RE: Winamp Library
I use it with JAWS to manage my library and my portable MP3 players. I also use it to subscribe to my podcasts. I'm a pretty basic user though, and I don't know anything about iTunes or smart play lists. I would say it's usable but not elegant. You have to do a lot of tabbing and use the F6 key to get around. It takes some trial and error to know what to do when. The on line features are also mostly inaccessible. I find that it does work though, and it's free, so you can try it out yourself. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane trethowan Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2010 1:34 AM To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: Winamp Library Hi! Reaper and volumes with Rea Access
Hi, I'am a blind user, and I'am learninng how to use reaper. I produce radio and video spots, and in these 5 years of work I've ever used Sound forge, that isn't a multitrack editor, so has some limitations for my work. On this list I've discovered that Reaper can become very accessible by using Rea Access, a tird parti plug-in that talks to my screen reader and allows movements between tracks, faders, triggers ecc. I've learned how to select, cut, paste, but I can't understand volumes. Often, for my work I have 2 or 3 tracks, one for the background music and the others for voices or effects. So I need to put down the volume of the background music and re incrementing the same volume when the voice track is finished. How I can do this with Reaper via keyboard commands? I've assigned a shortcut for inserting envelope points, but then I can't understand what I have to do. I don't want to use automation if possible because I don't have a midi controller, and automating volumes via keyboard can't be easy, especially if I want to create a gradual shape. Anyone can suggest a solution? Thanks! To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

RE: MP3 players pre-loaded with Rockbox
Hi chris, You should try listening to a Rockboxed Sansa Fuze, it sounds fantastic! E ven better than the E200 Series players! Here's what one gets with a player purchase from Accessible Electronics: the player (including USB cable and earphones), completely set up and speaking, initial instructional email and Quick-Start Guide, plus the Rockbox manual for the specific player. One also gets the utilities one may need for whatever one wishes to do with their player. *Free* tech support via email, phone, and Skype, including walking someone through whatever procedure they need to be walked through. 90-day replacement warranty. Shipping & handling is free in the US and discounted on international orders. With iPods you may not need to use VoiceBox, which is very simple to use BTW, but you do have to use iTunes to do anything with your player, and as you know, not everyone takes to iTunes like a duck to water, with some people ending up paying the extra $75 for Brian Hartgen's JAWS scripts. The other thing about iPods is that you're paying a lot more for what you get as far as capabilities go. Sure, there's some give and take no matter which way one looks at it, but I'd prefer to have the expandable memory, have control of where I put my files, and the ability to use it as a mass storage device if I choose to. Plus there's no touch screen challenge. The iPod Touch is more like a PDA, rather large when compared to a Sansa player, and a lot more expensive, especially if one drops it or it gets stolen. I myself have an iPod Touch, but I don't use it for listening to my audio files, as it's very cumbersome to control when compared to a Rockboxed Sansa Talking MP3 player. I mainly use it for the applications and use my Sansa Fuze for my listening pleasure. Comparing these two devices is like comparing apples to oranges, no pun intended. LOL! Regards, Laz "Christopher Chaltain" wrote: I haven't ordered a Rockbox loaded MP3 player from Accessible Electronics, but I have used Rockbox on the Sansa E200 series of MP3 players. I'd definitely give it a favorable review. You'll have a MP3 player with talking menus, great sound quality and it won't set you back a lot financially. I'm not sure what you get with Accessible Electronics, but with a utility called VoiceBox, you can create voice clips for the folders and files on your player, so you'll hear the names of the folders and files spoken when you move around the file system of your MP3 player. You can also change the batteries of the Sansa's and swap out the memory cards for more storage. You can just use Windows Explorer to copy your music over to your MP3 player or a music library manager like Winamp. IMHO, the only other real option is the iPods from Apple. They'll probably be a bit simpler to use, in that you don't have to use a utility like VoiceBox to get the folders and files on your MP3 player spoken to you. You don't have the option of just copying your files over to the iPod, you'll have to use iTunes. The iPod Touch may also have more features than you're looking for, but that's also one of its advantages. Good luck in whatever you decide! Re: Apple TV
Hi Chris. Apple TV is a device which connects to your TV. With its use, one can buy or rent movies and TV shows from iTunes. You can also link up with a computer running iTunes and use Apple TV to play your iTunes library along with iTunes radio through your home theatre system. If you were to purchase an application called Air Foil, available for either Windows or Mac computers, you could stream Internet radio or pretty much anything you want through Apple TV. That being said, if it includes Voiceover, I'm not aware of it, though I don't own the latest and greatest model. If anyone knows of Voiceover's use on Apple TV, I would be extremely interested. Right now, my ability to run it on my own is limited. If it were to become Voiceover friendly, I would buy the new model in a heartbeat. Apple TV is a media receiver that you connect to your HD TV or home theater system. It allows you to watch or listen to the contents of your iTunes library, rented movies and TV shows and purchased music, streamed from your computer through your wireless network. VoiceOver speaks the devices menus and the titles of the movies and TV episodes that you select to be played with a remote control. You can go to blindbargains.com where you will find a link to an article in MacWorld about Apple TV and a Flash presentation of VoiceOver speaking menus and media titles. petition to make Kontakt Player accessible
Hey all. This is a message I got from another list. Don't know much about it but if it can help blind musicians i figured I should pass it along wherever I haven't seen it. Thanks bb -Original message- Hello there, Over the years that I have been a silent part of this great growing vibrant community, I have seen people with signatures that identify them as musicians. The art of creating music with the computer has been gaining a lot of popularity recently, and we have seen excellent virtual instruments enter the market. Best Service's XSample Chamber Orchestra, Galaxy Steinway, Vintage D, Synthogy Ivory, Grand Piano, EastWest Quantum Leap Storm Drums, EastWest Quantum Leap Voices of Passion, EastWest Quantum Leap Orchestra gold, silver, and platinum, Gariton Personal Orchestra and Miroslav Philharmonik are just a few of them. However, the big news is, none of these are actually accessible, rendering the blind unable to use these wonderful sounds. Now, as we all know, music amongst the blind has been picking up these last few years and we see a lot of blind musicians climbing the ladder of musical success, from all over the world. Since music is moving towards electronic composition, hence giving composers better recording, and getting the job done in a fraction of the real price, this puts the blind at a serious disadvantage. People won't order any music to be composed because they need to pay for performers, studio hours, and searching for players who fit their needs. There is one thing all these instruments have in common though: they all use a voice sample player, called Kontakt Player. A voice sample player is the software that loads the samples recorded in high-quality studios by great performers, and allows you to use them. So, this player's interface is what we actually see. To put it in the simplest terms, by making Kontakt Player accessible, ninety per cent (if not all) of these instruments will be accessible by the blind. Therefore, I invite you to please sign this petition, so it could be shown to the Kontakt Player support, and maybe spur them to action. So far, my emails have met non-committal shrugs. The link is: http://www.petitiononline.com/kontakt/petition.html Thank you, and please spread the word to whoever you think might care. Best, Parham To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

This is not an advocacy list. And no, you shouldn't arbitrarily go posting messages to a list just because you haven't seen it on the list, especially since you admittedly know little about it.
