I am very sorry to see that Yahoo's Music unlimited is being
discontinued, or I should say combined with Rapsity. I like Yahoo's service
very well. I'm afraid Rapsity will be more dificult not to mention more
expensive.

Marsha, Napster is cheaper, quite accessible and incidentally does not
exclude those of us who live in Canada, the way that so many American
services do. I know that in Canada you can try the service for a week before
your credit card is charged. In the States there are promo codes out there
which allow a 2 week trial.

Hope this helps.

Re: Yahoo's Music Unlimited Being Discontinued

2008-02-23 Thread Larry N
Yes it has stations and their quality is quite good. The limitation there is
that they claim to be jaws compliant which they are, but the stations
don't work with Window-Eyes. I have both, so I've been able to confirm the
accuracy of that claim. I'd be interested to hear if any Window-Eyes users
have been able to make the stations work as that is the screen reader that I
prefer to use when possible and practical.

You can also play many of the tracks on the service, and download them for
use for as long as you subscribe.

The only down side is that some tracks, too many in my view, are only
available for purchase. It seems to me that if you are paying $10 a month,
you should be able to download all tracks on the service for use as long as
you are a subscriber without paying extra to purchase them if that is your
choice. My own trial period is nearing its end, and if I don't continue as a
subscriber, that one down side will be the reason why.

Hope this helps you.

Bruce, it's interesting that you say what you said about Easy CD-DA
Extractor. I'm not a huge Nero fan and have been looking at Easy CD as an
alternative. This leads to 2 questions.

First, is it possible to set diffent pause lengths between individual tracks
on one Cd. For instance, 2 seconds between tracks 2 and 3, 1 second between
4 and 5 and 0 seconds between 7 and 8. If so, how is this accomplished?

Secondly, I've heard that in Easy CD version 11, the F8 key no longer works
as a burn CD or rip command. Is this true, and if so, what's the workaround?

Thanks for any and all responses.

Re: Nero

2008-02-23 Thread Caroline
Hi. In looking at the audio section of the program, it appears that,
although you can set a gap between each track, it doesn't appear that you
can actually change it between tracks, so once it's set for one it's the
same for all. I could be wrong about this. For anyone who purchases this
program though using a screen-reader, I'd be curious to know if you're
successful. On at least three different machines, using three different
screen-readers, we were finding it impossible to get past the first purchase
screen where they ask for name, address, and how you want to pay for the
program. I ended up having to have someone without a screen-reader complete
the purchase for me. The program is absolutely worth every penny, and it's
a great all-purpose program.

creating podcast tutorial and listserve creation question

2008-02-23 Thread Dan Thompson
Hi All,
I am looking for a good tutorial that is very detailed as to how to setup
for creating podcast, creating a podcast and the programs needed. I think a
lady first name Anna, last name I can't remember has written such a book.
Also if in the same information where I can get the program Juice or the
best program for creating/acccessing podcast.
I want to put together a series of tutorials on various software for
students at our school and to be placed on our webpage.

Earlier this month I asked how to create a listserve for our Alumni. I did
get a contact from Bill and wrote to this person with no response yet.
But I do genuinely am thankful for that contact and maybe this person will
yet write back.
I have managed to create a group on Yahoo called isvi_alumni but can not
for the life of me figure how to add new members and have a subscriptioon
email sent out.
I would be glad to pay someone for information or time on a phone for tech
help..

I have written Yahoo a few times but they just keep wanting to sign me up
for another account and don't quite get my question. Even though I have
very clearly asked How do I add members to my existing account.
Sorry for the longer than usual email and I am sorry for not posting enough
information others can use here. I will start putting up more solutions in
the future. But I hope someone can help.
If someone would email me off list I will give them my home and cell phone
numbers or whatever they wish. Thanks so much for this listserv being
availlable for us who have so many question. I genuinely mean that and
tsend a personal thanks to the list owner.

Hi Dan,
I don't know of a free sound editor, but as far as getting your podcasts
in to an mp3 format, I use a program called razorlame which is free and I
can email you that off list.
You'll need a place to put the finished files after you've recorded them
maybe your school district has space on their server? Also getting the feed
in to juice, you can creat a feed really easily for free at:

Re: creating podcast tutorial and listserve creation question

2008-02-23 Thread Jeffrey Dunn

Hi Dan:

Basically anything that facilitates recording and editing is good.
If you got those, you'll want to produce your recording and
then prepare it for upload.

The preparation of an audio for podcast should follow these principals.

1. File format is optimized for fastest download with the best audio.
This would mean usingcompression and or normalization in
your recordings but this is not truly necessary unless you want
to sound great.

It will also mean mp3 bit rates less than 96 .

Fwd: wish list for Window-Eyes Winamp features in script files ...

2008-02-23 Thread Steve Pattison
Unfortunately Jeff's email address wasn't included in the following message I'm
passing on which was forwarded to the GW Micro list. -Steve.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jeff Bishop

Hello Everyone,

Here is your chance to insure that when 7.0 of Window-Eyes ships that Winamp
sings and dances with new features. Send me a listing of those things you
would like Winamp to be able to do. With the new Window-Eyes scripting
capabilities it is all possible.

Let me tell you what is already in place:

  * Play list navigation (including moving of tracks).

  * Equalizer band settings and panning settings.

  * Relative time jump movement.

  * Timed bookmarks (setting with key M, review with a dialog box all timed
bookmarks, move backward and forward by timed bookmark, jump to bookmark using
number row keys for the first 10 timed bookmarks and more).

  * Right click on selected track in play list using shift+f10.

  * Move to playing track in play list.

  * Toggle between different Time modes: Total Track Time, Elapsed Track Time,
Remaining Track Time And System Time.

  * Color Training Mode for Play list selection and playing colors.

  * Hotkey Manager dialog to manage hotkeys of Winamp scripts.

There is more, but those are the main highlights.

If you want more (excluding the media library) then speak up now.

  Jeff.

Re: Can you recommend good ear buds for not more than $100?

2008-02-23 Thread Don Ball
sony phontopia earbuds are the best. the model number mdr-ex71 are the best
rated time after time. These have a deep real bass and a good treble. you
can find the on ebay for as little as $15 and on froogle for about $25. Hope
you find them. You will love them altho they are not as rugged as some of
the more expensive buds.

I just got JVC noise-cancelling headphones from Comp USA for $40 (reduced
from $50). They have a braille L and R on each side--I thought that was
cool. Anyway, they sound great--you can hear the full range of pitches.

Why do you need ear budds over 100 bucks, anyway? Heh just curious. Anyway,
I've got a pair of earphones here (I know you said earbudds, but I'm just
throwing this out there). There senniecer, I'll grab the model number if
you
want. They're noise canceling headphones, actually I think they're sony,
yeah that would be it, which I got from best buy for 80 bucks. JVC is also
a
good brand.

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

Can you recommend good ear buds for not more than $100? The only
experience I have is with ear buds that come with an audio device. I'd
  like
to get something a little more serious. I'm considering the Bose ear
  buds
for $99.95. Have you tried them? I really can't get into the $400
  bracket.
