Hi. I'm wondering what's a good program for separating tracks in an
album-wrapped file? Yes, there are q and log files accompanying said
flack file.

2012-02-28 Thread Jörgen Hansson

Hey don!
aha, Ok, well, I like the burning options there, and when I was looking at
the disc info, I could also see what type of drive I have, which was really
fantfirmware I have on the drive, smile.
then I thought, oh wow, how cool it is to see which firmware the drive has,
then you can search of the version of the firmware and see if there's an
update for it, smile.

George, I may be wrong since I have not made a serious attempt to rip
with this program. It is my understanding that although you can burn
many formats, there are no ripping capabilities other than the ability
to copy individual files. Stated another way, although you can copy
files individually, and you can create image files, you cannot just
issue one command and copy an entire CD. It certainly won't hurt my ego
to be wrong because I really like this program regardless of whether it
can rip.

Re: creating cd's

2012-02-28 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Wow, wasn't someone on this list just complaining on how rude the
INTERNET has become? I guess this is another case in point.

BTW, you can reach the list archive by going to:
http://www.mail-archive.com/pc-audio@pc-audio.org/maillist.html

I agree that people can refer to the list archive more often or even
just use Google to find things out on their own, but I think people can
be encouraged to do this without posting such a rude and pointless
message to the entire list. For example, Georgen could be new to the
list and wasn't aware of the fact that this has been discussed recently.
The location to the list archive could have been pointed out.
Unfortunately, not everyone keeps the introductory messages they get
when they subscribe to a list or can figure out where the list archive
is or how to search it on their own.

I hope Georgen and others aren't dissuaded from posting perfectly
legitimate questions to the list.

BTW, I did see the smile at the end of the message, but slapping 7
characters on at the end of a mean spirited message doesn't make it OK.

Ken, Burnaware free contains a disc utility specifically for this
purpose. In my opinion, it is the best and most accessible cd and DVD
ripping program I have seen.

Get it from:
http://www.burnaware.com .

I would like to know how much room is left on the cd I create. That is
what I have not found with winamp or windows meds media, unless they hid
it somewhere.

I have on my system cdex and exact audio copy, Can I use any of these to
do it?.

Thanks for your help.

Losing place in Songs list within the iTunes store

2012-02-28 Thread vrvaughan
All of a sudden I find that when I am in the iTunes store Song list and I make
a purchase, I am returned to the Home Page, rather than keeping the focus in
the Song list, so I can continue seeing what is available and buying some of
them. It is a really big pain to be forced to reinput the name of the artest
and go through all the steps to get back to the Song list, let alone going back
down it to find where I left off, so I can proceed to the next song choice.

Any help will be gratefully received! Vicky

Probably mscdex.
Obviously depends on experience, and if ripping is the only task you
want to perform given other tasks available in the ripping package. .

RE: Jawbone Jambox question

2012-02-28 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
While connected to a Bluetooth device, hold down the up and down volume
buttons. It will say live audio mode when the features engages. To disengage
it, repeat the process, hold down the up and down volume buttons and it will
say something like original. I think it will not work with a device plugged
into the wired connection.

The volume will noticeably drop when live audio mode is engaged. It does not
play so loudly as when in the original mode.

I just updated the Jambox firmware to the latest. I remember hearing
that the current firmware has some sort of wide stereo setting although
I do not recall the proper name for it. At any rate, I can't find
Robert Carter's podcast describing this feature and telling how to
invoke it. Does anyone on list know what to do to turn on this feature.
Also, how does one turn it off?

Thanks.

On BBC Radio 4 2012 02 28 this afternoon.

2012-02-28 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

Maybe not strictly an audio matter, nevertheless, important to any of us who
download audio hence I felt it to be on topic for this group.

 On today’s Radio 4 page:

16:00–16:30 Law in Action
Internet privacy and copyright
Joshua Rozenberg asks how laws on privacy and copyright should work in the
internet age.

The program page shows:

Joshua Rozenberg asks how laws on privacy and copyright should be adapted
for the global internet age. A senior lawyer at Google, William Patry,
explains why copyright should be radically reformed. And, with growing
concerns about the extent of information on users held by companies such as
Google+ and Facebook, how robust are the existing protections on privacy and
how will they be kept up to date?

Broadcasts
Tue 28 Feb 2012 16:00 BBC Radio 4.
Thu 1 Mar 2012 20:00 BBC Radio 4.

Listen link is:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01cjwv3

Program should be available to listen about three hours after first
broadcast and also as a podcast but not sure if non-UK residents may
download.

England.
