For a long time now I have seen messages about how accessible Total Recorder
is, and so I went to downloads.com a few days back and downloaded Total
Recorder and Audio Editor. To say that it was anything but accessible would
be nothing short of a lie.

Obviously, I must not have gotten the right program. Can someone give me a
good link for downloading the software.

Thanks,

Total Recorder V7.0 Will Be Released Soon

2007-11-01 Thread Jani Kinnunen
Hi,

I thought some people might be interested in the following pre-announcement.

Jani

Total Recorder V7.0 Will Be Released Soon!

High Criteria Inc., the world leader in computer audio recording systems,
announces the upcoming release of Total Recorder Version 7.0 and New Version
of
Video Add-on!

Total Recorder v7.0 is now becoming more powerful functionally and obtaining
more new features for users. New Total Recorder's kernel mode Driver offers
the following solutions:

list of 2 items
. Total Recorder is now fully compatible with Windows Vista (without any
limitations).

. There is no sound distortion when recording the sound from applications,
which involve the use of DirectSound (for instance, Skype 3.x).

list end

Total Recorder V7.0 Standard Edition offers a number of new features
including:

list of 3 items
. The feature of exporting/importing Total Recorder's settings and scheduled
jobs is added. It can be useful if you need to reinstall your system, move
Total Recorder from one computer to another one and for backup.

. In the new version of the program you can rename one file or a batch of
files from playlist using tag information.

. New version of Total Recorder is distinguished by higher speed and better
file compression when encoding files to FLAC format due to using the latest
version of FLAC sources.

list end

Total Recorder Professional Edition Version 7.0 includes all updates
released in the Standard Edition and has the additional changes:

list of 2 items
. Total Recorder offers the unique TimeShift feature which enables you to
exercise simultaneous listening and recording. It means that you can record
the
audio file and listen to it without waiting for the recording process to be
finished. You can also listen to the file from any position while recording
it.

. Cue-sheet files are now supported by Total Recorder. ?ue-points can be
created:
- Manually, e.g. to make a bookmark in a sound file.
- Automatically during recording session based on pause reduction, changes
of clip info in an external player, etc.
- Automatically during capturing Internet transmission when information
about a track is changed (if such information is provided by server).
A file can be splited at any time using CUE-points.

list end

We are currently working on implementing capture (rip) of
Internet-broadcasts in MP3, WMA and Ogg Vorbis formats directly without
decoding and re-encoding
(in addition to the ability of recording Internet-broadcasts of various
formats via external players). During recording you will also be able to
listen
to the steaming audio from any position of the broadcast you have already
captured.

New version of Video Add-on includes the following features:

list of 5 items
. Support of video files of the following formats is added: - Digital Video
(DV); - Windows Media Video (WMV) formats. We are currently working on
implementing
support of MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats.

. You can watch and record TV programs from TV-turner.

. Ability to record from digital DV format camera, connected to PC via
IEEE1394 interface.

. Built-in feature of turning off Video Acceleration for screen recording (a
separate utility was intended for this purpose previously).

. Performance characteristics are enhanced, so playback is improved and
saving of video files becomes faster.

list end

Our developers now are working on support simultaneous watching and
recording of Internet WMV streams.

2007-11-01 Thread Adrian Spratt
Hi, Arthur.

This is surely asked and answered, but as a 5.35 user, how do I stop Winamp
from elbowing in and demanding I upgrade to 5.5? Alternatively, how do I
make Windows Media Player my default, as I attempted without success earlier
today?

hi all, i've recently upgraded from winamp 5.35 to 5.5 and now have a really
irritating problem. before, with 5.35, i could put a cd in the drive, select
play audio cd and it would play the whole cd without a break. however now,
it seems to be checking for a valid entry online via one of the online
databases after each track. if it can't find a match, it stops playing and
tells me so and asks if i want to submit a new entry. i don't mind if this
for the first track, but it does it for each individual track and it's
bugging me. how can i stop winamp doing this? i want it to behave like
before, where it would just carry on playing whether it had a match or not.
i've looked through preferences and i can't find anything that would seem to
be an obvious solution. kevin - (lord l) "Civilization exists by geological

Re: Another Way to Convert Files Using Winamp

2007-11-01 Thread Michael Lang
Hi Steve,

I like your conversion method, because one can choose some formats,
which theDiskWriter PlugIn doesn't handle. However, I can't start the
conversion, after I've configured the format PlugIn. With the
DiskWriter PlugIn, one simply plays the file to convert it, but this
doesn't work with the format PlugIn. Does one first have to put the
file into the media library?

Thanks

Re: Milestone 311

2007-11-01 Thread Keith Gillard
Hi,

It is the combination of Mode plus any one of the five buttons on the front
of the recorder.

Note that the unit appears to be more reliable if you hold down the mode
button and wait a second or two prior to pressing the folder button you
want.

That's because you have a checkbox checked that tells it to play the
entire bufferful of stuff, not stop immediately. There is definitely
a way around that one. I forget exactly how the checkbox is worded,
but it probably has words in it like "stop immediately", or something
to do with pause and stop.

winamp 5.5 problem

2007-11-01 Thread kevin and Emma
hi all, i've recently upgraded from winamp 5.35 to 5.5 and now have a really
irritating problem. before, with 5.35, i could put a cd in the drive, select
play audio cd and it would play the whole cd without a break. however now, it
seems to be checking for a valid entry online via one of the online databases
after each track. if it can't find a match, it stops playing and tells me so
and asks if i want to submit a new entry. i don't mind if this for the first
track, but it does it for each individual track and it's bugging me. how can i
stop winamp doing this? i want it to behave like before, where it would just
carry on playing whether it had a match or not. i've looked through preferences
and i can't find anything that would seem to be an obvious solution.

