At present I use winamp only to read books. I could not find any way in
foobar to set markers.

Oh and another thing to add is that the track or tracks you add to the
playback queue also get assigned a number within the queue and you can
actually read this with your screen reader as the number is put at the
beginning. So for example you queue two tracks, as you arrow down the
playlist and you come across the track you added to the playback queue and
say it was the second track you added, your screen reader will read 2 then
the name of the track etc. Very handy!

HI James,

I found that you can use the search box in foobar to queue tracks by finding
your tracks via your search term, highlighting the track or tracks you want
to queue and then copying the tracks to the clipboard. Then you close search
box and going to the track you want to put the songs after then paste the
tracks from the clipboard. It isn't as quite as automatic as winamp but it
can be done. I'm sure there must be a plugin or component to do this.

Accessible portable media players [was "Re: My brother and I have a question"]

2011-04-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Rockbox has gotten pretty easy to install lately, but if you want to
skip the hassle of finding a player that will support Rockbox and then
getting it installed, you can always go to
http://www.talkingmp3players.com/. They sell MP3 players with Rockbox
already installed and working. Another thing to point out is that this
will also be your least expensive option.

Another option that wasn't pointed out here is the MP3 players made
especially for the blind. I have a Booksense from HIMS but there's also
the Victor Stream from Humanware maybe? I think there are a few other
options in this category as well. The advantage here is that they'll
also work with LS, RFBD and other formats.

In the future, I'd also suggest a more descriptive subject line. I don't
always read the body of the messages, and a topic like "My brother and I
have a question" doesn't tell me anything about what you're asking about.

I also think this list is specifically for PC related audio questions,
so this is probably off topic for this list. Unfortunately, I don't know
of a generic list dedicated to your different accessible media player
options.

Friends, My brother called me, and well he's not familiar with jaws or
talkiing software for Ipods. Neither am I to be honest.

What are some good IPod brands that will be compatible with the talking
software or whatever to make it work?

I'm sorry if this sounds stupid or a out of it question.

RE: My brother and I have a question

2011-04-21 Thread Walter
Hi. JAWS or any other computer based screen readers will not work with
Ipods or MP3 players. There are 3 options I can think of at this moment; 1.
Many Ipod's such as the Ipod touch have built in voice guidance which is
effective. 2. Other MP3 players may be used with a piece of software such
as Rockbox but there aren't many players around that will do that, Iriver
and Archoes machines do, well at least some of their players do but this is
difficult to install unless you have some expertise. 3. Probably along
with the Ipod touch the best option is using a mobile phone with Talks or
Mobile Speak or the like. This way you will have a usable mobile plus as
most have reasonable mp3 players you can get full access to your music.
Personally, and this is purely a personal opinion, I don't think the players
in Mobiles are as good respecting the sound quality compared to dedicated
MP3 players, probably because they are merely a phone with a player thrown
in rather than a good mp3 player with a phone attached, if that makes sense.
Walter.

The speaker setup should be accessible, I don't get it.
It was just fine when I used it. I know the TV signal set up isn't too
accessible though. What set up are uyou guys talking about now?

Okay, just been talking to someone about this who tells me that Media Centre

in Windows 7 is now completely accessible which always hasn't been the case.

Its the sort of information I was after myself as I'll be undertaking an
upgrade to Windows 7 on my desktop machine - which handles all my video
recording - shortly.

So far part of the set up is almost accessible. for example, you can arrow
to next, back or yes or no. but you don't know what you are agreeing too or
rejecting. Jaws only sees only the title bar and the object that is
highlighted.

Re: Total Recorder Instructions

2011-04-21 Thread KEN REED

Hi, you'll have to check the prefferennces settings.
There you'll find the driver choices for input and output.
I see three choices. I let total recorder be my primary sources for input
and output.

But total recorder will give you some clews, because some settings it will
tell you that you've done something wrong.

Where the trouble may start, is where you have u s b cards. You will have
to experiment to get around this.

Hi Ken.
What about the message I've had when I tried to play something back which
tells me that it can't play it back through it's driver. What's that all
about?

Adrian.

Hi mat, there isn't much to understanding total recorder, that's why I
like it.

The most important thing to set up is your
Recording source and parameters, you find that in options.
It determins whether you will be recording from your sound card or your
software, like winamp or windows media players.

The controlls use the space bar to record , stop pause , and play.

Tabbing gets you to the output and input level controlls.
The alt key and arow keys gets the edit view and finally the preference
modes like the recording source and parameters.

Some day I'll do a podcast on it, but that should be enought to get you
started.

One more thing, after your finished with your recording
Besure your stoped. thehn tap the alt key and down arow to save. Then
chose how you want to save, because your given the choice to save in wav,
or save in mp3. Wel that's the basics goodluck.

RE: FYI foobar and winamp blog

2011-04-21 Thread David Bailes
Hi David and James,
I spoke too soon. I've since realized that although the track is added to the
playback queue, after the track is played, foobar continues through the tracks
in the searched playlist, which is probably not what you wanted.

David.

original mesage:
Hi David and James,

to queue tracks that you've found in search, choose add to playback queue on
the
context menu. This seems to work.

David.

orginal messge:
HI James,

I found that you can use the search box in foobar to queue tracks by
finding your tracks via your search term, highlighting the track or tracks
you want to queue and then copying the tracks to the clipboard. Then you
close search box and going to the track you want to put the songs after
then paste the tracks from the clipboard. It isn't as quite as automatic as
winamp but it can be done. I'm sure there must be a plugin or component to
do this.

David Truong.
