you can buy the separate plug-in, but like you say, it costs 5 times as much
as
the goldwave program. the pop and click filter in goldwave works pretty
good, but
when it comes to removing things like air conditioner noise, or buzzes, it
could
be improved upon.
goldwave's best asset is that it is (cheap) you get what you pay for.

Yeah ok but Sound Forge (unless I'm wrong these days) is ten times the
price is it not? Let's face it, you "get what you pay for" in some
cases and if you really wanted a better Noise Reduction Plug-in
(assuming that the one from Goldwave is as bad as you say it is) then
it was my understanding that you could buy the Sound Forge Noise
Reduction system as a separate plug-in?

And they said it is the the Volume control recording settings.
I have searched all over the Volume and can find nothing about this.

My sound system is an on-board sound card.

Hello Dane,
I have been setting on the fence for quite a while as far as audio editors
go.
I am currently using Studio Recorder right now.
But it won't let me remove the hissing noise of cassette and reel to reel
tapes.
I am looking for something that will allow me to do this so that I can make
clean sounding CD's.
You said that Gold Wave won't take Pay Pal.
Will they take credit cards of any kind?

only slight irritation is that Goldwave Inc won't take paypel so that
means I have to send a money order and I'm kept on tender hooks for a
week or so

Re: Goldwave Tutorial

2008-03-03 Thread Vinny Samarco
Hi,
Doc says his tutorial is from there. However, the tem-part tutorial can be
found by tgoing to

www.for-the-people.com
TThen you have to join, which does not cost anything. After joing go back
to the home page, go to the link galaxy of stars, then go to the link
presentations, and look for goldwave classes. This is by someone named
Dennis or Start button. These tutorials are a good intro, by parts of them
are out-of-date, and there are some mistakes in them. Nevertheless, they
will give you a good overall view of the program. Rick Harmon's are also
very fine and I think they are at blindgeekzone.

I heard from a tech support rep at Freedom Scientific today. He
affirms that, as far as he knows, SilverLight is not accessible to
JAWS. In fact, the program might have been developed specifically so
that only a mouse could invoke the SilverLight player. (Thanks again

Gary, I got that same message after switching from the SilverLight

past Friday. However, today I received some positive results: I
loaded the GameDay Audio page, chose a feed I wanted to hear, logged
in with my password, and realized that Internet Explorer had
remembered my preference for the classic media player. I didn't have
to select it again. And after getting past the security prompts, the
game played just fine and with much better and more consistent audio
quality than I had remembered from 2007.
>
> somehow I thought that I may have clicked on the TV feed by accident.

During spring training, interestingly enough, some of those TV feeds
actually are viewable by those who haven't paid the $14.99/month--or
whatever it is--to watch the live TV games. MLB.com makes those
available to us as a promotional thing, of course, so that people who
benefit from the visuals will buy the MLB video package. You probably
know that you can opt for a certain home team or road team audio feed
just by clicking on the name of the flagship station where the program
airs in the radio world. For instance, I caught part of the St.
Louis-Washington game earlier today and was able to go straight to it
by clicking on the link labeled WWWT, which is the name of the
Washington Nationals' flagship station this season. Usually the video
feeds, while not named after a station, are named by the type or speed
of the Web stream: such as 750K or 400K.
Happy listening. Play ball!

sounds common sense to me but I don't know why you mention "blind

Re: Goldwave Audio Editor

2008-03-03 Thread Gary G Schindler
you can buy the separate plug-in, but like you say, it costs 5 times as much as
the goldwave program. the pop and click filter in goldwave works pretty good,
but
when it comes to removing things like air conditioner noise, or buzzes, it
could
be improved upon.
goldwave's best asset is that it is (cheap) you get what you pay for.

Reduction system as a separate plug-in?

nothing.
So I am wondering at this point, does EQ software exist at all?

I expect a noise reduction package to work better than it does, and a

Re: more GW?

2008-03-03 Thread Gary G Schindler
you have to create a whole new sound window to paste the vocal track in to it.
then find the proper place you want to place the music to coincide with the
vocal,
save it with whatever file name you like.

Re: The removal of beautiful noise

2008-03-03 Thread Dane Trethowan
I don't want to brag but I think you'll be very happy with the Mac,
its a slightly different ball game but you'll notice a huge difference
immediately when you start to use the machine, well I certainly did
when I started using an Ibook 2 years ago, they were the Power PC
chips then and the Intel Mac machines I'm using now just leave that
one for dead! I'd still be satisfied using the Ibook if I still had it
today! thought I'd mention this to perhaps put things into a bit of
perspective if you see what I'm getting at.
Anyway good luck when you're ready and I'm sure you'll find plenty of
people and such like around to give you a bit of a hand or point you
in the right direction.

RE: zenstone question

2008-03-03 Thread albert griffith

High List members,
I was on the Gold Wave website yesterday evening, I saw a peace of multitrack
mixing software that's called Multiquence.
How user friendly is this software with Jaws and other screen readers?

