there have been problems with accessibility in version 7. Don't know, if
these have been solved by now as I stay with the latest version 6.

Functionally, there is no significant difference in the view modes.  The 
basic mode presents the interface as thumbnails with limited tabs at the top 
(just Library, Guide, and Schedule).  The advanced view will show all the 
available tabs (Library, internet, Audio, History, Guide, and Schedule) as 
well as the Media Folder navigation on the left.
