the rom but just as flawless when reloaded back into the PC. My quandry here is what could have caused such a bum write with the primary DVD. I've been burning audio now for 6 years and have never seen that one till now. What do yall think could have happened? Pleased that I was able to solve things, but at the same time stumped. Re: an interesting DVD writing experience
It's hard to say what may have happened. It could be a bad dvd or a dirty lens or your computer was doing something in the backround causing the data to come up false. I've written dvds and had them come up bad. If that happens to me I usually restart my machine incase it's a memory problem and I get a fresh dvd. Often times that will correct a problem. A good choice is rewriteable dvds since you can write over them if there is a problem and I use them now and again for my work here. Another way to go might be to buy a good USB hard drive since there reasonably cheap now. Hope this information helps. *** REPLY SEPARATOR *** On 8/28/2007 at 10:57 AM nick danger wrote: Greetings my fellow audio heads, Gotta share this with yall. Delta soundcard problem.
HiGang: For some reason, I am unable to adjust the volume, balance, or mute options of my Delta 66 using the DeltaPannel software. I can, however, affect some changes using the standard windows XP Volume ap. The main problem is that I am unable to rout hardware inputs to hardware outputs. I am only able to use WaveOut. I did uninstall and re-install the DeltaPanel software. For the Record: I am using a Duel 2 core processor and Media Center. Any help would be appreciated all over the place. Thanks gang. Re: sam party dj
Hi, Rusty: Glad my quickie-how-to was helpful to you. You don't have to press ESCAPE to enter the search window. Just start typing something and it opens. The list of songs can be found by tabbing past all the checkboxes. Don't back-tab (Shift + TAB), that will only get you back to whatever window you were on before you started searching. It's a little quirky that way--you just have to press TAB about six times and then you hit the list. There is a document that comes with SAM Broadcaster, I don't even know if it's part of the DJ program or not, that references most of, it not all, the functions in the PAL scripting language. That's what I used as a learning tool. The language itself is very Pascal-like. It has numeric and string variables and comparators, lots of interesting string functions (string within string, string concatenation, string to numeric and vice versa, etc.), and some very useful time and timing functions. These are all explained in a docunent called PAL Reference.RTF or some RTF with a very similar name. They even give you a program development environment which looks like and cooks like the old Borland stuff and is generally very speech-friendly. Hope this helps some more. Does anyone know if it is possible to find archived games on minorleaguebaseball.com? Hi Tiffany, I'm not sure if there is a special reason why you want version 5.34 but version 5.35 which is the latest official version of Winamp can be downloaded from www.whitestick.co.uk/progs/winamp535_full.exe. If you really want version 5.34 you might have to search a bit to find it seeing it is no longer the latest version. At 09:56 AM 29/08/2007, you wrote: Where can I get Winamp version 5.34? Re: sam party dj
Hi Steve Does Sam work well with Jaws 8? Regards Gordon McFarlane - Original Message - From: Steve Matzura [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 12:08 AM Subject: Re: sam party dj Hi, Rusty: On Mon, 27 Aug 2007 09:18:05 -0400, you wrote: I'm wondering if anyone has experience with sam party dj using we 6.1? I've downloaded and installed the demo, which I believe functions for fifteen days. I loaded my music into its data base but do not know how to proceed. What is the playlist extension in this program? Any tips as to how to get started? I'm going out on a limb here and assuming two things: (1) Window-Eyes 6.1 is not substantially different than 5.5. (2) SAM Party DJ is not significantly different from SAM Broadcaster, other than the obvious point of not containing the broadcasting code. If the two above statements are true, more or less, hopefully mostly more, then here are a few things to get started. 1. After all your music is loaded, assuming your MP3 tags are good, you can start playing randomly selected music simply by pressing F1. F2 is pause, F3 is stop. F4 is next randomly chosen song. Shift F3 and Shift F4 are supposed to apply a fade before performing their actions, but I haven't always seen this work right. Don't take that to mean anything except that I probably screwed up when trying it. 2. The canned script that runs will play things from all your music categories just to get you started so you can hear how SAM sounds. If you want a specific category to play, you'll have to create your own script to do this, or modify the default one. This is extremely easy to do, and the script is really only one line long, you just have to do a bit of studying to learn what the parameters to the category function are, then you can write anything you want. 2. To add a song to the play queue manually, just scroll through the list until you find the one you want, or start typing its title or artist and the search panel will automatically open and find what you're searching for. Note the various check boxes in the search panel which can help you narrow or widen your search by just about anything that appears in the MP3 tag specification. The neat thing about this panel is that as you type, songs that match the checked search criteria appear in a scrollable list. Enter as much search criteria as you think you need, then tab to the scrollable list and select what you want queued. The default action is to add to the top or front of the queue by pressing ENTER. You can route the mouse pointer to the scrollable list and right-click to see all the other options, which include add to top of queue, add to bottom of queue, delete menu, and others. When you're done with the search panel, press ESCAPE to close it. 3. SAM playlists are not the same as Winamp playlists. In fact, I'm really not sure what they're for or how they're used. I'll look into this for you if you like on my SAM Broadcaster installation. 