I've heard of Bard but don't really know details. Is this a service where
we can download talking books without having to have something like a
Victor Stream? I would like to know about it and where to sign up,
especially if it is simply a download of talking books service. Thanks.

Re: It's Still Stealing

2010-04-21 Thread Mac Norins
Wow, this is still going? Most people have lives and don't need to chime in
on such drivel! I just wish our moderator had taken the initiative to stop
the band width usage, on this ridiculous thread, a couple of days ago! The
debate will rage on, in spite of all of our best wishes, as debates do, that
get legs of their own!

Amen and thank you, Judy. So far I have counted four people including myself
who want to drop this thread because of its transparently acusatory
overtones. However, copyywrite protection raises interesting issues which I
think have been pretty thoroughly hashed and rehashed.

Audible and Windows Media Player 12

2010-04-21 Thread Samuel Wilkins
Hello, I am have just found I am unable to play Audible books in Enhanced
audio on Windows Media Player 12. I used to be able to but now I can not. I
tried restoring to an earlier system restore point but the earliest restore
point was at too later date. Whenever I try and play it, it doesn't bring up
the section navigation dialog which it used to. It doesn't even play
anything. It looks visually normal. It will play Format 4 files however I
have some books which don't sound good in format 4 and only really work in
enhanced audio. Audible have not been able to find a solution. I have been
look in the control panel of windows recently and am not sure whether my
tinkering has caused this to happen. I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Audible Manager without success. I am using Windows 7 and, as
far as I know, there is no way to download Windows Media Player 12. Does
anyone have any suggestions?

External Soundcard.

2010-04-21 Thread Brian Dalton

Hi all,

I'm shortly hoping to make the leap to windows seven.

I do a lot of audio production and sound editing with my pc.

I am looking at obtaining a good quality external soundcard. The one I have
been looking at is the

Creative x-fi surroundsound 5.1.
http://en.store.creative.com/products/product.aspx?catid=1&pid=17751

Is anyone using this card at the moment? or can anyone suggest anything
better which may be better suited to what i'm looking for?

Many thanks,
Brian.

Re: no speech after installing totalrecorder 8.1

2010-04-21 Thread Rob Tabor

Good evening, Dan and all.
There may be a conflict between JAWS and the video attributes of the wave
form in Total Recorder. When I first began working with GoldWave JAWS would
cause the computer to crash after about 20 minutes or so of record or
playback. I finally resolved the problem by setting the video attributes to
the "blank" position in user control preferences on the advice of Rick
Harmon, developer and host of "The Blind Geek Zone." . I have had no prior
contact with Total Recorder but I would not be surprised if there isn't a
very similar cause and solution for the problem. I wish you the best of luck
as I have experienced the frustration first hand when trying to produce a
good audio file.

Best regards

Re: External Soundcard.

2010-04-21 Thread Rob Tabor

Hi, brian.
Perhaps you will want to consider acquiring a USB or inline audio mixer
which would give you the added benefits of an external sound card and would
enable you to mix audio from multiple input sources such as mics, external
CD players, and USB turntables. I haven't researched it to suggest any
particular brands or product models but I am considering making a mixing
board purchase in the near future. I'll be following this convo thread with
VERY KEEN INTEREST.
