Hi all

A very strange problem that perhaps some of you clever people can help me
with.

I have an audio drama here that I am trying to listen to. With my plextalk
pocket. The file is 128 kbps and 44100 hz. If I transfer the files to the
pocket only the first 6 minutes of the file plays.

The other interesting thing is that the files play normally with windows
media player and MaPler but also foobar 2000 will only also play the first 6
minutes.

Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this issue?

Oh yes - I did check, the complete files transferred to the plextalk pocket.
The pocket also tells me that the file is 6 minutes long while it is
actually 54 minutes in length.

Best and affordable recorder for mono voices

2012-04-14 Thread Mario

Hi listers,

I'am Mario from Italy, a broadcaster that needs to record dry and mono
voices while outside of the studio.

I've listened to the neil podcasts on Blind Cool Tech, but In these
podcast he often records fx and stereo sources, and I notice that the
voice is a little bit noisy. Can you suggest me a good portable recorder
to record only my voice in mono?

Im thinking to buy an h2n, but is the mono mix feature useful for what I
want to do? and if one exists, can you suggest a microphone that is
valid for that use?

Thanks in advance.

I have used MX Skype Recorder, but had some difficulty to start and stop
recording unless I set it up to do it automatically. I have used Virtual
Audio Cable and it works fine, although as already stated, it is
complicated. I have also used Total Recorder and it has no problem with
 my
system, although to record from Skype I must set the device to Logitech
headset, it is not enough to simply follow instructions.

I think I wil try Virtual Audio Streaming too, for if it is simple to use
 it
may be a good alternative to Total Recorder, especially if I use Total
Recorder streaming capabilities to send my signal to a remote streaming
server and want to record the output with something other than Tapin
 Radio.

Finding Unsaved GoldWave Files

2012-04-14 Thread Danny Miles
Hi everyone. Would be really grateful if someone can please help me.

I've just finished recording an extremely long file, including content
to which I now have no access. After I stopped the recording my
laptop crashed and I had to turn it off, but I'm running the autosave
option so presume that the document should have saved somewhere.
However, my laptop doesn't seem to have a Temporary Files folder
like my old machine, and I can't work out where GoldWave would
automatically save unsaved files to. I've found one file called
.gvoice, but this file doesn't show up in GoldWave so I presume that
it's not the right one, and when I try to open it in My Computer it
says that I need to pick a programme to open it with but doesn't
suggest GoldWave as an option.

I really would like to get this file back if possible, so any help
will be much appreciated.

All the best, Danny

versions of GoldWave and, if so, how can I please make sure that this
happens so that I can access files after a necessary shutdown?

It is basically a virtual audio card. It allows you to basically do what
Stereo Mix could offer in XP, but perhaps more. This is especially
useful for Vista and later users, or XP users whose sound card does not
support Stereo Mix. Free trial with trial noise, whatever that is,

OK, apologies for the confusion but I've just found out that autosave
only works with bounded selections and mine are unbounded. However, I
know that on my old computer it used to save the files as .tmp files
when I stopped recording. Is this still possible with more recent
versions of GoldWave and, if so, how can I please make sure that this
happens so that I can access files after a necessary shutdown?

Thanks, Danny

Hi everyone. Would be really grateful if someone can please help me.

I've just finished recording an extremely long file, including content

laptop crashed and I had to turn it off, but I'm running the autosave
option so presume that the document should have saved somewhere.

All the best, Danny

can you give some examples in whitch the audio repeater would not needed

the thing that I didn't perticularly like was the delay when using the

It is basically a virtual audio card. It allows you to basically do
what Stereo Mix could offer in XP, but perhaps more. This is
especially useful for Vista and later users, or XP users whose sound
card does not support Stereo Mix. Free trial with trial noise,
whatever that is, added as part of the evaluation's limitations,
available at www.virtualaudiostreaming.net. The program is called
Virtual Audio Streaming.

