Well, in some cases it is and much more streight forward on how to pick and
burn files and folders. I have had a lot of folks have real problems using
speech to burn a cd with Windows Media Player.

SV: High-End Sound Card, Two Speakers

2008-05-12 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hello!
Hmm, the m-audio works really great with jaws.
And allso when stating such things you really need to be very clear on
what's not working and whats working.
For example:
The latest drivers comes with a new controlpanel for the m-audio cards.
This does not work either with jaws or hal.
But if you roll back to the previous install then the control panel works
just fine.
At least for me.
M-audio has very good cards in my opinion.
The m-audio delta audiophile 192 has a very clear sound and the noise level
is really low.
I have told m-audio to fix this screenreader incompatibilities and got a
positive answer.
They actually listened but if they have done something i can not say as i am
really satisfied with the drivers i am using now.
/Anders.

 Hello Bruce,
That sound card, is a very exhalent sound card.
But however, all of them can deliver 2 channel stereo sound as well as
5.1/7.1 surround sound. Take your pick, there many to choose from.
But also keep in mind, some of the higher end sound cards aren't Jaws user
 friendly.
 My best regards.

I am in the process of assembling a new desktop system for myself. I'm
not building my own computer, but I am adding things I want. One thing
I'm looking at doing is adding an internal sound card to replace the
integrated one that comes with the system. While I love doing audio
editing, I'm an old-fashioned type who still uses just two speakers.
So what I want to know is, is there a high-end sound card that will
allow me to use two speakers instead of 100 or whatever the current
surround sound specifications are? I don't care if the card has 5.1
or 7.1 capabilities, I might want to utilize that in future, but I'd
like to be able to use my old-fashioned two-speaker stereo speakers
if I can. How's the Sound Blaster Audogy SE?

Re: finding album information in Winamp

2008-05-12 Thread Chris Skarstad
 Hi

I've changed the subject line to better reflect the question here.

It depends on how the file is tagged. You
can press alt plus f3 to get into the file editor, and if the album
is listed it should be there. In newer versions like 5.531 you can
press the autotag button and get that information from the CD
Database online. That should do it for you.

As far as I know, the last time I checked, the Nano was not supported by
rockbox. In fact, it specifically said it wasn't.

Yes, rockbox makes the nano a lot more user friendly. I have an ipod
 video
30 gb here, but its basically the same thing.
And now that the new rockbox installer is out, no more of that going
 into
the command prompt; its all done for you, and its very painless. voices
 can
 be found at:
 http://www.tbrn.net/rockbox
the rockbox manual is very intuitive.
They kater to us blind folks.
You have speech output afor files, menu items (pretty much all of them,
except perhaps an alarm- but who would use that). It gives you battery
status information, etc. It lets you specifically set up sound settings.
 You
get the option of choosing what the anti-skip buffer is- this basically
 is
like a portable cd player, with hard drive based models that is. Since
 the
nano is flash based, no real need for that here- a waiste of battery and
 it
wouldn't work anyway. You can choose to shuffle, repeat, or repeat all,
 as
well as shuffle repeat, and I'm not sure what else. Crossfading and fade
 in
and fade out are all options too. You can even make .talk clips
 painlessly
with the voicebox utility. Basically, while your ipod is plugged into
 the
pc, you open this utility up, set a few very simple options such as
 voice
directories or voice file names, and set it if you want it to notify you
when it has finished. Now you choose the drive that your ipod reprisents
(for me it is g, but it can be anything). Now press enter on run, I
 think
the button is called- and, using your default sapi 5 voice, it will
 convert
the spelled out names you'd usually here (for example, dog would be d,
 o,
 g,
very annoying), to full speech. Of course if you don't have sapi 5 this
might be an issue, however, I personally would use e speech. It is free
 and
it doesn't sound half bad and, most of all, it can be quite quick if you
have long file names. Its used in the open source screen reader NVDA,
(nonvisual desktop access)if anyone cares to know.

 hth!

Hi,
yes radios that do this do exist. you can get them from fm-atlas. But I
think if the radios that can pick up tv channels 2 through 69 over the air

will let them connect a dtv converter box into them.

Naming tracks and albums in Windows Media Player 11

2008-05-12 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
On comparison when ripping my CDs in Itunes and WMP11 I find that the naming of
the tracks and albums is much more accurate in Itunes. Having done about 150
albums, about 24 are wrong - the name of the album can be right but the tracks
are not labelled correctly.
I wish to stay with WMP11 as I wish the WMA lossless format. How can I correct
the problem.
Do I have to re-rip or can I get some other naming site to scan the already
ripped tracks and re name them? Can I also re-assign a different naming site to
WMP11?
Thanks for any help.