Anyone had this issue? I run an internet station.
It seems like once a week or so, in no predictable time, I'll lose my link.
In other words I have to re-connect the shoutcast plugin.
This is starting to become annoying.
Any ideas?

Hey just wanted to drop a quick thank you for that mini tutorial. I remember
the first time back in version 2.something, I converted my first mp3 to wav
and didn't know about switching plugins back and forth. I thought I broke my
machine instead I had about 30 large wave files and no sound was coming out.
good times
anyway I don't think I would use winamp for converting but I had to thank
you for writing a nice concise mini tutorial that actually was correct and
made sense.

Another Way to Convert Files Using Winamp

2007-11-01 Thread Steve Pattison
Following on from Chris's very comprehensive message about converting
files in winamp there is another way to do this. 1) Go into the
Winamp preferences and go to the plug-ins section. 2) In plug-ins
go to the Media Library section. 3) Tab twice to get to the list of
plug-ins associated with the media library. The plug-in you need to
choose to convert files is called the Nullsoft format
Converter. 4) Tab once to the "Configure Selected Plug-In" button
and press space on that button. You will then be given several
options and a large number of audio formats to choose from before you
convert the file. So now you have two methods to choose from if you
want to convert files using winamp. I hope this helps.

this is a bit lengthy, how to convert files using winamp

2007-11-01 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hello everyone

 I've seen some
questions about this on a couple lists so I thought I'd write this
up. It is a bit lengthy as the subject line says but I hope you'll
stick with it. A while ago, the subject of converting files using
Winamp came up, and I thought I'd explain the process in some detail
for those who are interested. Unfortunately, real audio files don't
really work well with Winamp nowadays. At least, that's been my
experience. If anyone's been able to get them to play in Winamp 5.5,
please please let me know!

However, if you have a WMA file that you want as an mp3, or if you
have a cd track as a wav file that you want as an mp3, you can use
Winamp's discwriter plugin to do this task.
So, here's how you do it, step by step. Remember, if you have an
interest in this, save the e-mail somewhere and go back to it later
so you can perform the steps.

Ok, here we go!

1. Fire up Winamp, you knew that one would be in there.

2. now find the file that you want to convert and open it up in
Winamp, either by pressing enter on it or through the open file dialogue.
3. Ok, now press the letter v to stop it, we don't want it to keep playing.
4. now here's where the fun starts. go to the preferences, control
plus p of course.
5. go to the plugins section and then choose output in the tree view.

6. now tab over to the list of plugins, and focus on the one called
the Nullsoft Discwriter plugin, your version number may vary but it
all comes to the same.

7. now, it's time to configure it so that we can tell what type of
file to convert to.
so tab to the configure button.

8. now you're going to be in a dialogue with some buttons in it. the
first one will determine where your output file, that is to say your
converted file will be saved. you may hear something like, output file
location c:\doccuments and settings...my music button.
If you press that button, a dialogue will pop up and you can then
determine where your file will be saved.
9. now that you've done that, you'll be back in the dialogue, and the
next thing you'll see is a checkbox that says, output to directory
containing source files, and by default, this is unchecked. This is
so that you can have your converted file in exactly the same folder
as the original file was.
so check that if you want the file to go there, i would do that for
simplicities sake. You can always move it later.
10. Next checkbox you'll see says, display save as dialogue for every
file. This is so that if you're converting an entire list of files,
you'll be able to determine where each file goes. I would imagine
that you would probably want them all to go in the same folder, but
maybe not? so check that if you like, i normally leave it as is
because usually I'm only converting one file. This is unchecked by default.
11. Next up, we have a combo box that determines if there are or
numbers at the beginning of your outputted file name.
the choices you have are, disabled, 1 digit, 2 digits, 3 digits and
4 digits.
I can't imagine why anyone would actually want 4 digits, that is
unless you're converting literally thousands of files, which i've
never done and probably won't ever do. If I'm converting something
from an album i like to at least have a number at the beginning of
the file name, 01, or 02, depending on where you are in the playlist of files.
but if you want to disable this, you can.

12. Next, we have a combo box that determines the title format, the
one by default is % title %. this means you get the % which equals
the first 2 numbers like we mentioned before, artist name, title and
then the track name. so i would keep that as is.

13. Next we have output file type, and the choice is set to auto
recommended. this is so you can choose different file formats. and
after that there is a checkbox that says enable single mode, which
I'm not sure about. so leave auto recommended as is, and the single
mode check box on my system is unchecked.
14. Ok, now we're getting to the good part here, hang with me
folks! this next checkbox will determine wether or not Winamp
actually remembers what file you convert to a lot, so if you convert
to mp3 a lot, leave this checkbox checked so you can just perform the
final few steps.
Now, tab once again and you'll land on a button that determines what
file you can actually convert your file to. for mine in particular,
this button says,
MPEG layer 3 192KBPS, 44.1 K Hertz, stereo
that's usually what i convert to, but if you want something
different, you can press this button and you can change the file
type, bitrate and sampling rate of your file. Note that if you don't
have the radium codec installed, you won't be able to convert to
