Re: Audacity or GW

2013-06-19 Thread John Chilelli

Hi David,

I'm wondering if there is an off-line version of the latest Audacity
manual for the blind.

Thanks,

Blessings,

John

Hi Reed,
the free guide to audacity can be found here:

It's written specifically for Jaws users, but nearly all of it is also
applicable to users NVDA and Window-eyes.
There's also an audacity mailing list for blind users, and details of this are
given in the guide's introduction.

David.

Audacity is free and allows for multitracking with control over
individual tracks. It also has more extensive effects and better noise
reduction than Goldwave, but it is more complex than Goldwave and takes
longer to master. Goldwave has a reasonable price, but cannot
multitrack. The key strokes in Goldwave are easier to use. Both work
well with speech. There is a free guide on using Audacity with speech
which covers the main issues. Rich De Steno

Re: Using Gain In MP3 Direct Cut

2013-06-19 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello Jeff and list: Thanks a bunch; your instructions worked like a charm!
The file I had was one that was a You Tube thing that played at a very low
volume (I converted it to MP3, so then all I needed was to get that volume
up to where I didn't have to crank my computer up so much! Now..if only I
could find a way to save the video of that You Tube I have; then get the
volume up on that, it'd really be neat! But that may be asking for a bit
much! Thanks again for your help!
Tom Kaufman P.S. Is there any way (when using MP3 direct Cut) to monitor
what you're doing? If so, it would eliminate the guess work! The first
time I did it was actually just a little too loud!

Tom,

These are my steps for increasing or decreasing the gain throughout a
file.
First, I do Ctrl-A to select the entire file, which is the same as Rich
did with marking the beginning and end of the file.

Use Ctrl-G to bring up the Gain menu.
You are now on a scroll bar for setting the gain level for the start of
the file. By default you're on 32 of 90; I usually lower the number to
something like 28 or 25 to moderately increase the gain.
Tab to the next scroll bar which sets the gain for the end of the file.
Set the same number for this if you want an even increase across the
entire file.

Press O to close the gain menu.
HTH,
Jeff

It seems to be stuck on 99 ppercent; is this normal? The whole file is
at a low volume, so I don't know if just "normalization will help!

On my copy of Direct Cut, normalization is a few items below Gain in the
Edit menu. If you select the file as noted and go down to Normalize and
press enter, you should get a significant increase in volume.

Okay..I'm obviously missing something here! I thought I did see a
"normalization" thing, but don't see it now! I see numbers; I see
"flat button"..but what I don't see is where I'm supposed to change the
volume! Sorry, but need more explanation please!

With the file loaded, press the home key and then b to mark the
beginning. Press the end key and then n to mark the end. Go into the
Edit menu and try the default setting for the gain. Also, you may
want to just try normalizing, which often suffices.

Hello list: Hopefully someone can get me on the right track here: I

step-by-step instructions as to how to accomplish this! Using
Windows XP and Jaws 14. Thanks for any info or help you can impart!

Which one?

2013-06-19 Thread John Chilelli

Hi all,

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this question.

Which one is not only a better security package, but is less intrusive
with other software and especially with screen readers?

Esset Smart Security or,
Microsoft's free security system

I just got a new studio quality machine for internet radio work and I'm
hoping to get some feedback on this issue before I go on line.

Thank you,

John

Windows7 and Stereo mix?

2013-06-19 Thread Gerardo Corripio
HI listers: I'm wanting to better my podcasts, thus in windows7 is
there a way to have Stereo Mix appear in my RealTech HD Audio High
Definition soundcard? I go into Recording Devices and only see four
options: Bluetootth hands free Microphone, Internal Microphone which is
what it's as default, Microphone, and Rek/Playback which is unavailable.
Any ideas? Using an HP laptop with Windows7 32 bytes.

Olympus dm-620 manual

2013-06-19 Thread Tom

This message bounced so I am sending it again.

Hi Listers,

I went to google and looked for the dm-620 manual as it
doesn't appear to be on the cd that came with the device. I
downloaded the pdf document but when I tried to open it in
adobe reader, it just sits there and says alert, processing
document. Then nothing happens. I wonder where to find a
text version of the manual. In anticipation of any
suggestions, I thank you in advance.

Rusty