Re: looking for a stand-alone soft e q.

2008-03-03 Thread Brent Harding

software would give you dynamics processing and probably not much
equalization beyond that, has an unknown state of accessibility because I
never used it, and is probably expensive.

Now I'm glad we're talking about noise reduction and noise removal as
I've found a most useful tool in this game in amadeus Pro which makes
the penciling of crackles just about accessible to the blind user so I
don't need sighted assistance when doing this any longer, here's how
it works.
You're playing or skimming through a track and you hear a pop, crackle
or such like? Stop the playback immediately after you hear the noise
and press "p", this makes a selection round the noise and you can
press "shift-P" to play back the noise as though it were pencilled
out, if you don't like it then press "command-z" to undo what you've
done, adjust further settings in preferences so how neat is that? The
selection around the sound for pencilling is about a quarter of a
second but this can be changed in preferences.

RE: Creative ZenStone

2008-03-03 Thread albert griffith
While use of its software isn't essential it does give you information you
wouldn't otherwise have. The degree to which it's charged, a check for
updates feature, a read out on how much free space you have and the ability
to rip tracks directly to it. so, it's not accurate to state there's no
need for it.

You really don't need any software or JAWS scripts to use the zen stone, in
fact I really don't understand why people think this is necessary. If you
have the one gig model, there is absolutely no need for any additional
software. Simply use the USB cable to charge the unit when plugging it into
the USB port, a full charge of the battery takes about 3 to 4 hours. After
that, you can simply copy and paste any music or audio books using
traditional copy and paste methods just like any other drive in windows
explorer. It's a whole lot easier than a lot of people might think.

Re: Goldwave Audio Editor

2008-03-03 Thread Curtis Delzer
It is quite ok if used properly, but certainly not if not. :) I use the NR
in SF because I am use to it, but when I really tried using GW, with it's
auto capture with a decent noise sample, it worked quite well.

Yes I understand that. But with plugins you can add functuionality to
programs that you already like. As blind people we have to sometimes try
other things as work arounds and plugins are a good way to do that without
scrapping your favorite program for a feature or two. Am I right on this
point? What do you think.

the biggest complaint I have about Goldwave is that the noise reduction
isn't very
good at all. Soundforge is much better in this respect. I used to like the
Diamond
Cut programs for noise reduction too, but for editing files for a blind
person was
and probably still is difficult. if studio recorder from APH had some kind
of
noise reduction, I might have sprung for it, but it is pricy, so if I am
going to
shell out money, I'll buy soundforge again. wavepad does some nice things
too, but
seemed rather limited in what it does do so I quit using it. I thought it
could be
a little easier to do basic editing functions with it.

Ok, well I'm very impressed with this editing package and in a lot of
ways I believe Goldwave to be more functional and practical than Sound
Forge ever was or probably is ever likely to be, the layout of the
manual is very well done and easy to get around.
I went to the site at http://www.goldwave.com but I couldn't find a

I recorded the vocal track separately with Winamp playing the music track
in the background, then I mixed the two togetehr using Gold Wave. There
are other ways to do it, this is my prefered way.

 and set

However, there are tasks that DC6 performs better than any piece of
 software
that I've ever used. For instance, it has excellent hiss reduction and
comprehensive noise reduction. The down side is that its manual is
 difficult
 to use with speech.

And Sound Forge? I truly feel that I get less out of it than I
 probably
should, simply due to a lack of understanding. For instance, Sound
 Forge
works with editable files which are made into and edited from what the
program calls regions. What is a region? I'm not exactly sure, nor
 am I

 its hefty

that generated by a vinyl LP and edit out pops clicks and extraneous
 noise,
then burn it onto a CD using Sound Forge only. Others in this group
 can do
so, however I have not succeeded as yet.

Meanwhile, with the exception of actually burning the CD, I can edit a
project from start to finish using either GoldWave or DC6,

To be entirely fair, I can perform some tasks more quickly while

My biggest knock on Sound Forge is that it is, as others have pointed out,
so overloaded with features that try to be everybody's everything.
Still, I purchased version 8.0 sometime back and would like to get all I can
from it. Can you tell me where to find its noise reduction features and how
to work with them?

As for DC 6, my only criticism would be the manual's inaccessibility.I
Haven't had a lot of trouble in getting around the program.

the biggest complaint I have about Goldwave is that the noise reduction
isn't very
good at all.

I went to the site at http://www.goldwave.com but I couldn't find a
purchase price anywhere and (to my slight annoyance) it seems that
Goldwave INC won't take paypal but if its a fair price then
I'll save to purchase this.

