Meta Data
Hello all, How can I learn about meta data as it relates to CD information on my computor. My wife has a mp3 player that uses the meta data, not the file and folder names to display content. I would like to be able to produce my own meta data for these Casettes I recorded to my PC and then sent to the player. I thought if I named the main folder as the artist, the subfolder as the album, and the files by the song name, that was all I had to do. Apparently metadata is something different. Re: Meta Data
These are called ID3 tags. One place where you can read up on them is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3#Editing_ID3_tags Usually your CD ripper will connect to a DB and prepopulate your ID3 tags for you. What CD ripper are you using? Also, media library applications, like Winamp and Windows Media Player will let you edit your ID3 tags and even make global changes. I know you can have your music stored in files and folders based on the ID3 tags, but I'm not sure you can go the other way, such as update your ID3 tags based on the folders and files where your music is stored. I know they can use this data to populate empty ID3 tags, so maybe you can do what you want with one of these applications. If you're using Windows, you can edit your ID3 tabs through Windows Explorer. Just use alt+enter to bring up the properties view and control+tab over to the tab that has your ID3 tags. In addition to Winamp and Windows Media Player, there are other applications you can use to make global changes to your ID3 tags. For example, in Ubuntu, I use a tool called EasyTag. Sound Forge Pro V10question
Hello. I'm blind, use JAWS 13 and Win7. thinking of buying and installing Sound Forge Pro V10 or V10c on my Win7 PC along with The Snowman JAWS screen reader scripts for SF. My main intent is to do Eq spectral matching of a whole bunch of mp3 songs I have acquired over time from diff sources so that the treble, mids and base sound same or at least similar. I've already normalized the volumes. Does Sound Forge Pro 10 come pre built with the eq spectral matching option in the list of 'processes'? Or will I need to buy a special plug in to do this? Hoping Pro 10 with its hefty price tag already is able to do Eq spectral matching and I don't have to plonk yet another $150 or so for a 3rd party eq spectral matching plug in such as 'Repli-Q' from 'Bias'. Thanks so much! in Prateek To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Can This Be Done?
Hello list: I'm probably going to be called stupid, unreasonable and maybe other things too! But I wonder if this can be done? Here's what happened: I recorded a show, using Tapin Radio this afternoon; what I didn't realized is that I inadvertently had the thing set to split recordings! That's not what I wanted! Consequently, I have over sixty files from this program; what I wanted was the whole show, complete from start to finish! Now is there a program that will allow me to accomplish taking these loose files and putting them together to make it sound like the show would sound from start to finish, and seamlessly? I guess there is the process of using Total Recorder and somehow trying to figure out the proper order of things! But that would be a mighty long process (the whole show is three hours long) but this is what I would like to be able to do: have that show (the whole 3-hour show) and have it play as one recording! Re: Can This Be Done?
I hate this. This is what the cloud based one called dar.fm does also. Even if it is a talk show you get around 15 minutes a file, but it seems that they put some of the previous one in the next file so you end up fastforwarding about 2 minutes. It did that last week with one show. - Original Message - From: Jim J cassie1...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2012 6:38 PM Subject: Re: Can This Be Done? Hi, Tom, Perhaps I'm missing something. Goldwave has a file merger feature which I have used successfully, though not with 60 odd files. If there are overlaps at file merge points, you'll have to take the time to edit them. Apparently your project is important to you, so I guess it will be worth the trouble. Re: Looking for mp3 direct cut
Because of the renewed interest in MP3 DirectCut, below are some notes I've made for myself and later expanded for the new user to get a start on using this helpful program. HT H, Jeff MP3 Direct Cut is a free direct mp3 editor, splitter, cutter and recorder. Download it from http://www.mpesch3.de Here are some notes for keyboard shortcuts for basic operation of this program: Play and Stop by using the SpaceBar. During playback, the F8 key will increase playback speed and F7 will decrease it. Rewind and fast forward using cursor left and right or page-up and page-down. The latter two keys move in larger increments than the first two. The number of frames each pair moves can be set via the configuration menu. How to mark beginning and end points of a selection for deletion, saving as a separte file, etc: While playback is stopped, Use the letter b to mark the beginning of a selection Use the letter n to mark the end of a selection The following commands use the numbers row above the letter keys, not the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard. These commands move by frame. One frame is roughly a 38th of a second: 1: Move the beginning mark of a selection one frame to the left 2: Move the beginning mark of a selection one frame to the right 3: Move the end mark of a selection one frame to the left 4: Move the end mark of a selection one frame to the right With the following keys, one can exactly hear, where the margins of a selection are: F5: Plays the two seconds before the beginning mark of a selection F6: Plays the first two seconds of a selection F7: Plays the last two seconds of a selection F8: Plays the two seconds after the end mark of a selection F9: Plays a portion of the file around the selection as if the selection had been deleted To remove a selection one can press the delete key. This does not touch the MP3 file. It just modifies an MP3DirectCut index. Therefore, cuts are made quickly. There are also menu options and shortcut keys to save a selection into a different file. For instance, Ctrl-E will save the selection with the opportunity to choose its own filename. and Ctrl-W will save the entire audio using the current name or edit it to something different. To split an MP3 file, which consists of a complete album, one can use the pause detection feature, which can be reached via the menu system. It will set a marker before each song. These markers are actually selections with a length of zero. To check the markers, one can go from one to the other with Control cursor right and Control cursor left. The file can then be split according to the markers. Or one can save a cue sheet file or an MP3 DirectCut project file. Both would contain the markers. With these marker files, one can easily find certain positions in an MP3 file. To go to a specific time position within the audio file, use Control-p. The displayed edit box is a bit odd. Don't delete the words in it, just modify the numbers for the current file position. One has to leave in place the apostrophes, which separate hours minutes and seconds. The program needs these apostrophes Then, there are the recording shortcuts. r: Opens the record dialog, in which sighted people can adjust the recording level p: Starts the recording, when the recording dialog is open s: Stops the recording. Jawbone Jambox info needed
I received a Jawbone Jambox for Christmas and really like the sound for its size. I am however having problems understanding how to use it, not because I think there is something wrong with the unit but rather because I do not understand how to operate it. I listened to Robert Carter's podcoast, but somehow my unit seems to operate differently although I have not attempted to update the firmware yet. Sometimes, when I put the two-position switch on the right end of the Jambox in the up position, the synthesizer tells me that the unit is in pairing mode, but it other times this announcement is not made when the switch is turned on. So please would someone briefly explain the function of each of its four buttons. Thanks. Don Roberts To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: Jawbone Jambox info needed
Hi, for the jambox, at the side of the unit, there is a 3-step toggle switch. at the far bottom is the off position. gently push it till you get a click. that's to turn the unit on. however, while turning on, if you constantly hold on the switch and push to the far top for some time, it will be in pairing mode. If you have already paird with your device, to avoid any confusion, just gently push the button to the on position and release it immediately so as not to toggle to pairing mode. As for the 3 rubbery buttons, the indent circular button is the mode button which allows you to answer calls/check battery status etc and the other 2 are volume controls. Hope it helps. -- Regards, Edwin. From: Donald L.
