Bill:

Thanks for your post. I take it that you are using the q-beam st model? If
so, what kind of range can you obtain from the transmitter?

Cheers.

External sound cards and Soundforge 9

2008-09-28 Thread Sid Pritchard
Hello everyone,

I am advised that, to produce better audio work, I need a good quality
external sound card.

Can anyone please tell me which is the best to buy.

Also, I want to look at sound forge and have discovered that version 9 is now
available. Can anyone confirm if version 9 has the JAWS script files included
as did version 8.

Thank you in anticipation of your help.

Mike:

In the Us, I've found prices from $99 to about $130. So far, I am not able
to find any pricing in Canada.

If, by the way, anyone is interested in purchasing an almost unused Q-Bass
headphone/mike system, you can contact me privately.

Cheers.

Jim

What does this system cost? Sounds interesting and might be something I
may wish to check out as yet another alternative approach to sound
delivery.

Good luck to you guys in the Maritimes over the next day or so. Keep

Wireless headphone transmitter and receiver (continued)

2008-09-28 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hello Again Folks:

Further to my previous post:

LTBAudio manufactures a system called the Q-Bean ST. This device, unlike their
other systems, does not receive the input signal from a USB port but connects
to an audio source in the usual way. The transmitter section of the system can
be powered via battorys or from a computer USB port.

This system, at least for me, resolves two main issues:
1. The problem of introducing yet another sound device in to the Windows OS.
2. The ability for those who use mixers to transmit an audio signal using the
mixer settings.

RE: Making Recordings Of On-line Audio Files

2008-09-28 Thread Mike Pietruk
Pam

You should have no problem doing this using the tandem of WE7 and iTunes8.
i have done exactly this for a couple of iTunes only podcasts marking
episodes I wanted and then have them retrieved.
If the podcast can be subscribed with a general podcast program such as
Juice, you also have this option.

I don't have time today to check out the specific feed you mention, but I
will place it on the to-do list for early in the week.

This is one of the great things about podcast subscriptions. You can not
only receive the latest installments automatically, but also many
subscriptions store a good amount of backlogged material for later
retrieval on a request basis.

Best of both worlds: get things automatically retrieved plus manual
retrieving later.

Re: Wireless Headphone transmitter and receiver.

2008-09-28 Thread Jim Noseworthy

Bobcat:

Thanks for your post. Actually, I presently have both of their systems,
however the one that requires the use of headphones died the big death. The
unit has to be sent back for repair. One of the problems with the Q-Bean
units is that the battery is not replaceable in the normal manor.

The headphone version is a very good system however, it is a closed ear
system which many folks, including myself, dislike.

Thanks all over the place for your post.

One of the Q-Bean Wireless 2.0 Audio systems will let you use your own
phones. I don't rmemember which model and I don't know how good the
system really is.
I think it is the Q-BEAN-ST which connects through headphone jacks but not
the Q-BEAN-U which uses usb.

Old Time Radio And Computer TAlk Show On Itunes

2008-09-28 Thread Pam Drake
For anyone interested, WMKVFM radio in Reading, Ohio makes available its
four-hour weekly OTR program "The Big Broadcast" available free from the
Itunes Store. They also have a weekly talk and information show called
"Computer Talk". This show is aired Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 PM on
their local frequency of 89.3KHZ, streams it on wmkv.org, and also makes
it available free in the Itunes Store. They cover just about every
facet of computers with an emphasis on making information available in a
simple, easy-to-understand way for beginners. It was originally known
as "Senior Computer Talk", but the audience is comprised of people of
all ages so the name was shortened.

WMKV is a publicly sponsored station on the campus of Maple Knoll
Communities, a retirement community in Springfield, Ohio, with their
transmitter in Reading. These are suburbs of Cincinnati. Their
programming is largely geared to seniors, but Computer Talk and The Big
Broadcast, as well as other programs, have listeners of all ages.

Enjoy!
