RE: MP4 files (and mp4b book format)

2009-10-01 Thread Ray
First, I hope the ammending of this thread's subject line is as obviously
useful to everyone else as it is for me.

I deliberately threw out a light and humourous challenge for someone to come
back on this and Chris has duely obliged. Thanks Chris, you post a lot of
useful messages.

.MP4b seems to me a good alternative tostraight .mp3 files simply because all
the data is in the one file and you don't have to split up into endless .mp3s.
For those listening to books on IPods then it seems a natural format to use.
I don't know what other hardware devices will support it, but I'm now going to
suggest on the UK Victor Stream list that we ask for MP4b support which I'm
sure isn't there at the moment.

Thanks again,

Ray

Wow, I didn't find a lot on MP4B, but I did locate iPod Audio Book Converter
at http://www.sjhaley.com/ipodabc/. Looks like an interesting format and an
interesting application. It'll create MP4B audio books from other sources,
such as MP3, WAV and so on.

I found out more about the MP4B format and how to play it with iTunes and
iPods at http://www.iplaybackaaj.com/faq_mp4.

All interesting Chris, butwonder if anyone actually knows about .mp4b files
which is a book format? Not just playing them; creating them?

Hahaha, bet no one comes back on that.

Ray.

You can play them out of the box with VLC and you can also use Switch from
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html to convert them to other formats.

You can find out more about MP4 files from any one of the file extension
sites, but the URL
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_play_mp4_files.cfm seems to
have the most information on how to play and convert MP4 files.

The IPod Shuffle is accessible.
Here is a link to a demonstration podcast on this device.
http://www.hartgen.org/shuffle.mp3
The IPod Nano 4th Generation is also accessible, but I can't find the link to
the podcast. However, I do have the mp3 file of it and I also own one. If you
want the mp3 file, just tell me and I can send it to you off list as an
attachment.

Registered as blind? With whom? Or what? This sounds like a UK
thing, as I've heard folk from there talk about being registered
blind in the past, but it means nothing when deciding what player you
want to use or buy.

In terms of accessibility, that's a good question with more than one
answer, because in the iPod world, accessibility has different
meanings to different people with different needs--not all the devices
have the same level or type of accessibility.

May I cordially invite you to subscribe to a list which would better
assist you in getting answers to your question you can use--not that
there's anything wrong with this list, but the list I would recommend
to you has your topic of interest as its main topic. Use this link to

I'm using a program called DVBViewer Pro and it's accessible. You can
read more about it at www.dvbviewer.com.
