Re: bluetooth problem: one for the books

2014-06-17 Thread covici
This is a characteristic of bluetooth, maybe airplay i.e. over your wifi
network would work better, but USB would do best, with the mixers these
days all having some kind of USB output. I don't know if there is a USB
Y-connector, but it would have to be powered, most likely.

 Hello, Everyone,

I have been involved in the audio field since about 1947!! (Yes, that's

I have a mixer which feeds a transmitter. The receiver is attached to a PA
system. This works as it should, but it's a bit cumbersome. I have a tiny
bluetooth transmitter and a receiver. My plan was to replace my present setup
 with the bluetooth gear.

The system works but not as expected. There's about a half second latency
between the transmitted signal and when it's received.

I substituted a Victor Stream for the mixer and the sound was fine. Well, I
 couldn't check about latency.

I found this out when talking into a mike and hearing the PA system coming
 back to me.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this rather bizarre situation.

this often happens to me when the cables are being moved around. When
the cables are still, I find no static. Be sure that the end of each
cable is not being moved during recording.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, I have no more suggestions. I
haven't encountered this problem before except when cables are bumped.
I keep a roll of painter's tape with me to prevent this from
happening. I have been able to create high quality recordings with my
Book Port that have been broadcast on radio.

2014-06-17 Thread Reed poynter
Hello,

You could do the following:

On the BP, start a recording by pushing the record button and leave it in
pause mode.
Place the BP into Monitor Output mode.
With a cable, connect the BP's headphone jack to the mike/line-in on your
computer.
You might have to adjust the settings for this input on your computer.
You might have to adjust the output volume on the BP.

This will allow you to use the BP's external mike as an external mike for
your computer.

further help with audacity, please?

2014-06-17 Thread Deb Trevino

Hi friends,

I am Dave Trevino's wife and have more Audacity questions:

1. Are there any tutorials that can take me from the very beginning? I have
used Studeo Recorder for editing but that's my only experience.

2. The file I want to work with is a conference call with superimposed (or
background) voices. I want to remove the background voices from the file.

3. I don't understand the parameters in the noise reduction feature as to DB
settings, etc. My attempt to use the NR resulted in lower volume of my total
file and limited success with removing the offending background speech.
Suggestions appreciated.

4. I'm trying to do all this without laying out any cash!

Thanks for help.

Re: further help with audacity, please?

2014-06-17 Thread Steve Jacobson
Deb,

I don't have much experience with Audacity but I do have some experience with
noise reduction. What it sounds as though is happening is that you may
have included too much in the sample of noise that you extracted when you
started with the noise reduction process. I think that was covered in a
previous note, but the first thing you have to do is to isolate a sample of the
noise you want to remove that does not include anything you want to keep.
If, for example, you got some of the voices in the noise sample that you want
to keep, Audacity or any other noise reduction software would include those
voices as part of the noise you wanted to remove.

However, noise reduction works best on constant noise. Therefore, it is also
possible that noise reduction techniques may not do a good job of getting rid
of background voices since they are not steady. It is still worth a try,
though, as noise reduction may help some.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
