Greetings,

Yes, I thought it might be something to do with stereo mix or what you hear,
don't know the sounds system yet in W7, strange though, during the actual
recording off the net stream, no problem with Jaws interfering. Jaws has
definitely been switched to the RealTech (onboard) system and I only hear it
through the internal RealTech (onboard) speakers.

Someone asked if these links could be passed on to the National Federation
of the Blind. I can send them to our R&D committee for its consideration.
However, when I reviewed the web site, it looks to me as though there are
some pretty solid goals and general product design decisions, but it does
not seem as though it is built on anything existing. Therefore, I don't
know that I see what is all that amazing at this point. Still, it is worth
watching.

Don't know what else to tell you, except that in my Dell's IDT sound card on
Windows 7, I can go to my System Tray, Speakers/Headphones, (usually the
last item there) and I can assign which soundcard I want Jaws and other
sounds to come through individually. Maybe that could help you?

Why not record in background then you don't have to worry about
interference from the voice, etc.

looking for wifi headphones

2014-12-30 Thread salamander22160
Hi

We are looking for recommendations on wifi headphones for
someone with hearing problems. My dad would like some
earphones that are wifi, they are light to wear, he wants to
use them on the tv, he has to have it really loud in order
to hear it, also he would like some that can filter out a
lot of the back ground sound, does anyone have any ideas
please? He specifically would like some like the old
stefascope design but I have not seen these in a long time.
Again they must be wifi and not cable as it would not be
practical, on amazon there are loads, it is hard to know
what to look for. Our neighbour has some, he plugs them into
the tv or connects them but it is still possible to hear the
tv even though the person is using headphones.

Re: looking for wifi headphones

2014-12-30 Thread Nick Giannak

Beware a few things.
First, WiFi headphones aren't actually WiFi. Wireless, yes. WiFi,
definitely not as they have no need to join a WiFi network. Secondly,
Sony wireless headphones have a 1 year parts warranty, but only ninety
days labor, and the labor is important as the switches in the headbands
tend to fail. Sony wireless headphones do not have a conventional power
switch, rather, they turn on when you place the headphones on your head,
and that switch goes bad. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
The best maker of wireless headphones, and honestly the only other
major manufacturer, is Sennheiser. Look for them.

And as I say they have specialised wireless headphones which is specialized
for hard of hearing persons.

The transmitter has a function which smooths out lound and soft sounds for
example. This is a bit detrimental to music quality but for a hard of
hearing person it may allow for the sound to be more intelligible. I
believe in the newer transmitters you can actually switch the circuit on and
off.

Something important to consider in your father's situation. And I do speak
with personal experience in this regard as I also have a hearing loss and
have had one for the last 30 years.
