Hi Jim,

What I do is:

1. Select the beginning and end of the selection with B and N, as you have
done.

2. Select normalize with ctrl+m.

3. Tab to the up/down slider. For me, with JAWS, it shows values such as
39%. I'm not sure what those percentages mean, but up and
down arrow will increase or decrease the volume. You can't actually hear
the results of your change until you press enter on OK,
then play the file around your change. If it is not right the first time,
you can make a further adjustment.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Barry Chapman

Subject: mp3 direct cut

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can give me a hand with mp3 direct cut. I have parts
of the file I need to raze the audio level. So I find the part I want to
change and mark the beginning with the keyboard hotkey (B) and end of it
with (N) and when I use the control up or down arrow to change the gain it
takes effect on the entire file. What am I doing wrong?

Using mp3 direct cut version 2.09

Thanks.

Studio recorder question:

2008-11-05 Thread Don Breda

Hi Listers.

In studio recorder if you drop markers with the left or right bracket
keys and you find they need to be moved slightly, how is this done?

I read the entire manual and didn't see mention of a way to move a
marker or would you just use scrub at that point?

P.S. does anyone know anything about the Plextalk RE11 remote control
for studio recorder?

I am looking for a remote control unit that I could preferrably use with
all recording software such as goldwave, sound forge stuido rerecorder etc.

Is this a fantacy?

Don

My Flash Problem May Be Solved

2008-11-05 Thread Max G. Swanson
This solution may be of interest, as it seems I'm not the only one with
Flash9 problems. First, I did run the Uninstall Flashplayer and rebooted.

Then searched for Flashplayer 10 on Google and bounced around the Adobe
site a bit. After almost downloading a beta version for Solaris I found
the usual "Agree and Install" button. On the second try the InfoBar came
up and presented the ActiveX option. The difference? This time it
loaded.

Just before this step I'd downloaded Shockwave Ver. 11 which, unlike
Flashplayer, needs a permission from Windows Live Onecare to install.
Also D/L'ed the optional update for root certificates from MS earlier.

Mentioning this in case one of those two steps were the real reason for my
success. Thanks for responses on this list, and of course, HTH!

Re: problems burning .wma files to CDR disks

2008-11-05 Thread Don Lorah
I am also trying to burn audio discs with Windows Media player, and go
through the same tabbingto the start burn. The files are in the library
container and the burn seems to begin, but, after about 5 minutes, I get the
message, close Windows ... space bar to activate. After another minute,
Windows Media player unavailable. The files are not burned to the disc in
audio format. Help anyone?? thankx, Don

Hi Alex I have used Windows Media player to burn WMA files to CD by cutting
and copying in to the CD directory. I then just selected write to CD and
Windows Media Player just automatically started up and preformed the task. I
don't know about the programs you have just mentioned but I'm sure help will
be at hand soon.

Re: problems burning .wma files to CDR disks

2008-11-05 Thread abarney

Hi Alexander,
in order to get music or any file to play on a standard CD player, you have
to burn them to audio.
To get MP3 files to play on a standard CD player, you have to get a CD
player not older than a couple of years.

Linksys WMB54G... What am I doing wrong?

2008-11-05 Thread Bradford Trainham
Hi,
So CompUSA was selling out its XP compatible versions of this "music
bridge", a device that will supposedly stream your music from your computer
with your media player of choice, to your home entertainment center.
I installed the software... Read the manual... Ran the setup... Found it
mildly inaccessible-but-still-more-or-less-usable... Connected the WMB54G
via EtherNet to my 2Wire router, set up the password and such...
Then, I unplugged the WMBg54, moved it to a position closer to my stereo,
plugged it in, plugged in the two RCA cables into the jack in my stereo
designed to accommodate a player... Set Winamp to recognize the installed
audio driver... Started Winamp, and I'm hearing nothing from my stereo.
I read something on a support forum I didn't understand which seemed to
say... You have to switch to the WMB54g and then back to your computer if
you want to hear something.
I have no idea what that person meant by "switching"...
Has anyone used this device and if yes, what did you do to get it to work
wirelessly?
If I can't get it to work wirelessly, I'll just buy a long Ethernet cable
and try it with the machine connected to the router, but I'm hoping it'll
work via the wireless route.
Any help/pointers would certainly be appreciated,
Brad Trainham

Mic goes mute when using the line recording plugin for Winamp

2008-11-05 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hey folks

This question isn't for me, I'm helping a guy get his Winamp set up
for broadcasting, and he has a really weird thing going on. He's
able to use his mic in all kinds of situations like sending voice
clips over Windows Live Messenger, he can record using recording
programs, basically the mic he has works just fine. However when he
uses Winamp, and the line recording plugin to broadcast, his mic goes
mute and he can't be heard at all.
He's using a realtech card, it says high definition audio, so I'm
willing to bet that's onboard sound. Is it possible that his mic
could be muted, but only when the line recording plugin is being used?
I'm familiar with the windows XP and 9x series of the volume
controls, like you can have things muted in playback but not in
recording. Is there a setting he needs to look at or change so he
can get this to work. Like I say, his mic works beautifully in all
kinds of other situations accept with the line recording
plugin. When he uses it, the Winamp title bar says line recording
just as it should but no audio. It's frustrating as you can
imagine. Any ideas would be really helpful!

Thanks folks.

Chris

you have to have I believe an older version of audible manager installed on

I have successfully converted some .wma files using Sound
Taxi platinum 1.3 something.

Although it is my understanding that Sound Taxi can be used
to convert Audible files, I have thus far not been
successful at such conversions. I would therefore
appreciate it if someone would outline step by step this
procedure. Thank you.