4. Without additional scripting, SAM will play forever, queueing one song at a time to the play queue. There are ways, via the scripting language they give you, to queue many songs, tell how long it will take to play them, and perform other actions on songs and queues. But this should be sufficient to get you started. An additional tip: Keep as few windows open as possible on the SAM desktop. I usually only keep the playlist and history windows open so that I can browse or use the search feature in the main category window and see what's been played in the history window for when I want to do a voice break and say what's been played. The nice thing is that even if you have many windows open, like the play queue, history, voice effects, category, etc., you can move among them with the TAB key and the screen is redrawn to accommodate the in-focus window so you don't get any overlap or window bleed-through. Sometimes, though, if you open too many windows, some windows may get resized smaller. That's because SAM tries to keep everything visible at all times. However, if there are too many open windows, SAM has to make some decisions about how much of a window needs to be shown without blocking out something else. That's where you get the truncation effect I just described. Three or four windows should not pose this difficulty, though. Hope this helps. RE: sam party dj
Until you told me about the shift f11 thing, I had set up a frame for clickint the lock talk button, and one for the mic on/off toggle. However, where we run into trouble is unless you do a say line with jaws, you got no idea where you are that is to say in the queue and playlist scroll lists. That's a pain but it works well enough. The other pain is the constant updating of information in the queue and the mp3 encoder list jaws will constantly speak it if it's highlighted so you need to be careful with that also. You just need to think outside the box with it is all. As far as I know, Sound Forge 8.0 cannot be installed on Vista. You would have to upgrade to Sound Forge 9.0 to use the program on Vista. One of my Vista concerns is that it will not run some programs that were designed for XP. So, yes you do indeed have advantages with new Vista audio alternatives, but you may also find that a necessary element of the upgrade is to upgrade software as well. And in some cases, there could be software packages that the developer has abandoned. While these audio aspects are no reason to reject Vista, it seems to me that they must be considered when deciding whether or not to upgrade to Vista. Just my two cents for whatever it's worth. Larry - Original Message - From: Edwin [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, July 28, 2007 7:48 PM Subject: Audio on Windows Vista Hi All, I recently tried playing with Windows Vista and thought of asking some audio related questions as I am still in the midst of exploring. I got to say that, if vista matures a little further as time progresses, its worthwhile the upgrade just for the audio part. 1 very big bonus is that we could now control indivisual volume controls through the mixer. For example, if we are listening to real player streams, on xp systems, when u tune down the volume, it utilise the wav volume and this would affect our screen readers too. However, on vista, u could indivisually set the current active application's volume level. In this case, u could have different levels for your screen reader and real player. This is especially benificial for jaws as eloquence of jaws on xp system uses the main level of the volume control of your soundcard. But, I am just a bit puzzled. If such a powerful volume mixer exists in vista, why there isn't a volume control icon on the startup group like in xp? I know 1 could just go to control panel and go in to the sounds item to select our sources and go in to the properties page to set them, however, i find slightly of a hassel to do that. Of-course I could just create a shortcut of the sndvol32.exe at the start menu. Any intake from listers on this? Next, though not completely audio related, but someword related. I tried installing Sound Forge 8.0D in vista. I got a msg that SF needs .frame network 1.1. I tried installing but got some error message and my .dot frame network couldn't be installed. Does listers know why is this so and is there a work around? Finally, its regarding vista's windows media centre. I understand that we could setup our tv-tuner card to work with WMC and use it to set schedules and recordings etc and just use it without installing any related pvr softwares, as in xp. Currently, I have a cable set top box attached to my card. When I tried configuring it and told it that my card is attached to a external set top box, it told me that I need a microsoft remote control or something of that sort. I am a bit puzzled on this. How exactly does this work? Is WMC any accessible at all? Have I done anything wrong? Thanks all and hope to get any relevant input from listers who have experience with vista and its audio. Thanks.
