Re: The quality of books from audible.com
I've been a member for 8 years and I think the audio generally is good. Are you using format 4 as your download format? If you use one of the lower formats such as 2 or 3 the audio isn't very good. It could also be that you're downloading an old book and sometimes they're only available in the lower formats (bit rates). - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Friday, August 08, 2008 8:27 PM Subject: The quality of books from audible.com > Hi! > > What to users of http://www.audible.com think of the quality of audio > books on the site? Re: The quality of books from audible.com
Ok, well I'll check to be sure but I take your point about some of the older books and that may be the reason why, I note that some of my books in my library are at a lower format than others. Anyway its a good service an because of what you've pointed, out I'll find out what format level each book is available up to, I've also made a point of purchasing more books on CD. RE: Olympics
Hi Vinny and all, ah apologies for the misinformation. There have been other times with cricket matches for example where Radio Sport didn't restrict their streaming. I guess the Olympic people put the pressure on them to develop the technology to restrict based on the IP address of the listener. Which is a shame, because now they've invested in the technology for the Olympics, I suspect it will be used quite widely for other events too. Total Recorder 7 Professional, what do others thing?
Hi! Was wondering what other list members thought of the latest version of Total Recorder Professional? I'm extremely impressed if I dare say so myself. I particularly like the implimentation of cue sheets and the "time shifting" function though this seems to have one big flaw. Suppose you start recording a programme at a given time with the scheduler and you start listening to the programme using the "time shift" function 10 minutes into it. You're enjoying it and then the schedular (as programmed) stops the recording whilst you're listening, then your listening stops too (ten minutes before the end), I hope that the developers can fix this problem as its a damn annoying one. The ability to record audio streams as they're broadcast over the Internet is neat! we Mac users have enjoyed the benefits of this for quite some time now , means that you don't lose any quality through re-encoding of the stream to another format and also means that you can speed up the recording process in some cases. All in all, worth the upgrade cost or the purchase price of $40.00. * Dane Trethowan From Melton Victoria Australia mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] PHONE: +613 8732 9237 Fax: +613 9743 7954 mobile: +61 418 773 5532 MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype: callto:grtdane12 ** Jonathan Mosen List Founder Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: Olympics
Hi ketan, Radio Sport here in New Zealand are broadcasting the Olympics, and they appear not to restrict their stream to New Zealand. Goldwave takes all processor power.
Hello! I am using windows xp home on a packard bell computer with a amd sempron 3000. I was recording a radio show here but the computer nearly locked up when golodwave started recording. It used to do that when i save files in mp3 or ogg but not when recording. Is 5.25 the latest version or is there any version above? What can be the problem here, i don't have such problems with audacity or other programs. My screenreader is hal 6.53 for those intrested but i can't see why Hal should cause any problems with Goldwave. /Anders. Fwd: Winamp Script Version 0.99R released (Window-Eyes).
From: Jeff Bishop To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Everyone, Along with the exciting announcement about public beta 2 comes a new version of the Winamp scripts. Here are the enhancements in this release: Enhancements and Bug Fixes in August 7th Release (Version 0.99R): 1. Made the winamp.xml file comply to new changes in Window-Eyes public beta 2. 2. Added Control-F4 to the Winamp Drop Box. Winamp does not supply this functionality natively. 3. Eliminated use of arrays in favor of dictionary objects for desktop and keyboard event handling. This resolved errors seen in winamp customer support reports sent to me. 4. Added more error handling in main desktop events. 5. Enhanced F2 (winamp bookmark manager dialog). This dialog now utilizes a treeview. You can select winamp bookmarks, recently heard links/URLS, and Winamp script Presets and play them. A Delete button was added to the dialog to allow you to delete Winamp Bookmarks and Presets. 6. The hotkey Manager now utilizes a treeview. 7. The time bookmark manager (Control+Windows+Alt+M) now uses a ListView. 8. Added version information to the technical support report. 9. The B and Z keys now announce the title of the track moved to when executed. The Next and Previous XML elements were removed as they are no longer required. 10. If you are listening to a play list and you move to a new track that track title is now announced. Window-Eyes timers rock! Keep an eye on this one as it may cause chatty behavior with certain focus events but I think I caught them all. 11. Added Alt-Shift-T. This toggles the automatic title speaking and speaking of the title as you move from track to track. It is saved in the INI file. 12. Enabled voice and verbosity in the set file. Use both insert keys was also changed to On. 13. Made changes to GWToolkit name spaces to be compatible with version 5.7 of the GWToolkit. Get it from Script Central: http://www.gwmicro.com/sc I sincerely appreciate the great feedback I have been receiving pertaining to the Winamp scripts. Keep it coming. Happy testing everyone. Voices reading material under OS10.5 on the Mac (demo)
Hi everyone! I was asked by a friend to give her a demo of some of the voices that Voiceover (the Screen Reading software for Apple's OS10.5 Leopard) can use so it seemed foolish not to share them around with anyone who may be interested. The first demo is of Alex reading an article, Alex is the new voice that ships with Leopard, The other demo I did was with a third party software voice, Infovox Graham which can be purchased separately, the "infovox" voices (in my humble opinion) are the best sounding voices I've ever heard on a computer and I think they're available for Windows too! The article read in both demos is a piece on Andrew George Scott (Alias Captain Moonlight) and that goes for about 15 minutes. If anyone's interested then write to me privately and I'll send you the links to the files.
