Re: Youtube downloader

2011-12-28 Thread Steve Jacobson
I am not aware of picking up any viruses or malware from using either of these
sites, but certainly one should always
be suspicious. One should also be suspicious of any programs you download from
sites you don't know as well,
though. I tend to feel more comfortable with web sites that I know have been
around for a while than I am
downloading programs to do conversions that are not as well known. All of the
programs suggested here might very
well be completely all right, and I no nothing to contradict that. My point is
only that downloading a program is not
necessarily safer than using a web site. Always keep your guard up, your virus
definitions up-to-date, and even scan
the resulting MP3's with your virus checker until you gain confidence in
whatever system you use.

Obviously, if anyone knows of any problems with either of these sites, I would
very much like to know about it.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

When you are watching a YouTube stream you want to save, go to the address

Re: Youtube downloader

2011-12-28 Thread Dean Masters

I have recently used:

http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

You paste the link into the edit box and on the screen you wil read that it
is processing the file but this happens quickly. Then it gives you a button
to download the file. I have used programs to save the files but find this a
lot faster. You can't control the quality of the file, though. The ones I
have done turn out around 128 which isn't too bad. The audio on YouTube
isn't usually that great anyway so saving at a higher bit rate usually
doesn't help much.

I use a web service called vid2mp3. It is a web-based conversion
service. paste a URL into a form and press enter. Within a few
minutes, presto, they have an MP3 file ready for downloading. It is
the complete audio of your video from Youtube, Vimeo, and about a
dozen other video sites. You can find them at:

http://www.vidtomp3.com/index.php

Enjoy.

Re: wave to MP 3 conversion problem

2011-12-28 Thread Howard Traxler
To update the file in the open window (I think) means it will close the .wav
file and open the .mp3 (or whatever format you are converting to) file.
Further editing would then be done to the new file instead of the old .wav
file.

This is a guess because I've never done it. I just say "no" and do a
close/open manually.

I have always used goldwave.  Simply load the wave file into the editor;
then do a "save as". The "save as" dialog box has all the stuff you need.
One must set the file type and location as well as the format (bitrate,
etc.) before hitting the "save" button. A five hour file will take quite
some time to complete. Then goldwave will ask if you want to update the
sound in the editor to the new file. I always say "no" and close the
file. Then I open it again or go and try to play it in winamp. The new
file should be (maybe) ten percent of the size of the original file.

Hmm, maybe something got mixed up here. I thought Joe was asking about
converting a five-hour .wav file that he'd created from a minidisc. For
that purpose, WinLame would help, and the YouTube thing is another
matter which you've already resolved.