FW: More about the JFW Foobar scripts from Andrew Hart.

2012-04-14 Thread David Truong
-Original Message-
Sent: Sunday, 15 April 2012 4:07 AM

Hi folks,

For those folks out there who use Foobar 2000 for listening to their
movies/tv/radio audio, I've written some JAWS scripts for this media player
that you may find useful. Among other things, they provide the ability to
set multiple time markers for an audio track you are playing, as well as
commands for having JAWS speak the elapsed, remaining and total time of an
audio track. Essentially, they provide Foobar 2000 with some of the
functionality available in the JAWS scripts for Winamp. The scripts are for
JAWS versions 12 and 13, but should also be compatible with JAWS 11 and
earlier versions at least as far back as 9. However, I can't make any
promises as I have only tested them on JAWS 12 and 13.
The scripts can be downloaded from

http://www.jfwscripts.cjb.net

For any Winap users checking out the scripts, please note that while many of
the JAWS commands are the same as in Winamp, there are some minor
differences in order to accomodate the Foobar UI.

Cheers and enjoy,
Andrew.

Thanks for the idea - I've already tried looking for both .tmp and GWV

One instance is you don't need to use the audio repeater if you wanted to
record directly from the vac cable. E.G. You set audio player to output to
vac cable, then in say total recorder you can choose to record from the vac
cable . As mentioned, it's not rocket science. The limit on how to use this
thing is your imagination. Also, the stuttering does not happen if you set
it up properly like adjusting buffers etc. There is a userguide on how to do
all this believe it or not. The Vac cable is essentially a virtual sound
card and in most audio based programs it is seen as just another sound
device.

happens so that I can access files after a necessary shutdown?

 Thanks, Danny

The audio repeat program is only one of the program in the Vac. The Vac
driver is the main thing you need to use to be honest.

cool.
perhaps I will give the audio repeater another look at, and tweak the
settings, thanks for the info, I will also check out the user guide.
thanks bunches.

One instance is you don't need to use the audio repeater if you wanted
to record directly from the vac cable. E.G. You set audio player to
output to vac cable, then in say total recorder you can choose to
record from the vac cable . As mentioned, it's not rocket science. The
limit on how to use this thing is your imagination. Also, the
stuttering does not happen if you set it up properly like adjusting
buffers etc. There is a userguide on how to do all this believe it or
not. The Vac cable is essentially a virtual sound card and in most
audio based programs it is seen as just another sound device.

in the podcast that some one posted they gave the impression that you
had to use the audio repeater.
can you give some examples in whitch the audio repeater would not
 needed to be used?
the thing that I didn't perticularly like was the delay when using the
repeater feature, other then that vac was a good program but would
like to know some examples in whitch I wouldn't have to use the audio
repeater.

 Hi mate,

Well I'd love to write one if I had the time. Also, I'd only be

Also, it helps when you are trying to understand VAC (Virtual Audio
Cable) to think in simple terms. Don't over complicate what the
program can do. Vac is just that, a software cable or cables with
 software
 outputs and inputs.

David, if it is so simple, would you be so kind as to write a guide
for those of us who don't understand the program? I've tried using
it, and yes, it's concepts seem simple but I've never figured the
 interface
 out.
I'd love to know how to use the thing, it looks damn useful.

Hi Brett. Small world!

Thanks for the idea - I've already tried looking for both .tmp and GWV
(which I think is how all untitled files begin) using the search
facility but nothing's shown up. This is quite a new laptop to me -
is it possible that a setting is in place to not show temporary files
and, if so, do you please possibly know how I might change it?

Many thanks, Danny

OK, apologies for the confusion but I've just found out that autosave
only works with bounded selections and mine are unbounded. However, I
know that on my old computer it used to save the files as .tmp files
when I stopped recording. Is this still possible with more recent
versions of GoldWave and, if so, how can I please make sure that this
happens so that I can access files after a necessary shutdown?

Thanks, Danny
