Winamp FLAC Files?

2013-01-04 Thread Dana S. Leslie
It's been so long since I installed Winamp on a machine that never had an
earlier version of same that I've gotten confused. Does the latest version
have native FLAC support, or does one still need to install a separate
plug-in? If the latter, what is the name of the plug-in file?

Thank you.

Yup, FLAC support is native. Has been for a very long time as far as I know.

Re: anyone knows any solution to compress a 6 gig rar file to 2 gig?

2013-01-04 Thread JM Casey
You're posting this to the audio discussion list, so I assume the contents
of the rar archive is audio data. In that case, particularly if it's mp3 or
some similar compressed format you're dealing with, the only way to shrink
the size of the file is to re-encode the files to a lower bitrate. I
wouldn't recommend this for audio quality reasons, obviously. Archiving with
rar, zip or similar programmes works best for text and some
application/programme data, or maybe raw sound or picture stuff...you'll get
the smallest possible result there with maximum rar compression.
