RE: Shout out to blind people to use the Harman Kardon HK 3490 or 3390 stereo receiver

2012-06-05 Thread Dujari, Prateek
yes you are if you have expectations of a high quality stereo receiver that is
100% accessible in every single feature for blind people. That with all due
respect is an unrealistic expectation in my opinion. If anyone on this list who
is blind and is waiting for such a 100% accessible high quality receiver to
arrive, you will be waiting for ever.

So you can either take advantage of my experience or keep awaiting for
something that is 100% accessible.

Hello all.

As promised after hooking up and setting up FM presets and all (with sighted
assistance) I'm pleased to say my HK 3490 is fully accessible with all
buttons being tactile. The less expensive lower power (120W/ch RMS VS
80W/ch rms) HK 3390 has identical controls on the front and so is also fully
accessible.

thanks

Prateek,

I appreciate the information you are giving us about these receivers. I guess
what I wonder is if you exclude setup procedures from what you consider
accessible, are these receivers all that unique? how
many did you check out?

RE: Shout out to blind people to use the Harman Kardon HK 3490 or 3390 stereo receiver

2012-06-05 Thread Dujari, Prateek
I checked out many. I am an audiophile and researched many 2 channel stereo
receivers. I did not bother with 5.1, 7.1 and 9.1 AV home theater receivers as
that is not what I care about. Just awesome 2 channel stereo receivers that
have awesome specs, reviews and power. Oh and that don't cost upwards of a
grand.
so yes I did check them out and the 3490 shines over all.

Check out one of the zero snake oil, zero rhetoric and qualitative mumbo jumbo
reviews, measurements and analysis at the below URL. It's a multi page review
and test so pl make sure you go through all the diff pages by hitting the next
button/links.

subsonic music streamer

2012-06-05 Thread Dave Bahr
Hi, has anyone had any success with the subsonic music streamer? It's
nice because it doesn't upload your music to a cloud or website, it just
takes it from your pc. But when I tried the thing with window-eyes, it
didn't really work. I'm guessing it's java or some other gui-based
application. But I have 4 tb of music and I'd rather not have to spend
months uploading it to stream it.

Subscription Streaming Music Services

2012-06-05 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Has anyone tried a Streaming Subscription Music Service such as Sportify
Premium etc and if so how have you found it?

Sportify is the one I'm mainly interested in as it operates in Australia.

I was a little disappointed to learn that the Squeezebox app for Sportify will
only work on Squeezebox Touch and Radio models, I only have a Squeezebox Boom!
but not to worry, interested to hear from others about this.

If you got Sportify working then on what devices did you get it working on?

Spodify is inaccessible to JAWS and apparently too limited to be appealing with
