Re: Is there any secret to this one?
Thanks DJC. I can't believe that Microsoft would leave out such a helpful feature. Just wondering if this is different when using WMP itself? I've just never taken the time to find out for myself because I figure that the less time spent with WMP the better my life will go . Re: Apple TV up and running
Hi Dane: Just wondering if you'd care to share your thoughts and experience with us. I am the executive writer for a technology site focusing on assistive technology and accessibility and was wondering if you'd like to write a guest post for us on how the process went. Please let me know. Re: Apple TV up and running
Blog url is http://www.grtdane.wordpress.com You may find that as you do your research that a computer might not be necessary for your system depending on what way you go, but certainly given the price an Apple TV unit would be well worth consideration,, you don't need a computer to store your music with and inter grate with the Apple device. I'm not going to comment on this any further at this stage, still learning about how it all works . On 06/01/2011, at 1:27 AM, Kris Hickerson wrote: > Dane, Where do I find your blog? Re: Accessable Hard Drive for Hi Fi
I can think of a few options. One would be to use an FM transmitter. You could attach an FM transmitter to your PC and then broadcast the music from your PC and pick it up on your stereo, assuming you have a FM receiver as part of your stereo. I don't have one myself, but I'm sure others can chime in with more details, opinions and information. You can also use a few different technologies to broadcast music from your PC over wifi or bluetooth to a receiver that you could then attach to your stereo. Apple TV and Airport Express would be two such examples, and others can speak to them with much greater detail than I can. A third option is to go with an accessible portable media player with enough storage and then attaching it to your stereo system. Even if your stereo system doesn't have a lot of connectors, you should be able to find connectors that run from your MP3 player into the auxiliary input of your stereo receiver. Note that you'd still have to have this level of connection if you were using a wifi or bluetooth receiver. You could avoid this with the FM transmitter though. This is the route I went. Not because it was superior to any of the other methods, but rather it just fit my needs. With this method, I have a portable MP3 player with most of my music. I can use this when traveling, exercising, sitting in the waiting room or whatever. I can also attach it to the stereo in my living room, the powered external speakers in my bedroom or the audio input jack of my wife's car. For MP3 players, you have a few different options. You can go with an off the shelf MP3 player that will run Rockbox. This would be the cheapest route. You could go with an iPod. Finally, you could go with an MP3 player tailored specifically for the blind, such as the Booksense. Each have their relative strenghts. That's my $0.02. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com On 1/4/2011 2:43 PM, Colin Phelan wrote: Hi All, I wonder if you can assist. For use whilst on the move I rip all my music directly to MP3. I am using a basic separates system that includes a Cyrus amplifyer with little or no fancy connections. I do not need an ipod for listening on the move otherwise I may go down that route. Is there some sort of hard drive I could use that is accessible and I can just copy all the MP3's to. Yes when it comes to hi fi I am about 15 years out of date but hey the Cirus amp used to be leading edge and it still works! Dane, Where do I find your blog? I will be following your experiences with great interest. I'm in the process of trying to determine how I want to modify my tv and stereo equipment. I don't have a serious plan yet, but at this point, I'm trying to determine all the options out there, and then decide which ones would work best for my needs. I think the first thing I'm going to need is one hot computer, and the one I have certainly doesn't qualify. Anyway, keep us posted. Apple TV up and running
Hi! As promised to the list quite some time ago I'd report on my Apple TV though it seems that other people have beaten me to the punch which is excellent! Unfortunately my delay was due to the fact that I had to rely on sighted assistance to update the Apple TV units firmware, version 4.0 doesn't come with Voiceover and that's what the Apple TV was running when I purchased it. Then came the problem of sighted help not having 24 hours to spare , in the time allotted me by sighted assistance I couldn't get the device connected to the Internet to download the 4.1 firmware update so a different approach was required, got Sighted assistance to drop the unit in to their local Apple Store. The units firmware was updated without a problem as I knew it would be and I'd hoped to be using the Apple TV on Christmas night but this was not to be due to the fact that Sighted Assistance had too much more important Christmasy-type stuff on his mind thus forgot completely about the Apple TV, yours truly is certainly not complaining as Sighted Assistance had been in discussions with Santa for some time about my Christmas Ipad-type present which I very gratefully received, I lost enough sleep setting that up on Christmas Night thanks and I can only begin to imagine just how much more sleep I would have lost setting up an Apple TV too! . But all's well that end's well, Sighted Assistance turned up today with Apple TV and Voiceover enabled, i have it connected to my wi-fi network and the unit is performing far better than I would have believed possible. I've already started writing about it on my Twitter pages and I'll shortly be writing some notes and observations on Apple TV for my blog. TO summaries, this little square box puts audio and video from computers and the Internet right into the palm of your hand literally thanks to the well designed remote control, without Voiceover such a device would be almost completely pointless for me, surfing radio stations, podcasts and so on are now done from the comfort of my armchair rather than from the comfort of my executive chair in front of the computer or by perching an Iphone on my shoulder or an Ipad on my chest . So much to learn, so little time and a very long way to go! To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
