Total Recorder Version 8.1 is Released

2010-03-07 Thread Steve Pattison
Total Recorder version 8.1 is now available and can be downloaded from
www.highcriteria.com. Here are the changes in this version and note
that some of these changes only apply to the video edition of Total
Recorder:

Version 8.1 build 3900 (released on March 5, 2010)

You can adjust the playing volume and recording level using hot keys.
The recording state is displayed on Total Recorder's icon in the Task Bar or
System
Tray.
A new command line parameter supports the Jump to time feature.

Other minor enhancements.

In addition to the number of minutes, you can now specify the number of seconds
when
splitting a file based on time.
When using Pause Reduction, you can specify the duration of preserved pauses
after
the reduction.
The batch processing feature has been extended as follows:
Presets for your batch processing parameters can be saved and later reused.
Pause reduction is supported.
Batch processing of a folder or a list of files can be launched through the
command
line.
Improved time calculation during the background recording of VBR MP3 streams.

Other minor enhancements.

Support for multiple monitors. You can do the following:
Specify the monitor to be used when playing video in full-screen mode.
Specify the monitor from which a window or region will be captured.
Ability to perform background recording of FLV streams transmitted using HTTP.
This
allows you, for example, to background record video from YouTube.
Total Recorder can work with a wider range of audio streams in FLV files.

2010-03-07 Thread Colin r . Howard
Greetings,

Currently, I have Total Recorder v6.1 pro, not sure what the difference is
between pro and standard, please can somebody explain the differences
between pro and standard and, if applicable, any other versions?

I may, if thought a good idea, jump straight for 8.1, I currently have
WindowsXP home on a desktop and a Kompak laptop, both currently running v6.1
pro. My access software is Jaws v10 on the laptop and v11 on the desktop,
so if there are any scripts, it would be helpful. I can use v6.1 pro to
some extent but expect with scripts it ought to be more useable. Am
interested to hear comments from others and where, if, scripts may be
obtainable. So far I only use TR for recording off the net or upstairs via
line in and/or off the net. I have been advised certainly to date, have
also found by looking, the editting functions are largely inaccessible.
Therefore, to date, I have used GoldWave v5.55 for virtually all my
editting.

I'd certainly upgrade to 8.1 if you're serious about recording and you already
have Total Recorder Pro, I don't think v6 had Time Shifting or cue editing for
example, cue editing is an extremely powerful tool which brings Total Recorder
into the world of very nice little pieces of audio editing software as well as
the best audio/video recorder - not to mention probably one of the most
accessible audio/video recorders - on the market.

The differences between versions? I don't think the standard version offers
much in the way of editing capabilities if any and it certainly doesn't have
much in the way of scheduling and capabilities for recording off the Internet.
The developer edition is exactly that, for developers who want to develop extra
plug-ins, put total recorder into software packages they write and so on,
that's how I understand it anyway. A full comparison chart of Total Recorder
versions can be found at http://www.totalrecorder.com

Free E-Books

2010-03-07 Thread Gary King
While looking around for news about the Blio eReader, which apparently will
not be released until late April, I found a press release about Read An
E-Book Week, which mentioned free e-books. Free is good! That's what I
always say. So I went to

ebookweek.com

and found some interesting articles and some links to free e-books in
various categories. Since I like Sci-Fi, the 2 books I've downloaded so far
are in that category. There are a number of different formats, but I chose
RTF since it can be read by MS Word and other word processors or be easily
converted to other formats. I'm not sure which of the other formats listed
for these books are accessible either on the PC or on a phone.

Read An E-Book Week starts today, so get them this week while they are free!

This looks great and the price is nice! But with all of the choices
of the like, which recording and editing program is the easiest to