I've found, and this is only my personal experience, that if one

I'm not a believer in noise reduction by amateurs with any program,

What you Hear and Vista

2008-03-03 Thread Caroline
Hi everyone. I'm trying to set up my SB X-Fi sound card to use the What you
Hear option in Goldwave. The option is there, but no matter what setting I
choose, nothing changes. I even tried setting the recording source to Audio
in, which, to my thinking should record total silence, yet it still recorded
sound through my microphone. I don't know if this makes any difference or not,
but I am using a Logitech USB headset. As it stands right now, Goldwave is
working great for recording me, but I want to be able to have it record my
computer as well in certain circumstances. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Get a headset which plugs directly into the soundcard. that way, you can
simply use the microphone and / or what you hear at the same time, a lesson
I learned a while ago. USB headsets are good for some things- but bad for

media player at download.com so I'm wondering how it works with Jaws or
other screen readers.

 Hi John:

Here's the deal: I have my cable box sending audio to my delta
 soundcard
which works fine. The problem is, that I have a Q-Bass USB audio
 headset
and I would like to bridge the Delta soundcard to the Q-Bass headset
 while
also having the ability to E Q the sound. Presently, I am using the
 Virtual
Audio Cable program which works fine, as far as it goes however, I am
 not
able to alter the sound with that program.

 Thanks.

RE: zenstone question

2008-03-03 Thread albert griffith
While the zen stone can be stopped resuming at the same place in a file, it
won't hold if you switch to another file and come back to the original. It
also has no forwarding abilities, you can only jump from file to file.

Hi all, I own both the zenstone and the zenstone plus which is the 1gig
unit. I love them both, but the smaller zenstone which has the switch on top
instead of the push bar is much better to work with. You do not need any
software but as one other person mentioned, you only need to plug it into
the usb port, charge it and that is it.
You really dont need a manual but go to the blind geek web site and there
you can listen to an audio file on the zenstone.
I like the larger unit for space, but rather would own the less expensive
and more useable one instead.
Take care and that is what I know

Re: Goldwave Audio Editor

2008-03-03 Thread Dane Trethowan
I don't really see the issue here to be honest. People have stated on
this list that they do various editing tasks with Goldwave and as far
as I can see from reading the manual and from the brief play I've had
with the software, there is no reason whatever why you shouldn't get a
professional sounding edit out of Goldwave.
As to how well the Noise Reduction stuff works? Well I don't know as I
haven't tried bit but even suppose it didn't work as well as I'd
hoped, you do get what you pay for so given that Goldwave is as cheap
as chips then I personally wouldn't have any trouble paying for a
better noise reduction plug-in or whatever.

Re: more GW?

2008-03-03 Thread Brett Boyer
Make sure you have microphone checked in your recording settings in volume
control. This should prevent speech from comming through. I'm sure there is
a better way of recording your voice over music but have you thought of
recording your speech then paste mix the two files. Just insert the vocal
where you want it and gw should have presets to turn the music down or
whatever when the voice file is pasted in.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply on my query.
Yes, my cassette is in good condition.
If I just play, the sound is perfect, but when I convert the music, the
sound is not good.
The sound effect is just like mono even though I have a stereo surround
speakers in my PC.
What do you mean by settings inside the configuration need to be changed?
Like what for example?
As we followed the setting instruction for sure.
We will try if you have other suggestion on this matter.

Hi, I do use the Plus Deck, casset to PC and I'm not really sure why this
is happening to you. You should get the exact sound quality that the
casset offers. Maybe your settings inside the configuration need to be
changed.
Is your cassett in good condition?
Try it first on a tape mahcine to see if it plays correctly.
Other than that, I don't know, unless it might be your sound card or some
setting inside your PC?

Re: Goldwave Audio Editor

2008-03-03 Thread Brett Boyer
Yes I understand that. But with plugins you can add functuionality to
programs that you already like. As blind people we have to sometimes try
other things as work arounds and plugins are a good way to do that without
scrapping your favorite program for a feature or two. Am I right on this
point? What do you think.

you can use other programs, but that isn't the point. if you are to do a
professional recording, you want a good all around program that does
everything
well instead of several programs taking up unnecessary hard drive space.
frankly I
guess it is a matter of preference. If I were a professional I wouldn't use
goldwave anyway!

Can't you use better plugins? For noise reduction or do you have to use the
built-in stuff.

the biggest complaint I have about Goldwave is that the noise reduction
isn't very
good at all.

I went to the site at http://www.goldwave.com but I couldn't find a
purchase price anywhere and (to my slight annoyance) it seems that
Goldwave INC won't take paypal but if its a fair price then
I'll save to purchase this.

My problem is similar but in my case my sound card doesn't come with a E
Qfeature. though I have software for playing my music that has E q
abilities this has no affect on my software speech which comes out too
bassy. thus, the need of a software program that will work by itself and do
the same as the e q found in winamp.

MMM reply on plus deck Re: plusdeck2

2008-03-03 Thread tickpub
Hi, I do use the Plus Deck, casset to PC and I'm not really sure why this
is happening to you. You should get the exact sound quality that the
casset offers. Maybe your settings inside the configuration need to be
changed.
Is your cassett in good condition?
Try it first on a tape mahcine to see if it plays correctly.
Other than that, I don't know, unless it might be your sound card or some
setting inside your PC?
